@GameIndustryAnalyst Life must be hard for you then... if you're ever wondering how you can improve yourself take a look at my videos. My brain works as it should and I'd be willing to give lessons in speaking.
Honestly though, decent video and fairly informative, but you'd do a lot better if you added a little bit of humour to your points. I understand this wasn't the scope of the video, but the pure angry serious tone just comes across as a pure rage-fest and comes across as whiney. Anger + humor = entertaining and subscribers.
Software/movie Piracy really isn't a recent thing... You'd have known this simply by doing a little bit more research lol. Back in the 90s it was possible to walk into stores and purchase illegal copies of VHS tapes, the same way you can buy pirated DVDs at the South Pacific mall. No, you weren't downloading the VHS for free over the dial-up connection most people had back then, but you were still illegally obtaining the VHS. Also, parity = measurement of odd/even as in divisible by 2, not par.
jihad means daily struggle... many think it means holy struggle which leads them to think of war. The media stresses that jihad does not mean war but a struggle they are not dead wrong ... and fox news should not count as a viable source of news >.>
@GameIndustryAnalyst That's entirely subjective -- $1.29 for a song that took months to write, rehearse, record, track, mix, produce, and distribute seems like a bargain. Buying a CD with ~10 songs for less than $30 seems like a steal, though you mentioned downloading, so I assume you're not interested in holding a physical copy. So, it's even less from any of the services I just listed. Truthfully? The Zune Marketplace seems the most 'bang-for-your-buck', but I haven't done much research.
@TheGreaterSin Well thanks for your suggestions and input, and let's just hope Microsoft gets off its lazy ass and do the music industry some justice. I'm just surprised that Sony is nowhere to be found in the music download market.
Well, it apparently was "legal" to download music from LimeWire onto a Zune player for free...because "people share their own recordings of the songs onto the LimeWire" or something ("Zune" is an MP3 player like an iPod but different brand, and "LimeWire" was the program you could download music for free). For as much as people seem to only care about money, it's surprising to find things like downloading music for "free" (I think)... AGAIN, funny "subscribe request" performance in the end! LOL
dude your argument makes no sense.. i mean, does Apple pay no royalty fees and all that to the artists, their record company, etc? furthermore, why is emusic all of a sudden discounted because of its monthly fee!? you have to pay for stuff dude! unless artists or record companies put their shit out for free, you have to PAY! unless you're a pirate, then go right ahead and steal all the music out there. Well, time to finish your video :)
@mikoush I docked eMusic off not only because I think it's stupid to force people pay a monthly fee for music when I want to download singles at my convenience, also because it's a totally random service. Where's Sony's music store? Sony is a music giant, and it doesn't have its own music store? I bet they can offer a better price than Apple and eMusic. I mean, having a monthly fee is cool if you're a hardcore music buyer, but I don't think many people are like that.
@GameIndustryAnalyst Okay i get it, you're interested in paying for just a few songs, that's why the monthly fee bothers you. I didn't understand before :)
Like the editing, clearly you've been doing this for awhile. A few points though:
There ARE alternative music-download-services online. Napster (one of the 'original' music piracy services) went legal and charges a fee. As well, I believe you can download from Grooveshark.
Also, Microsoft DOES have its own music distribution service, the Zune Marketplace. *Pre-emptive defense of the Zune as an amazing mp3 player that suffered from a lack of marketing*
@TheGreaterSin Thanks, and true, I haven't looked too much into Zune, however I think it's pathetic that Microsoft would distribute a piece of technology and not market it. Also thanks for sending me names of music download services, but all I'm looking for is the most ethical way to download music; a way where I won't get ripped off, and where I won't see some goody-two-shoes wagging his/her finger at me.
Hey Mario it's Jim. Great video and I'm gonna check out the rest. One thing to add to your itunes rant is not only are they the only ones, but how much money does the actual artist make from those sales?
Itunes finds a song and auto posts it without the author's permission, then automatically send a FRACTION of a cent per sale to the artist. Many musicians have gone to itunes and had their songs pulled because itunes is basically leaching off them making 98.9 cents a song
mario good video.. only one thing is wrong, they did jack up the price in the us too its now $1.29 for a song.. other than that good stuff and you got my sub
Secondly a problem everyone else has with apple is merely the cost we have to pay toward a corporation that has everything, its simple that company expanded due to our taxes and addiction to consumer funding. Things you own end up owning you, that's how it is for the corporation government we nurtured and raised.
throughout the whole time all i could was laugh. i got to say you did make some really on the spot points for modern pirating and making a smooth move on corporations for the media/gaming industry. Hell you made some ethical dilemmas to question about, which even got me thinking as well.
as for the pirating issue, sure you're right its un-ethical however, does anyone truly care about the consequences for pirating?
Nice Video Mario I agree that apple is practically running the market for online music purchasing, but the thing is with any company that practically controls a market no matter what they will always charge a high price which is bullshit and more companies need to compete to make the prices cheaper...but i sadly don't think it will make people stop pirating.
@RoccoOnPiano True, but at least it'll bring more justice to the economy, and us ethical users won't be forced to participate in the lose-lose scenario Apple provides.
