@ivanovivan11 Not if you follow the directions I give you in my video. You should never burn your clutch out. Yes, during slow/low speed and turns, you are applying light pressure on your rear "controlling" brake.
@ivanovivan11 That's a bit of a concern for me too. Being a truck driver, you are always mindful of not "riding the clutch" so as not to burn it out. It's the same with riding the brake. You would have to think that these big bikes ,doing all these demonstrations, would wear out clutches, and brake disc pads at a hell of a rate of knots. It's a small price to pay for safe riding,i agree, but its something i have wondered about. I'll happily replace brake pads if I end up riding like these people.
@steiny47 Most motorcycles are designed with a WET clutch, unlike automobiles that have DRY clutches. Some motorcycles, BMW and Ducati's come to mind, they have the DRY clutch. All that means is they breeze their bikes out after every couple minutes of riding, you should never burn out a clutch or rear brake pads while riding at slow speeds. Learn how to master the techniques and you will never burn a clutch out. I go over this in my book and videos. Hope this helps.
@ivanovivan11 - I believe more mc-riders could do this show that is shown here, but the risk of turn over is stopping most of us. if you are flat with a Harley like this it will cost you. give me some weeks and 5 electraglides then I will do the same.
I did the same, but that is many years ago., - today I cant afford to practise like this.
@kukalie83 I totally agree with that statement. A couple of little blunders i made wouldn't have happened had i watched Jerry's youtubes earlier. "Target fixation" and "Head and eyes" come straight to mind.I've just bough RLAP V and Deals Gap DVD's ...best money i ever spent. I'll be ordering the book soon. I cant believe how much I've learned from these short, informative video clips.
Just a reminder... Even if you have ALMOST perfected these techniques on one machine does NOT mean you have the same level of performance with a different machine.
If you ride more than one type of motorcycle, please practice on both!
What I can do on my Ultra Classic is wayyyyy different from what I can do on my Goldwing.
Now if I could just get used to all the parts that scrape BEFORE my boards on the Harley, i'll be okay.
Jerry and Donna, no matter how many times I watch you and your fine team demonstrate your impressive motorcycle maneuvers I continue to always be amazed that you can do so. Over the years I have enjoyed watching and re-watching your excellent demos in person and also on your DVDs. I not dropped a bike since I made, what are likely to be the very best motorcycling purchases Ive ever made—your DVDs. I wish I had them at the start of my 17 motorcycles, 54 years ago. Very impressed! I am a new rider and just purchased a 93 Goldwing. I know it is a big bike and have alot of respect for it. Plan to take it slow and get plenty of practice. Ordered the video today. Looking forward to it!
I've put well over 1,000 students thru the exact course you see on my video. Nine out of ten can perform every maneuver you see us doing in this video within 3 to 4 hours. Granted, they're not as smooth as us, that takes about 8 hours of practice to get the smoothness down. Practice is the key.
reason why I am short 5'1 height since I passed the road test in MSF class with interpreters sign langauge for the deaf. Becuase I am deaf biker. I don't have any motorcycle yet!! I know those heavyweight cruiser too big for me. ::::sigh::::
Wow, that is amazing. I have the DVD's, and have used a lot of the techniques, but I guess this means I need to get to a parking lot and really work all their drills...lol
do you burn your clutch more rapidly if you use the "friction zone" while practicing?
do you have to press (tap) on the rear brake for the entire time while "slow racing"?

I have the video, and have been doing some practicing, but it doesn't look like I'll get it down in four hours (maybe 144 hrs.).

Yes, that is two little, itty, bitty, girls riding two Harley Davidson Eglides. They are incredible riders, that would be Donna and Marianne!!

Well, Marianne's my little sister and she's been a great rider for a long time!
