You've got to have nerves of steel for this. It looked like the runway (what little there is) had already gone before it stopped. Wow. As always massive respect to Navy pilots.
He landed on about 1/4 the length of a city block rocking back and forth, side to side in near total darkness. Total Respect!!! Jolly Roger (VF 103) for life!!!!
what are you guys using to stay on center and on glide slope? i would imagine i would be looking at that the whole time .the thing is how do you see the deck pitching and is there certain conditions that the capt. will not let you fly in? like if the deck is pitching to much do they still have flight ops?i mean within limits of course.
There are lights on the deck that move up and turn red, or down and turn red, if you are too low or high. They center and turn green when you are on the glide slope. Ever hear the phrase, "Call the ball"? That's what that means. The ball is the lights, and the pilot either sees it, or relies on the landing personnel to call it for him.
dude i would hate it if i had to land at night because all you can see is the lights at the top of the bridge and you cant see the flight deck until your about to land
What is with all of the lights? when I flew off the Forrestal in A-4C's the deck was a lot darker, with only the ball and the centerline lights. Thanks for the vid brings back memories GULP!
You too can have this much fun and be paid almost as much as a truck driver, be away from home 6 months at a time and get to hang out with 5,000 guys and 250 women.
Why don't they just light up the entire ship so the pilots could see better?

I don't know but I've been told. Navy wings are made of gold. I'm don't know but it's been said. Air Force wings were made of lead.

if the rope snaps under the aircraft, would you even notice it before you¨re in the water, if it is at night?
