As of today, the F-22 is the world's best air to air and air to ground fighter. It is also the world's most expensive. It is as much a world beater, if not more so, than the German Me-262 Schwalbe was in the closing days of WWII. Not enough of the Schwalbe's were built to make a difference in the skies over Europe and, at 186 copies (one crashed), not enough Raptors means they too won't make a difference in "the next one". Maybe we should change its name to the Bobby Gates F-22 Schwalbe.

ww2 was an era that had literally thousands of allied bombers and fighters going up against lesser but even more massive numbers of Luftwaffe fighters. It was a completely different strategy back then and aerial warfare.

Today's modern technology and fighters don't need to be in massive numbers to win. No military these days has thousands upon thousands of fighters. A dozen f-22 with some f-15 are more than capable of taking on any airforce in the world.

Well, the US is by far the world's most powerful Country in terms of armed forces, and i dont think people consider the amount of aircraft in storage with the US air force, as well as the ones being operated.

they didnt cancel the raptor. if they canceled it then they would have taken all of them and put them in the scrap yard in arizona...but they will stop production in 2011 when the order is complete

they didn't cancel it. All they did was put a hold on further future production. The DOD already said we currently have enough to fulfill the current mission.

We will build more in the future. it's just a matter of when.

the harrier was the first jet aircraft to vertically take off and land like a helicopter, I think everyone knows that. The harrier lacks a lot such has speed the aircraft can not go faster than the speed of sound, its none stealth. The f-35 can do more than just hovor straight, it can dip turn and fly sideways. Im not saying the harrier is bad, but its an old aircraft, and with help from the british lockheed has made a better solution and safer than the harrier.

Video does no justice for what this plane can do, the flat turns, standing on its tail and hovering, squaring off turns, tail slides, low speed handling and the overall feel of power you get from seeing it live and in person! Watch an F-16 do a demo then watch the F-22 do it's and there is no comparison at all, the feel of power and the maneuverabilty of the F-22 draws you in! You need a background for scale to see what the plane is doing in the air, you don't get that with a video at all.

Tangara- Where the F-15 can't engage enemy pilots that fly into their SAM coverage, an F-22 can follow in and pursue enemy fighters. It's virtually invisible to radar, and can carry a bombing package in addition to a missile package, giving it versatility. It's maneuverability is only rivaled by Russian prototypes that haven't seen action, and it's supercruise gives it quicker and greater combat range than other aircraft. F-22 FTW!!!
