when this song first came out , i had just lost my sister in 92 and this song spoke directly to me, and still does, my sister was 22years old when she died ,i was twenty three at the time ,r.i.p. karen i will always love you , and i miss you
Best female singer/songwriter of all time. The way the music industry treated her was criminal. How she doesn't get more mainstream airplay is totally beyond me.
Best female singer/songwriter of all time. The way the music industry (Atlantic I'm looking at you!) treated her was just criminal. Her work after this period just got better and better. How she gets ignored by the radio stations is a real mystery to me. Any one of her songs is radio friendly and I'm positive that given the chance to hear her the rest of the world in general would love her as much as I do.
wxrt used to play indie songs , that's where i first heard this song, like over 15 years ago. early 90's had alot of very good female folksy stuff like alanis, jewel, juliana, lisa loeb... now theres lady gaga and shikira,rihana... great to look at...to listen to...not so much. i think the 2008 posting of this song is even better
i was trying to find electric version, but this sounds cool too, love her voice.i used to jam the electric version driving a 18-wheeler in the western united states
Early `90`s were great. It was one of those rare times where the tyranny of the music industry gave people who wrote good songs a break for once, Now we are back to the same old same old where those who ever can act like the biggest retard like Kanye West is given the biggest light.
Amen- I lisened to WHFS- in DC throughout the '90s, and the tunes they played- the diversity of good stuff- was tremendous. Then it just faded- no more original good quality new orginal ideas. The station even went out of business. I was surprised when I first heard that station- because I came from NYC and the radio was terrible. I'm kind of sad for those days, music today is awful.
Yeah, and people who are 10 years older than you say the same thing about hair bands.
Kanye hustled in a city practically absent from the hip-hop industry's radar for years before getting any airplay and has put out some of the most inspirational and substantive music on the current pop scene.
Have fun listening to your grunge oldies station, you fossil
Nah, Juliana's the only girl in a family of boys. She wrote the song from a fantasy she had. But parts of the song like watching the Del Fuegos and the Violent Femmes are autobiographical.
For my sister, who I wish I had known sooner. Who has brought love and light into my life that only she can. I love my sister, and I'm so glad I have her in this life. Thanks mum.
look at that hair, i love her...

It's so sad. A great song like this was overshadowed in a year like 1993. It would be the song of the year in 2011.

damn, I didn't realize how much she sounded like the album singing live. She has better pitch than some of my other 90's female alt-rock heroes.
