Totally awesome band with a powerhouse of a lineup...Wetton's vocals are so commanding and lots of emotion, control and forceful...up high and down low Wetton could get it with impeccable bass.....Jobson...totally awesome...bozio....well awesome as well.........Too bad they only could put together a few albums...but hey it was a good run....saw them with Tull........amazing...outshone tull.........thanks for the posting of this vid...
Wow, I see that they run out of wood in Britain, so they had to make this violin out of not eco friendly plastic. Yo, Brits, you don't have enough wood for making instruments? Not a problem, ask Canada for a few logs, they don't care about natural environment here, they cut trees left and right like they were mad, and if you protest against it, they lock you up in jail. By the way, where is Allan?
@joergen100 My comment was meant as a teaser It's beautiful, now very famous instrument The whole story regarding Eddie Jobson's clear violin is available on Eddie Jobson Forum The shortcut there, enter clear violin in google images then click on Eddie's photo, it takes you right there Ampeg makes guitars like that As for not using timber by New Zealanders to build warships, I guess you skipped history lesson when they were talking about Waitangi war canoe :-)
saw them open for jethro tull , then the next thing you know, eddie's playing with tull ! one of the best 3 pc. bands i've ever seen. i saw bozio with zappa 1976 boston...
@tapkae I'm a drummer, I don't think I'd call Terry's kit here a jazz kit. Though I guess if you're comparing it to the ridiculously monstrous (and this one is no 4 piece) kits he played in the 80, maybe you could call it a jazz kit. UK definitely changed gears here after Bruford and Holdsworth left. More poppy. Terry's great but as a drummer Bruford is just so phenominal everyone (even Bozzio) pales in comparison.
@dockaiser They did on the prior album. Alan Holdsworth played with them and Bill Bruford was on drums instead of Terry here. That album is fantastic as well.
So I know that they just overlaid the studio version of the song, but it sounds different (like no double-tracking on JW's voice). Was this a mono sound source or stereo mixed down to mono?
The transfer from 35mm to DVD is in mono, however, I would have expected the soundtrack on the original film to be in stereo so perhaps the conversion equipment wasn't able to read it as a stereo source when the conversion was made.
@tomnook111 Well, this clip was intended to be a TV promo, yeah? If so, I don't believe stereo sound came to television until the 80's, so maybe it was mixed to mono originally on film from the album, rather than build a mono from scratch. Not like it makes the song or band any less awesome. :P
I jumped from In the Dead of Night to this thinking it would be the same...and wow. What happened between these two songs? I've been listening to Allan Holdsworth for awhile but only recently discovered UK. In the Dead of Night is fantastic...but what the hell is this?
@TheLifeEnigma Holdsworth was not part of this album. He was only on the first one. They didnt have a guitarist on this one, only bass, keys and drums.
@lidesnowi Holdsworth and Bruford were actually fired from the band, and this iwas the result: boring, fiddling pop songs. Good video to mark the decline of an outstanding prog rock band towards Asia (yuk!).
Love the massive amounts of gear in this clip. It seems that Bozzio has always had a big kit and Eddie's rig probably takes three articulated trucks to deliver. Love it!
I kinda hate it when people compare these guys to ELP of call them ELP 'wannabes'. Is RUSH(seen 9 times) and ELP wannabe??? Ha! and yet it is a three piece power trio. But so was Triumph etc etc. I prefer to just see each band for what THEY are and do...not try to put another name on them. Kinda silly and would never end as so many bands borrow from others. Like the guy asking who is the better drummer " Bosio- Bruford or Palmer". I like them all for different songs or reasons. Works for me!
Good quality vid. As for who's better than who; Jeez, they're all top of the pile dudes. I always thought the best UK would have been John, Alan, Bill, and Eddie. Not that I don't think Terry is one of the best pounders in the business; Just that Bill's style fit the nucleus better on the first exploration.
was amazed to run across Eddie Jobson At NAMM demoing a keyboard and later that eveing at a restuarant at the next table- He will be at nearfest this year
Of the hundreds of shows I've seen, this version of UK at the old Palladium (and even older Academy of Music) on 14th street was the loudest show I've ever heard. They put out a lot of sound for a trio!
i actually auditioned for eddie jobson right around this period. percy jones set it up for me, but not long afterwards, jobson decided not to do the solo project he was auditioning me for.
Yeah... this line-up really wanted to go in a pop direction. Wetton got what he wanted with Asia (which was lame IMO).
Bozzio killed with Missing Persons.... Color in Your Life is such a great album with production by Chic's Bernard Edwards... very cool album, though did not fair well. I was lucky to catch one of the last Missing Person shows in LA and they were really good (despite the fact that it was obvious they were ready to implode on a personal level).
Rare shows in 1986. I think MP only had a few on the west coast. I was ready to buy tickets for any east coast show that never materialized. Was not aware of the internal bad issues & the fact they owed 700K to capital for over production costs on Color in your life. Not sure why they gambled again go with a dance type of record with BE, why not go get Ken Scott who made there only hit record, Sping Session M & go back to basics.
Chances of a reunion are slim to none. As for the first version of U.K., Bill Bruford has retired. As for the second version, John Wetton and Eddie Jobson parted ways, citing aesthetic differences.
Eddie Jobson's new group, UKZ, performs UK music live, and is also recording new material. That's every bit as good, if not better, than a reformation!
The reunion took place few days ago, but it was an one-off event, and probably never again (3 gigs in Poland: Krakow, Warsaw, Bydgoszcz). Lots of clips on youtube already :)
Killer footage. It would be nice to see U.K. reform although I doubt Allan Holdsworth would ever have anything to do with it. This line-up could be a possibility (?)
Yeah but man when I saw this line up at the Paladium in NYC in '79 and they played 'Carrying No Cross', 'The Only Thing She Needs', Bozzio tore it up..it was an amazing show
can't believe there is going to be a reunion tour this year!

@TosiekDegutis :-) When you put a violin through a PA it doesn't actually matter that much anyway. It look cool though, don't you think?
We are also ready to supply timber from NZ if that is the main problem, never used our timber on warship like the Europeans:-)
