@boru25 To be fair though it's a way over gimmick even if it is a little goofy, getting over is the be all and end all at the end of the day. He got it over so therefore it becomes a good gimmick. Remember Al Snow? He was a straggling talent for years then they give him a manequin dummy head and he's a star. The problem is when you have gimmicks like the pirate where it's just completely playing a character and has no real life personality in it whatsoever and will never sell a ticket.

@reviewality Shawn Stasiak did come in allowed to use the name Shawn but towards the end of his second run in WWF(E) they began attaching the name and gimmick of "Planet" Stasiak to him and using Shawn a bit less. Also, in his first run in the company he was known as "Meat".

@buggie198 That’s a question that only Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon-Levesque, or the other storyline writers can answer. Joe Hennig wasn’t the only one they did this to. There was also Mike Rotunda’s son Windham (Husky Harris). Now sure why either. Why have the announcers publicly tell everyone their lineage, yet give them different names?

Though if I remember correctly, in Hennig’s case the story line was that “McGillicutty” was his mother’s maiden name, and he uses it in her honor.

WWE does not deserve talented wrestlers, and neither does TNA. ROH is all that's left.

@CMY187 they did it for the money, and i don't mean that in the cynical sense. The indie circuit is very small time. The guys don't get paid much running the regional circuits. Making it to a big name company like TNA or WWE is like hitting executive status. Also there's a lot they have to deal with. Most companies don't even provide health coverage, even though injuries are something you can bank on. WWE also has a lighter schedule than many of the indie circuits for the better paycheck.

I don't understand how they couldn't make Paul Burchill and Charlie Haas work. They startred out in the right direction by putting him with Regal. Then for some reason they tanked it.

Something so easy. you have Burchill & Regal, put them with Dave Taylor (who they brought in and tanked him too) or Dave Finlay & let them be the foreign ass kickers who gang up on people for no reason and have them clash with Team Angle (which included Charlie Haas). So fuckin simple.

@7Rayo13 As much as they embarrassed Burchill, Regal looked even worse for being made to job to a pirate constantly and have to wear a dress. Finlay is just another example of someone with athletic and technical ability being given a disastrous gimmick. They probably said, "He's Irish, so let's pair him with a leprechaun who eats Lucky Charms."

Agreed with Charlie Haas. I don't know what WWE was thinking when they made him imitate everyone near the end and making him look foolish. He was one of the guys you wish would get some good exposure but was then pushed to obscurity
