  • having reach 10th degree put her in a league of her own ;D, even though she is weak now, she can still teach. im glad that there are still teachers with knowledge from the old times. i hope she can pass all her wisdom to another person so they can keep the art alive forever~

  • definitely, this storie made me cry, all the human been in this world its more important than be a man or woman; it doesnt matter if you are a man or a woman, the most important thing is the wisdom, what man has the wisdom of this beautiful woman, who give the life for his students? Keiko Fukuda O-SENSEI, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO HAVE THIS TITLE... O-SENSEI, GOD AND BUDA BLESS YOU!!! I HOPE TO MEET YOU ONE DAY!!!

  • Shes an inspiration

  • Osu

  • So uhm, just a question, but if only 4 people have ever earned the degree she has, who judges that she is worthy? And how? She appears to be barely mobile. I mean, I can get up and run around, so I automatically beat her. Does she have some kind of mind power or something where she can throw people around with her thoughts like a Jedi?

  • @thecyberpunk Moron ,

  • @Svoudrey I'd say that you sir are the moron if you're fooled by this tripe.

  • @thecyberpunk its not about her physical ability, its about how much she knows and how good she teaches, a math teacher is not named best teacher for having good muscles and be able to carry 500 pounds its about how good he/she teaches the subject and how much he/she really knows. in this case since she is 95 years old and still teaches Judo instead of using it for money gain like ab karate then she is more worthy than any man.

  • @darksantos1 Except that she's nothing like a math teacher. She literally is teaching people how to throw people around a floor mat, and she literally can't even stand on her own. If an able bodied person actually assailed her (and no, I don't want that to happen) she would be utterly helpless. Martial arts is a joke, it's the only "sport" where you can be awarded for no competitive ability at all, and the only "philosophy" where throwing some one on the ground is considered a debate tactic.

  • @thecyberpunk well this i can see why its a sport, but in kung fu they use wepons knives, and all that but i agree on you comment. That is why he has younger people teaching the younger ones. The young take on the young and if some one able bodied person assailed her then some one close by would quickly stop him since assaulting a senior is pathetic, ofcourse dont think all old people are like this, there is a 114 year old practitioner of kung fu moving such as well as any 30 year old men.

  • @darksantos1 I really doubt there is a 114 year old in the condition of 30 year old. Show me some evidence of this.

  • @thecyberpunk ok sure let me send you some videos that are here in youtube right now ill pm you but for every one else copy and paste this next to youtube(dot) com : /watch?v=4PeZsHQaFQE

  • @darksantos1 Sorry, I don't buy it, just because the guy or the video claims that this guy is 117 years old doesn't mean he actually is. I can find no evidence on the veified listings of the world's oldest people, and if he was actually that old he would be the world's oldest living person right now. The oldest verified person alive right now is 115 and she is from the United States. I was able to find pictures of this guy smoking cigarettes and "Curing" people of headaches.

  • /watch?v=WOFV4XBjTLc&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PLD3964F4CBBF7A79F

This video shows some 70 year old doing crazy stuff see

  • @darksantos1 This video shows claims that these people are in their 70's I don't see any hard evidence to that effect.

  • now i said that can move as well as any 30 year old man, i never said that is stronger so dont try this against me.

  • @thecyberpunk "Martial arts is a joke." Is that because you've never practice? And there is competitive ability. Go troll somewhere else.

  • @thecyberpunk Uh, all this is irrelevant. It doesn't matter what you THINK martial arts is - it's the fact that has excelled in the field and has been treated unfairly because of gender and tradition. The "astute" observation that you make of this woman, at 98-years-old, not being able to manhandle younger, more physically fit people does not invalidate the achievements that she SHOULD have been recognized for EARLIER.

  • @thecyberpunk "Martial arts is a joke, it's the only "sport" where you can be awarded for no competitive ability at all..." LMFAO. You are seriously a few notches above the threshold of being a legal vegetable aren't you?

  • @Cyberia24 Having a tough time in gym class kiddo?

  • @thecyberpunk Go troll somewhere else, kid.

  • @ChefJezzaSTL How about you stop pumping your father in the shower and make me.

  • @thecyberpunk Cool story bro. Try harder.

  • @ChefJezzaSTL No probs brodude.

  • @thecyberpunk I'm sure you'll achieve the rank of keyboard warrior champion someday. :)

  • @ChefJezzaSTL Well if that title has the same standards as Judo, all I'd have to do is get really old and lose the ability to type.

  • @thecyberpunk Sorry, I think Keyboard Warrior is a whole other martial art. :)

  • @ChefJezzaSTL At least equally effective in battle though.

  • @thecyberpunk Nah, unlikely. Depends on the practitioner.

  • @ChefJezzaSTL Correct me if I'm wrong but Judo is a defensive martial art, while the keyboard arrior is purely verbal. So long as the Keyboard Warrior sticks to his style, and the Judo Master sticks to hers, the best result either side could hope for in a physical confrontation is a stalemate.

  • @thecyberpunk Then the Keyboard Warrior would have no chance once the confrontation turns physical. And the judoka can go offensive, tbh.

  • @ChefJezzaSTL It's more likely the Judo girl would go in first since the keyboard warrior is adept at slicing and dicing the much weaker ego of the Judo girl and avoiding physicality completely. With Judo girl caught off balance and operating out of her element the keyboard warrior has only to quickly operate his high tech smart phone, summoning a pair of officers with high powered tasers to subdue the flailing Judo girl. The entire engagement is heavily balanced in my favor I'm afraid.

  • @ChefJezzaSTL Offensive breath maybe.

  • @thecyberpunk 1. The belt was SUPPOSED to be given to her when she was younger, as explained in the video, but she was rejected multiple times simply on the basis of being a woman. So no, they are not awarding this because she's old, but that she deserves recognition for the times in which she was snubbed.

  • @thecyberpunk 2. Going by your logic, since I can hire an assassin to kill a competent fighter, I should be able to get a compentent ranking in the martial art that said fighter specializes in.

  • @Cyberia24 What are you babbling about? You want to be an assassin or something?

  • It is well acknowledged that Oriental people, in particular Japanese, live the longest with limited health complications. Diet is one thing (they eat a lot of fish for protein & fat, rice for carbs and limit the sweets & alchohol) but the other thing is Judo. It's PRETTY DAMN IMPRESSIVE a women of this age does Judo-a martial art where people chicken out from getting thrown/where those in their 40's complain about their joints/how they hate to fall. It made her stronger. Is she CHUCK NORRIS' MOM?

  • Great film. Great woman.

  • The fact she was 5th dan under Kano and is his last remaining student....shouldn't she be higher in the Kodokan than anyone else period?

  • It really doesn't seem fair that the Kodokan refused to promote her for so long. Not only is she the last living student of Sensei Kano the founder of Judo and the Kodokan, she promoted Judo in the US for almost 60 years. She is a true master who sacrificed everything for the sport and continues to do it to this day. She has to be promoted to 10th dan. She's an inspiration of what a Judoka really is.

  • @reladjoe What do you mean she had to "Sacrifice" everything? She got to do what she loved for a living and be constantly honored for it. What did she sacrifice exactly? Did she turn down a promising career in brain surgery in order to teach people to roll around on floor mats together?

  • I am inspired.

  • I can't believe she was 38 in 1951, she looks like a girl in that footage. When she cries, oh dear, it makes me baww. What a fine person.

  • Previous message was NOT expressing ANY disdain over belt choice, by the by. Just expressing tradition.

    I'm 250 lbs and a semi-trained judoka. I still wouldn't get within this woman's range. She'd bend me like a pretzel.

  • > 10th degree black belt

    > Wearing red belt

IIRC 10th is supposed to be a double-sized white belt.

  • Yes. 1000 times yes.

  • Black mamba needs a new teacher for part II.

  • dont mess with this 98 woman or else you will be ass-kicked that woman :O

  • @caheen141 I'm willing to bet that about the only thing she can kick the ass of at this point is a bowl of warm congee. I mean, come, she's in a damn wheel chair.

  • "In judo you need strength of body, mind and soul. I don't mean beauty in the external sense.A compassionate soul, is inner beauty.I believe this is true beauty. The gentleness is derived from the Japanese character "ju" which means flexibility, softness. In Kanos Kodokan book there is an illustration where a very large man is standing, and a small woman wearing a kimono is pushing his chest with her index finger, and the man collapses." This is the essence of gentleness, the "ju" of judo.-

  • Love it...

  • This is quite an epic story. I feel huge awe.

  • This woman... Epic strength for what she has overcame in those years.. She is simply a GREAT role model for never giving up on anything. She achieved her result in what? probably like 70 years of judo training... I'm not a judo wrestler or anything like that, I jumped on this video randomly and I feel surprised for how this lady has the power of her mind, soul and body. Great, absolutely GREAT, lesson to remind over here, NEVER BACK DOWN

  • It is refreshing to think of martial arts as an art form when your used to watching modern MMA.

  • Wait... what? I wanted to see her get awarded the final dan. Work in progress? When is the rest? I want to see it!

  • @oxonameless she has been! at 98 years of age. The first woman and one of only four living people to have been awarded this, and one of only 16 throughout history. wow.

  • So, when defending ones self, Judo teaches you how to do a synchronized swan dance with your opponent? I just don't see the defense in this "art".

  • @TONYTHETlGER Here, let me help you with that. Type "judo" into the search bar.

  • @JakeFilms Where is this so called "search bar" located.. You will have to be more specific!

  • I agree people who post about "excellence" in still is about higher level degrees does not know anything about martial arts. Higher ranked degrees are very much associated with commitment to teaching and leading others. Sadly too many places are i the "belt" system and claim to be 30 year old 8th degree back belts. Sad to see but it i a "money tool by some.

Part of the higher belts (for serious school) is about something "inner" that people from outside martial arts can not understand.

  • Congratulations Master.

    Thank you

  • Great video.....

  • And you thought this can only happen in anime... This inspire me greatly.

  • I can't believe I'm fucking whining about how hard my school is right now I'm such a whiny cunt

  • She'd be a cool nan.

  • @calmhie Who cares? She is a cool woman.

  • You are a True Warrior. Sensei Keiko Fukuda, thank You.

  • This lady represents something great in life.. the mere fact that she is full of "life" is wonderful..Growing old can be a scary thing for some people,,she is a true in every sense of the word...

  • To set a goal... and achieve it. Such patience and mastery - and here I am complaining about 3 min noodles...

  • Thumbs up if Yahoo brought you here!!!

  • I've got so much respect for this woman! She truly deserves the 10dan. She stayed 5dan for 30years and she choosed judo over her marriage. Besides who gives judolessons in their 90s? So much respect for her. I think that i will BUY the movie instead of downloading it!

  • She don't need 9th Dan. She's above it!

  • Yoda?

  • I clicked this expecting to see a 98 year old woman kicking some ass. I leave this page utterly disappointed :(

  • amazing!

  • I am a BJJ guy as well, the art isn't important. This woman gave her life to Judo, that is something anyone can appreciate.

  • Awesome, an inspiration to all! おめでとうございます!

  • This is really inspiring, never give up on your dreams, no matter how far off they may be

  • Talk about discipline, dedication, respect, and honor. I may not be practicing Judo at all but I completely bow to her. She has all my respect.

  • Sweet

  • Comment removed

  • @hippie6996 I dont think they gave her rank because it was her birthday. LOL. Dumb ass. She's dedicated her life to Judo and has given back to the art what the art has given her. Of course she deserves it. If you think otherwise then your extremely narrow minded and know nothing about giving back.

  • Beautiful!

  • I was born on April 12th too~

I really admire this lady, she worked really hard and deserved it! I'm inspired!

  • Infinite respect for this lady! What an achievement!

  • Yodina :)

  • すごい

    ただ凄いの一言

    日本の宝

  • Most of us fat Americans won't even get to live pass 60,hahahhahaha... This is an incredible feat and she is 98 yrs old, that is a gift of the gods... FUCK YOU HATERS!!!!

  • How can you not respect this amazing woman??? She is a hero and and inspiration to me and many others alike... She's 98 freaking yrs old and still teaching judo and kicking butt.. You gotta give respect and gratitude like that... Seeing something like this makes me have hope in humanity!!!

  • To everyone who's saying they could kick and 98 year old woman's ass...you do realise you're boasting about kicking a NINETY-EIGHT YEAR OLD's (forget the fact that she's a woman) ass. Just THINK for a minute. Doesn't that sound absolutely pathetic? Boasting on beating the elderly? Such arrogance.

That aside...this amazing, beautiful woman absolutely awes me. She's the sort of role model that should be circulating the news more often. Less Kardashian. Less Snooki. More Keiko Fukuda, a true hero.

  • @HickeryHickery We live in a country full of degenerate one hit liners who tries to say anything remotely funny.. Fucking trolls are swarming the internet waves... I'd say fuck them all!!!

  • @HickeryHickery i dont think its arrogance, its just fact. it is also a fact that the kardashians and jersey shore will always be more popular than stories such as keiko fukuda's, sorry

  • @dontbegaix What's fact? That they could beat her up? I mean, yea they probably could what with her being 98 and everything (though I think it's safe to say they'd have some trouble), but wouldn't you agree that it's an arrogant and ignorant thing to boast on beating up old people?

And unfortunately, you're right. This society as a whole is much more interested in staring at talentless naked people and probably always will be. That's why I said people like Fukuda SHOULD be circulated more. xD

  • @HickeryHickery i dont think its arrogant or ignorant. if i heard a guy say "you see that old woman over there? i could totally beat her up" then id be like okay whatever, i think everybody already knew that.

society will choose what is popular. very rarely can something be forced down society's collective throat. if its the right time and place, then stories like this one will circulate naturally. but trying to spread them artificially wont make them catch on

  • @HickeryHickery ...Just THINK for a minute... With what? I think their brains are 100% (at least) busy with eating, watching tv, shi... and maybe having sex... And do you realy think they can focus for one minute?

  • @HickeryHickery

Youtube post of the fucking year right here. Thumbs up.

  • Reading through the comments on here...some people are just pathetic. How can you genuinely disrespect this woman? She worked hard to achieve her goal. And in doing so, she has opened a pathway for more female Judo practitioners to achieve those same high levels.

  • @AnimatedMusician People just want to say the most outrageous shit to just fuel the fire... We are a bunch of idiotic sarcastic lonely assess.... People know better but they just don't want to and are hating their own lives.... This woman is my hero and gave me hope in pursuing my dreams.... I love this woman...

  • i don't understand why bruno smith is wearing medals.... O.o

  • when she cried, i teared up a bit :(

  • she is so cute!

  • Strong in the force, she is!

  • There has been quite a few women who have learned such because they know liberals are a threat and will steal from them. And that's not a off the wall remark either.Just as any street gang or drug gang member that supports Obummer. One such lady was on Dragnet back in the late '60's because some liberals thought that a local bank should "share the wealth" with them regradless of who it actually belonged to.

  • Now here lies the question? Who would win in a fight, this kind old lady who has achieved the highest honor. Or a U.S Navy seal?

  • @EmperorOfMars A Navy seal would have respect for this kind elderly woman. What many people don't understand is that the purpose of Judo and many other martial arts aren't just about fighting, winning or loosing. These arts were designed to promote physical and moral education, in short: to progress along the way of perfecting one's life. The fighting component is only the 1st step in learning the arts, then comes the healing component, then the spiritual one...

  • @begoodenblues I disagee. The martial arts were designed to help you win at combat. People have attempted to add the moral aspect to them, but that's besides the point. Martial art means art of war. Not art of morality. If you want to add that to a MA fine, but it is not the main purpose. People don't win fights or wars for that matter based on how moral they are. They win based on how skilled they are, how hard they train, plus thier heart and toughness/courage.

  • @EmperorOfMars The question is who could teach who to do Judo? The answer is: this lady has forgotten more about Judo (litterally) than those Navy seals know. She could actually train Navy Seals. They could teach her nothing about Judo.

  • @SCROGY nope, who can kick each others ass the best. That's what I want to know

  • Nice video of a tremendous woman. Thanks for sharing!

  • Extremely respect for this woman

  • i wonder what she was thinking about when she started crying...probably some long lost love she gave up for judo, i wonder if he's still alive also...

  • She could probably kick my ass.

  • Lol @ 2:48 Keiko Fukuda can shoot fire!

  • She's awesome! She's a ninja!

  • This woman is a saint!!!

  • Makoto's mom!

  • She somehow makes me think of Yoda :) She really is inspiring.

  • Amazing woman...amazing story...I would like to see this more of this video...

@docfilmcat you captured the right amount of emotion...it shows her sacrifices as well as her achievements...without a sacrifice then what do one really achieve?

  • What an awesome goal in life! I wish i had something like this to work hard for. It's truly moving!

  • 何事にも一生懸命に一筋に頑張るって素晴らしい事ですね!女子初柔道十段おめでとうございます!本当に凄い事だと思います!Thank you for making, posting and sharing your documentary video clips with us! Congratulations on 10th Dan of Judo! Very Impressive and Amazing! Sincerely, Kazu:-)

  • amazing, it great to see a woman fight hard to surpass men and claim her right

  • Folks, she is a true warrior. It's tragic that not everyone can see that.

  • Other then her marvelous feat of dedication, I'm amazed her hair is still black without a shred of grey at 98!

  • wow that's dedication, 30 years of being stuck in 5th degree and not allowed to advance yet she kept on going.

  • @jtk159 Many many people work 30 years at their jobs without any kind of raise and they keep on going too. Give me a break. There is a huge difference between hard labor and a hobby.

  • @dahoss65 Ok? but I didn't mention anything about people working at their job for 30 years so why say that?

  • Wow, I'm Astonished at Sensei Fukuda and her ways of life...

She's inspired me to continue my Martial Art training and I would attack a bear just I can meet her in person!

  • mad respect for her.

  • @billymadison88 her strength is in her mind and soul, not her body.

and why be so proud you can beat up an old lady?

  • Awesome video about an extraordinary woman. If you get a chance, you should wiki her. Her grandfather actually taught Traditional Jiujutsu to Kano before he founded Judo. She overcame objections from her own family to pursue the art. I hope she inspires everyone that pursues martial arts whatever form that may be.

  • There's no words I can use to express how impressed, touched, and moved by her life and her sacrifices.

  • ok yahoo won't let people commenting on the video, so i come here to read the comment. Forgive me though because reading comments just happen to become a habit for me :)

  • just what i need, a 98 year old woman who can kick my ass

  • Awesome.

  • To the people who spread such negative energy to this beautiful woman who is a master. She is a master despite her age she has the knowledge and can teach it in application to all you fucking assholes saying harmful things. She has achieved what you and your 99 cent taco bell beef burrito bloated belly has even remotely attempted to get out of the chair. Lazy morons. Also just to bomb anything any person has to say to try to refute it. "Everyone human will get old someday it is inevitable!"

  • Thumbs up if Yahoo brought you here

  • This woman can bearly make it out of a wheel chair, how in the hell was she able to show any kind of improvement from 8th to 9th to 10th degree?

  • @dahoss65 when you get a 10th degree dan at 98 years old, then you will have a right to talk about improvement

  • @knight55243 Hey idiot...what im saying is how did she do it confined to a wheel chair the last ten years? It isnt like you just take a written test. My uncle is 4th degree and I know for a fact that one has to be active(mobile) to show great and improving technique, especially out on the floor. This lady can bearly move.

  • @dahoss65 She earned the dan in the time before that, but the sexist Kodokan refused to award it to her.

  • I am hope I am that wise and that strong when I am older. True beauty comes with age.

  • I really have no clue as to why anyone would dislike this. Normally, I don't care about dislikes, but come on! She worked on this her whole life and chose this over anything else. I have respect for her, and she is a person, to whom people should look up.

  • This is so damn touching, i almost cried reading it.

  • Amazing lady. An inspiration!

  • if only such a movie could have been made for grandmaster Helio.. rip!

  • @cocksandcobras Helio is already recognized as an international hero you dunce.

  • What a nice story :)

    GO GRANMA!! :D

  • Tumbs up if YAHOO BOUGHT U HERE!XD

  • Two dislikes means they can't handle the truth from a woman's strength. Inside and out.

  • i just dont see how she gave up being married. you could still do judo AND have a husband.

  • @josh1212121 Learn a bit of Japanese history and culture before saying something like that.

  • @josh1212121 back then in japan women were supposed to do things at home for their husbands

  • Should would have gotten it 30 years earlier if the rules weren't sexist back then. That is still amazing

  • japanese**

  • Japan is such a beautiful language :) i've always wanted to learn it

  • @Khroul its a retarded language.

  • Truly inspiring. :)

  • imagine the thing she could have did if she had gotten her 9th degree sooner instead of waiting for 30 years.

  • Judo and brazilian jiu jitsiu are 2 completely different martial arts.

  • she is well beyond 10th degree if she waited for 30 years.

  • @nuocmat she was forced to have 5th degree for 30 years because the masters were sexist and said she didnt need higher than 5th degree

  • One of the few Japanese women to devote there lives into something other than marriage and being a housewife. This is really inspiring. T-T

  • @billymadison88 Shut up u dumb bitch. There are plenty of women on earth that are trained & are considered lethal weapons.I hate when men think just because they are men they will always be stronger. Get the fuck over your testosterone PMS (which every guy has) 7 stop living such a life of ignorant denial. Ever seen those tiny little asian guys destroy guys twice their size?Same damn thing with women. It's a power beyond the physical, it comes from the mind. Size doesn't matter when your trained.

  • lol i'd choose a gun over 10th dan black belt

  • @YuneShik anyone can shoot a gun

it takes skill and determination to get a 10th degree black belt

    9mm pistol = 300 dollars

    getting a 10th degree black belt= priceless

  • @knight55243 Silly analogy.

Anyone can do Judo and yes anyone can shoot a gun. It takes skill to do both extremely well. Watch videos of the worlds fastest draw and you'll see as much dedication and training as this woman has done.

  • @knight55243 Reaching that far will cost much more than $300, not to mention your whole life.

  • @rozzalenda123 lol, I wouldnt be so cocky though, her strength is intelligence now
