@boru25 To be fair though it's a way over gimmick even if it is a little goofy, getting over is the be all and end all at the end of the day. He got it over so therefore it becomes a good gimmick. Remember Al Snow? He was a straggling talent for years then they give him a manequin dummy head and he's a star. The problem is when you have gimmicks like the pirate where it's just completely playing a character and has no real life personality in it whatsoever and will never sell a ticket.
@reviewality Shawn Stasiak did come in allowed to use the name Shawn but towards the end of his second run in WWF(E) they began attaching the name and gimmick of "Planet" Stasiak to him and using Shawn a bit less. Also, in his first run in the company he was known as "Meat".
Paul Burchill was put against Helms in several matches which he lost but he showed how well he could move. I don't kow why they let him go. I liked him!
@buggie198 That’s a question that only Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon-Levesque, or the other storyline writers can answer. Joe Hennig wasn’t the only one they did this to. There was also Mike Rotunda’s son Windham (Husky Harris). Now sure why either. Why have the announcers publicly tell everyone their lineage, yet give them different names?
Though if I remember correctly, in Hennig’s case the story line was that “McGillicutty” was his mother’s maiden name, and he uses it in her honor.
@NMbarrassment In early 2010, Helms and Chris Jericho were arrested and cited for public intoxication after getting into a fight in a taxi cab. They were both released after posting bail, but Helms was released by the WWE about a month later.
Funny thing is Shawn Michaels (which is my real name Sean though) isn't even his name. John Higgenbotham - or some sort of rot. hell, I'd have changed it too. Hard to be a heartbreaker with a name nobody can pronounce. Wonder if I should sue . . . Hmmm.
suprised when jim cornette was in the wwf he didnt have to change his first name in case it pissed off good old jim ross.this man talks that much sense and doesnt kiss any arse.good old jc.

Does Jim Cornette actually think that they're "athletes"? They're not athletes. They're performers. It is not an athletic competition. If they were just athletes they wouldn't need the gimmicks.
@therealzerostar you must be a 9 year old who thinks wrestling is real. that's the only way you can dispute my comment. and i'm the idiot? that's funny.
@danteras23 im 26 and i am very aware that wrestling is scripted in what way does that dispute the fact they are athletes i think you just dont get wrestling.
Hearing this makes me wonder: why the flyin' fuck did talented wrestlers like James Gibson, Paul London, Nigel McGuinness, CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, Low Ki, and others join WWE?
WWE dosen't give a shit about pro wrestling. All they care about is idiotic gimmicks so they can put logos, symbols, slogans and catchphrases on T-shirts, coffee mugs, and other stupid shit to little kids and adult-but-still-kids.
WWE does not deserve talented wrestlers, and neither does TNA. ROH is all that's left.
@CMY187 they did it for the money, and i don't mean that in the cynical sense. The indie circuit is very small time. The guys don't get paid much running the regional circuits. Making it to a big name company like TNA or WWE is like hitting executive status. Also there's a lot they have to deal with. Most companies don't even provide health coverage, even though injuries are something you can bank on. WWE also has a lighter schedule than many of the indie circuits for the better paycheck.
I know everyone loves Cornette, and he is a great talent with a great mind, but he seems to be an extremely bitter person who likes to blames others for all of his problems. Just my opinion.
I don't understand how they couldn't make Paul Burchill and Charlie Haas work. They startred out in the right direction by putting him with Regal. Then for some reason they tanked it.
Something so easy. you have Burchill & Regal, put them with Dave Taylor (who they brought in and tanked him too) or Dave Finlay & let them be the foreign ass kickers who gang up on people for no reason and have them clash with Team Angle (which included Charlie Haas). So fuckin simple.
@7Rayo13 As much as they embarrassed Burchill, Regal looked even worse for being made to job to a pirate constantly and have to wear a dress. Finlay is just another example of someone with athletic and technical ability being given a disastrous gimmick. They probably said, "He's Irish, so let's pair him with a leprechaun who eats Lucky Charms."
it's actually nobody can be called shane we have had shawn stasiak but never another shane excepty shane mcmahon you know kinda like highlander there can only be one
Agreed with Charlie Haas. I don't know what WWE was thinking when they made him imitate everyone near the end and making him look foolish. He was one of the guys you wish would get some good exposure but was then pushed to obscurity

I agree with Cornette. R Truth in WWE is ridiculous as a delusional and crazy freak! He isn't allowed to be himself and allowed to get over.

@therealzerostar Wrestlers are not athletes. They're performers. Pro wrestling is not an athletic competition. Wrestlers are more like stuntmen.

I watched Burchill a lot when he wrestled in the UK and he can do a lot of moves that cruiserweights do. He would be good in the TNA X division.
