  • NO NO NO..no NZ...this is totally Australian!!!

  • Hello! What a very nice song..its bring me sweet memories!

And the the man who is singing, has a great sexappeal...

  • I've always loved this song. It was a big hit in New Zealand. I've often figured it their best, although many of their other numbers are great.

  • cool stuff !!! love them

  • I was never a fan of LRB when they were on the charts. But as I matured I have grown to love their music, with their harmonies and meaningful lyrics. just great musicians. Thanks LRB

  • Remember this song well, It never got the true recognition it or the BAND deserved! Glen keep up the GREAT SOUND, GOD BLESS! for all the great memories of years gone but never forgotten

  • Nice fretless jazz played by the lefty bassist.

  • The Elvis reference could just as easily mean that he is residing elsewhere and guards his privacy well !

  • the line in the song about the man from memphis etc etc etc IS about HOWARD HUGHES AND NOT ABOUT ELVIS PRESLEY !!....so said by Glenn Shorrock who wrote and sang this song in an interveiw once on Australian TV back in the 70's!!......

  • go blackhawks!!!!!

  • 7 idiots eh!

  • i hate 99% of australian music, particularly rock and pop, but this song is just sooooooo insanely good. how is it possible to write such a good song?

  • Funny how not one of all the 'timeline' reactions seems to be aware of the wonderful catch phrase 'Elvis has left the building', which of course, was what they where referring to. :-)

  • No doubt about it...he oozed sex appeal back then.

  • one of the best bands you will ever see giving a live performance Have seen them at least 10 times and never disappointed Thier harmonys are perfect.

  • Wasn't Glenn sexy back then!

  • A great Aussie band, well loved everywhere. Saw them in concert in Christchurch in 1977 I think it was with Australian Crawl and Willie Nelson, they were awesome!

  • Hearing this song make me feel very proud to be Australian, as Las Vegas and too Elivs is just so far away and to call home like that the first time was to me strange, love the song the group arguably Australia's best export in rock/pop music.

  • This was performed right before Elvis s death?

  • what a voice. cheers for the post!

  • Coming home when the kids r at school ....hhmmmm...nother bub on the way ..me thinks ...!!

  • God, I Love this song!

  • He won't actually be home on the Monday.

  • Played on Radio 10 Gold-dutch station

  • @regentv980 haha yesss radio 10 gold , love that station. listen to it all day

  • Ahhhhh the seventies!

  • It's about them being in Las Vegas, after a Elvis concert, they where hoping to see him but he had already left.

  • This is one of Little River Band's darker songs...but very nice. Thanks for posting!

  • @CaptNemo100 In what way is it dark?

  • nice music for driving on the road just listen and enyoi

  • this live version is better than the studio release, no strings. I wonder if this version was ever release live?

  • "They told me that he (Elvis) has gone, never leaving a trace", I didn't know the Elvis conspiracy theories date back as soon as 1977 (?)

  • @August1977 i think this song dates back to november 1977... it would be incredible if the band wrote the lyrics a year before Elvis died.

  • @nzoz1977 Yes that would be but Elvis died in August 1977

  • @August1977 i think this song was written and recorded prior to the death of Elvis - I could be wrong. None the less, if it had been written and recorded prior to August 1977, then either LRB had incredible foresite or its just plain coincidence...

  • @nzoz1977

You know what I think is a co-incidence is the fact that this guy called August1977 is talking about something that happened in August 1977.

Anyway, thanks for uploading this. Absolutely stunning band. I used to be drum tech for Coxy, although that was a long time after any of this happened.

  • @nzoz1977 Of course it was. It might have been released later in the year but it was definitely written earlier than August.

  • @nzoz1977 If you go to google news archive search and search for "Diamantina Cocktail", you can see the album (with this song) came out in May or June 1977. Graeham Goble's website says May 1977. So they are making a comment about Elvis being a recluse rather than him dying.

  • @nzoz1977 On the remastered Cd i have it has a copyright of 1976- 1977 EMI Australia,, so thats when the ALBUM was released but ,, yeah who knows when this song was written i will further check the online archives ,, very interesting as i was only 14-15 at the time,,,

  • @nzoz1977 yeah he died august 16th 1977

  • @August1977 Maybe he had just left town?...and the rest of the line is just a filler?? How about that for a conspiracy?

  • I met Glenn a couple of times when he was in the Twilights and Axiom. he is such a nice guy.

  • Thanks for sharing............

  • Wow. I always try to find these songs from in our car. Usally we only here these awesome songs when we go to disneyland. :P

  • I love this song! And I'm not even old enough to even know them ! They are amazing !

  • LRB's music is absolutely timeless

  • My favourite LRB song....that first line always got to me.....Havent heard this song in twenty five years or more.....and that first line still got to me......amazing stuff!...

  • This song send memories flooding back of my childhood. Climbing mango trees in Brisbane, catching the train from Canberra to Sydney with my mum, riding our skateboards in the street and heading our in the mornings with my brothers on our push bikes, being gone all day with our friends.....and not coming home until tea time.

So glad I was a kid with freedom, growing up in the 70's.

I remember telling my mum one day I'd call her from the Las Vegas Hilton.....and I did......some 30 odd years later!

  • @lilly2kool : And for me, it brings back childhood memories from up here in Norway! Back then, bands got nowhere if they couldn't actually PLAY (well, except for punk bands..!). No fancy studio trickery, no automatic pitch correction on the vocals, etc.

  • what a superb song from a legendary band.no matter the line up or front man great songwriting and superb harmony's

  • is it me or the singer really short?

  • yeh good post Kiwi ))

  • Classy group........classy song. Thanks for putting this on.

  • I am blown apart that anyone could compare ANYTHING LRB related to Britney! What a tosser!

  • What is he doing nowadays? He was cool, great band

  • Makes me cry

  • Oh man...the memories that go along with this song for me. This one's for Tracy.

  • One of my favorite LRB songs.

  • I have always loved this song i play guitar and finally got the chords, great song to play...

  • how do u get a sound like that today well u dont. that at 2:08 ends at 2:34 is some great picking and sound .wish they would let him cut loose for a lil longer tho.

  • There is a Man at Work that looks Just Like the Lead Singer, and I have Slobbered after Him for 8 years now!... (Is it getting Warm in here?)...Whew! :O

  • @evalll666 You should think only posative thoughts about the music and try to repress your sexual urges. I suggest having a cold shower or booking a flight to Belfast to have your urges dealt with.........

  • timeless

  • The bassist is trying to look like Jaco..LOL

  • Great tune, love the bass in this one!!!!

Such a cool hip band!!! They really knew

how to write songs back them!!!

  • i love the way he moves. those hips...

    bet he was fun....

  • Despite the fact the LRB's music is full of cliches I have to admit they made terrific music. I'd guess this is because of Glenn Shorrock's voice. Somehow it really hits home.

  • They were the last great exponents of west coast rock even though they came from Victoria in Australia. Poco were never this good, hell I think they were better than the Eagles. Have you heard The man in black? Makes me sick it is so good.

  • @bilbob7624 your have no idea what your talking about....this band is tight,,,cliches lol...no way

  • @glazeman2... your definitely right. they're a tight band for sure and have a terrific sound. i'm just referring to the cliches in the writing. :-D

  • still a great song.

  • that's it you hit the nail on the head cheers mate

  • What an incredible band...and the songs they wrote..good stuff!!!

  • True that! They just don't make 'em like that anymore. *sweet nostalgic sigh* (p.s. Saw them in concert in Vegas (my home town) in '80 - 'incredible' is exactly the right word.)

  • It doesn't get any better than this, folks.

  • half the songs out these days sample older songs, gotta spice up their pre-fab gunk somehow.

  • yep because the new musicians can't make music like this anymore nowadays....

  • catlvr214.........Sigh...we try...but the newbies are just too cool. They think they know it all.

  • I just love this song. I always turn up the radio when it's on.

  • Reminds me of someone many years ago. wholoved the Little River Band. Many memories all good.!!! Thanks for sharing this video. Great.

  • Music today is missing the imagination of the cool guitar hooks, piano riffs, and the wonders of the tag and fade out. I single no particular genre out, or artist, however, I wish the guys like these, who really knew what they were doing would share the trade secrets with the newbies...before those secrets die with them...just my opinion..don't mean to be starting anything...well, on the other hand -maybe that wouldn't be a bad thing, necessarily, eh?? thanks for posting this song!

  • the lead singer of this song is hot wonder if still hot these days gotta love his voice

  • Picture him with some wrinkles and a lot less hair. Do a search for Birtles,Shorrock&Goble or just Glen Shorrock.

  • They should reform this band...??? They are all doing nothing anyway...... and I like them.....!!!!

  • I agree, I wish they could. They played a few dates in 2003 as Birtles, Shorrock & Goble. Even made a great DVD. Then the current aholes that basically STOLE the band's name & r touring as LRB, & they kept B,S&G from using the name Little RIver Band in any referance, so they just gave up. NEVER ORIGINAL add-on band members Wayne Nelson & Steve Houdson r the THIEFS that legally STOLE their music & band name. It's a shame. B,S&G should tour. They could still be a big hit imo without the band name.

  • You know at one time the law would protect the honest and original, now it protects the people smart enough to register a copywrite. I call them "Half Wit Thieves"......

  • Yeah, they should reunite and call themselves The Real River Band.

  • How about "Littler River Band". Less members so "littler" geddit?

  • I agree it is a disgrace...you should not be able to perform other peoples songs in concert without permission...that would phaaaark em. They had the gall to ask the original members if they could release a DVD...with the original songs, answer was predictable

  • sounds like the same shit with Skynyrd ...all those original members just sitting around while the scabs are on tour with the name...disgraceful if you ask me..it really sucks....would love to see LRB in the original lineup....

  • as I have said live thear ammazing hit after hit. songs you know the words to and sound so clear you cant help but enjoy.

  • im always left in a good mood after listening to these guys:), remind me of my dad

  • I bet that jacket is worth alot of money today. I think it's made of kid.

  • why does everyone get so mean about their opinions? this is a great band for sure...but for whatever reason, they've parted ways..i still enjoy them and would see whatever version today...i'm no kid either...fyi

  • I agree with this guy fanostyx. No wonder why the shitty music of today is always negative and almost never about women and love any more. You kids are pathetic.

  • hey!!! i'm a gal!!!!

  • Oh, hey Karen, sorry about that. :)

  • This song never played in the U.S. when it was first done. I learned of it when my college roomy came back from living in Sydney for 2 years with this song on an album. I fell in love with it immediately. And it's my favorite song by my all-time favorite band. Man, these guys could really "bring" it. They had a very powerful, confident sound, and they came across that way. Glenn has a very unique voice that no one can truly duplicate. That's why without him, it's not really LRB.

  • What??? What are you talking about? I was 17 when Dimantia Cocktail (maybe their best album ever) was sold out and listened to this on 8-track until the 8-track worn out. This while you were crapping in your diapers. What makes you young punks so narrowminded? LRB is nothing now, in my day they were up and over. You are simply discovering what music was in the 70s and compared to now think you have made a great discovery. Check your hubris at the door please...

  • Seems that you are attacking for no real justification. Being old is not a license to be a jerk.

  • 166 views on the studio version and I am about 40 of those and 69294 on the Stage,Now that is real sad inded, what is it with you humans?

  • Probably the second best song they ever had (next to Help is on its way) I've seeen the band numerous times and they are sure the finest combo Australia has ever produced. I still say Farnham was a better vocalist than Shorrrock. I have all their albums and No reins is easily the best althought the 1975 Live allbum is perfect too (and I do mean perfect)

  • aww thankyou for sharing.. ohhh i so love LRB, but only with Glenn Shorrock -he is just beaut & sounds fook'n briiliant:):):):):)......... john farnham is a fookwit thats an embarrassment to oz , how to kill a successful band-just add farnham grrrrrrrrr :(:(:(:(:(

  • Reminds me of college!

  • and im gonna miss college :(

  • me two, me 3, and me 4 two the four !!"

  • Diamantina Cocktail is one of my all time favorite albums. This is great tune from the album.

  • One of their best songs, and a great LP too! Glenn Shorrock wrote this, and it should have been a hit!

  • Has a bit of Joe Cocker, especially with that vibrato in the end. Is he still active? The other singer - name escapes me - had a hit in Holland circa '87 with You're the voice.

  • Glenn Shorrock did some gigs in late 2000 that I know of. John or Johnny Farnham was the other singer of LRB.

  • I know you can tell how desperate they were to break into the U.S. market biut I could never figure out why the Eagles could sell squillions and yet LRB barely got noticed. BSG had more talent in their pinkys than the Poco, the Eagles and all those other wannabes put together.

  • And it's called american entertainment mate.??????

    Australian Band MATE

  • This is PURE MUSIC..Ethereal.....And for me I have done that...Calling from the Las Vegas Hilton at an emotional time.. The memories are great...Peace...

  • I cried the first time I heard this....because I stayed at the Hilton before I got married, then had to leave for Navy duty. The music, as always by this underrated group, is superb.

  • Logie Bear, i love you mate, i hear you and the new Mrs are doing well, see you in a couple weeks cuzz!

  • Fantastic video!

  • I love LRB.

  • Brilliant -- this is music that hits the heart and can make a grown person weep. I agree with the comment below about Spears -- that is not music or singing -- that is only noise.

  • The bassist, in his choice of instrument and attire, is doing his best Jaco Pastorius impression.

  • This is even better live!

  • Guys, brittany spears can not sing professionally at all. She acts and sings like a 13 yr old. She doesn't have even a microscopic amount of the talent that 90% of the bands out of the 60's and 70's had and still have. That's a fact. All she can do pretty much is strut her hot body around on stage and that's about it. She can't sing on a highly trained, professional level at all. She knows it too.

  • that hot body? man, she had a hot body in 1999, but I think that so called 'hot' body is starting to become a challenge in time.

  • That's all true, but what does that have to do with LRB....

  • Here Here!

  • not bad to say it is live, play it on Radio 10gold,do you listen, get it online

  • And it's called american entertainment mate.

People like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton are the product of america's superficial society.

Not to be a dick but that's how I feel after visiting America 3 times and living in the Netherlands for 18 yrs.

Btw.. I'm 18 years old and I love this song :)

Don't think it's just the previous generation who knows good music when they hear it.

This live version is inferior to the studio version though imho.

  • got some growin' to do boy!

  • On what aspect?

Not physical XD.. I'm friggin 1.97m (Michael Jordan height.. can't be bothered to calculate to imperial system).

  • I disagree. I have heard LRB live and I can tell you they are much better live than in the studio. Get a hold of the live album they did at the Adelaide Festival in 1975. Trust me. You won't regret it.

  • @smh32 actually brittney CAN sing--she's just over exposed in the media.

  • Classic, ra8m with the eagles

  • hey Ottoisalive..what do you care if "we" get stuck up in the past, or so you thought...it's not getting stuck,it's admiring their music... tsk!! you're the one to be pitied...and face it, none of the bands now could level up to the kind of music there was in the past..and im a young teen by the way so cant call me stuck in the past..cuz im not from the past...haha...^_^...

  • The song is "Home On Monday", not "Home On A Monday".

  • great music

  • Mmmm .. yummy. The song's not too shabby either ;-) My introduction to LRB was this album. I picked a good one, eh? Used to crank it endlessly. Good times, thanks for the memories!

  • One of their best, their songs were a refreshing change in the late 70's disco music era.

  • the original band and the early days is what i want to hear and see, just great

  • your so cute!!

  • Hey LRB fans, just wanted to add this little tidbit of info. Back in 1977 or '78 I saw LRB with Foreigner and an opening act called "Cheap Trick"! LRB was awesome as expected, but the best part was after the show my friend and I waited out back for the band to come out , well out walks Glenn Shorrock and he stopped and chatted with us for a few minutes, then signed his autograph for us. Great guy!

  • LRB rocks.

  • This song was written by Glenn Shorrock and Beeb Birtles. These two wrote lots of the LRB songs

  • Anyone know who wrote this song? Great hooks and seems ahead of it's time..

  • Okay, Farnham was cute but Sharrock just

oozed sex appeal back then, didnt he?

  • this song inspired me to learn guitar.....the beautiful solo...

  • love it!

  • Very nice song

  • I love this music, i'm a huge fan of LRB, and i'm only 14 years old!

  • I was a fan when I was 10 (in 1977). But good to see that the music has its fans among the young. Proof that great music never dies.

  • Thanks for all the additional comments...I had forgotten just how poignant this song actually is for me..."I was hoping to catch a glimpse of the Man From Memphis. They told me that he had gone, never leaving a trace." Elvis had just died a week before I moved to Las Vegas, August 1977, and it was still the buzz. "I could never get involved with those one-armed bandits." I can relate to that, too ;-) Great to see this video performance.

  • Oh ,How sweet.

The last time I was in Vegas,Which I was 4 times a week, I would call my wife and kids in UTAH unless I had one of them with me and tell her it was Grisim calling,And often I would call her from the roller coaster,Beat that. Great old song though hey. I too am regreatablly from New Zealand

  • When in Las Vegas on business I walked into the lobby Las Vegas Hilton and rang my Girlfriend who was home in New Zealand, and the first thing I said was " Can you guess where I am calling from"

  • Oh ,How sweet.

The last time I was in Vegas,Which I was 4 times a week, I would call my wife and kids in UTAH unless I had one of them with me and tell her it was Grisim calling,And often I would call her from the roller coaster,Beat that. Great old song though hey.

  • Teemee21 - such a great idea! Love this song, but you've just added an amazing amount of depth with the visual you experienced! Who said that romance was dead! Thanks!

  • love that so much

  • Oh ,How sweet.

The last time I was in Vegas,Which I was 4 times a week, I would call my wife and kids in UTAH unless I had one of them with me and tell her it was Grisim calling,And often I would call her from the roller coaster,Beat that. Great old song though hey.

  • When this song first came out, I had just moved to Las Vegas, 1977, living in an apartment, I could see the Las Vegas Hilton from the balcony of my apt. This song is one of LRB faves...especially poignant for me

  • Oh ,How sweet.

The last time I was in Vegas,Which I was 4 times a week, I would call my wife and kids in UTAH unless I had one of them with me and tell her it was Grisim calling,And often I would call her from the roller coaster,Beat that. Great old song though hey.

  • some of this sounds kinda like Crosby Stills & Nash, or the band YES.

  • I've been a fan of LRB for awhile, but I've never dug into their deeper songs (Stuff that doesn't get airplay on the radio at times). I must say, this song after hearing it is truly another gem! Thank you for sharing this vid!

Glenn Shorrock = One hell of a singer!

  • You are a Legend for posting this clip mate, i used to drink 24 beers and listen to this track with the boys, then ring the miss's and sing this down the phone.

  • That sounds like a blast!!!

  • You don't find songs like this anymore.IMO rock music doesn't have the songwriters that they used to have or if they do....then they don't write anymore because they know their stuff won't sell to young people today. It's a shame.

  • This is real Music - its so much better than the shit they have today

  • That's because you don't have the songwriters today that you had 30 years ago IMO.

  • Best Band in the Bloody World

  • If you like this song, I suggets you give a listen to Glenn's 2007 remake of it on his myspace at slash glennshorrockfan. It is great, veryt emotional.

  • I HATE remakes!!! Chances are it is inferior to the original-I've NEVER seen it fail, yet!

  • Great song...I hadn't heard this song in at least 20 years. I used to hear it on the radio when you used to be able to actually hear songs like that on the air. Music like the LRB put out doesn't exists anymore, and if it does you damn sure won't hear it anywhere.

  • As I always say...Australia has not had any band come close to LRB the music we produce now is mostly CRAP!!!!

  • Yeah, I can't warm to much of the new stuff - I wouldn't spit the word 'crap' as a description to all today's music, but I really cannot warm to it at all. However, I don't believe the buck stopped with LRB.

  • This song refers to "The man from Memphis" Elvis Presley, it reflects Glens regret of never meeting his idol, "the Hilton-Las Vegas" "he was gone without a trace" -- The King was dead, 1977 the year the song was released.

  • Thank You. Thank You. Through my tears, Thanks again.

  • absolutely a classic song!
