  • Just for fun I turned the sound off and just watched. It looks like somebody hit the fast forward button. Nice...

  • Dude, you suck. You play like you have a UTI and maybe some cancer.

  • @dpalmerpercussion hahaha! Aw, I miss you too, Dane

  • @dpalmerpercussion hahaha! Aw, I miss you too, Dane

  • Your interpretation is a little fast for my taste. In my opinion some of the melody and the runs have lost their quality. But very well played :)

  • the man has technique

  • Pretty awesome, although I would invest in a tie clip just for safety's sake.

  • I absolutely LOVE this!

Would love the sheet music so I could play it on my marimba! x

  • you were at the region band festival i attended on the 22nd. my director was telling me about you and how all the directors got to see you play. i wish the percussion section wouldve gotten excused for a little to see you play, youre incredible! by the way, do you have any tips for a beginning mallet player? i ive been playing for only a few short monthes and im looking to get better.

  • If there were four of me, each with four mallets playing what you're doing with each individual mallet, I could MAYBE play this in a year or five.

  • could you play this on a 4 octave?

  • damn

  • @markjello If I can't "hoe" him, can I at least "prune" or possibly "mow" him?

  • I bet Locke or the Smoke Monster could play it faster.

  • @bonzodrum haha! I miss LOST!

  • @bonzodrum you don't have to say what other people can do better, he don't give a shit, he showing his skills not Locke or whoever the fuck Smoke Monster is, so stop hoeing him

  • @markjello You, sir, are an idiot.

  • @bonzodrum ok thats freakin me out. i was just looking at "lost" stuff when i clicked on this. weirdddddd

  • omg i cant believe its even playable like that! what skills!

  • @cleac rofl... oh cleac.

  • There's nothing musical about this. You played it too fast.

  • @drumnbass91 maybe he made it a ''blur" on purpose. you know, just for showin off purposes lol.

  • Great performance!

What mallets are you using? They sound like they have a good rubber core, and single toned, so I'm going to make a stab that they're the van sice series, but I'm probably wrong...

  • needz moar dave samuels

  • Have you ever given DCI or WGI a shot?

  • @punk979 nope, I never did. I've aged out by now of course

    :)

  • @CaseyCangelosi

Have you ever given eastman or juilliard a shot? lol

  • OH my good your the best man,,........

  • this video is pretty sped up haha

  • One word "Awsome"

  • hey cangelosi i send you an email...if you can respond ....please...my name is anda!:)

  • I really do agree with cleac.

  • Wonderful. - Much impressed! ... So exciting and beautiful. - Perfect!

  • About how long did this piece take you to learn?

  • It didn't take too long to learn , there are only a few ideas in all. It took long to get my hands doing everything! A good month i'd say. You should play it, all his music is soooo good!!!

  • @CaseyCangelosi wow one month !!! i Hope to have the Talent you have!.

And im starting with your Etude in A Minor No.2!!!

  • @CaseyCangelosi

This, my friend, will be the theme played when you write the ultimate Marimba Solo, and you conquer the world with magic more chaotic than Velocities (Schwanter).

What Marimba was this played on?

  • Actually the last notes are correct, that's what is written. Thanks anyway though

  • talent

  • Hey Casey! Can I get a how-to-write-for-marimba lesson? -Elliot

  • yeah dude, give me a call sometime. We could meet up at the Rice perc studio and camp out by a marimba for a while. 435 512 9843

    later

  • your technique is like perfect.

  • holy frijole...that was amazing. bravo!

  • Katarzyna Mycka plays this the BEST.

  • It's 5 octaves.

And I just started learning this... and it took me an hour to learn the first 5 measures. Jesus christ.

  • wow. how many octaves are on the marimba? 4?

  • there's 5

  • I. want. to. play. this. too.

Man! Where can I order it?

  • Nevermind. I found it, and ordered it! I'm excited.

  • you look better with the short hair and the beard. long haired and cleanly shaven you look like the ultimate percussion nerd.

  • one thing at a time :)

  • Just started this piece about a week ago after finding this video of you playing it. I'm about 8 measures in, just figuring out the most efficient stickings possible for me. Any suggestions (besides take it reeeeeeally slow at first) that would help me out? Thanks!

  • Hey thanks for the comment. I would practice the patterns outside of the piece lots. Get comfortable with all of pius' permutations, this will build up your stamina for the piece at the same time. Of course start slow, though I found speed necessary for momentum. Best to ya.

  • Jaw-dropping!

  • Is that info question/statement sarcasm or are you just arrogant?

  • it's just a joke, Pius and I are friends.

  • Sweet! Yeah great job! I'm just learning four mallet marimba. I love watching other people perform it. Its so awesome!

  • Wow you are amazing and have mastered the instrument... One day I'll play this.... (At half the speed) Lol

  • Incredible man.

  • amazing O_O

    what mallets are you using?

  • HAHAHA I love the caption! "Pius why don't you write something hard already?" Nice man, very nice lol oh and good playing by the haha

  • You know what's amazing?

    That's NOT sped up.

And the guy makes it soooo musical...

  • Amazing,very nice

    Greetings from Holland

    Johan

  • too fast for my taste, i prefer that piece slower

  • That truly is amazing! If I had to suggest anything, it would be to make the pitches of the last chord sound clearer (the woody timbre of the keys covered up these pitches), but even that is a nit-picky comment. A great, great job!

  • pow ai mt maneiro gostei + deve ser mt dificio pra tocar

  • its crazy that people can actually do this shit

  • YOU are AMAZING, Woo Ho!!

  • o.o OMG

how do you do that, it's...AMAZING...I still have trouble with 4 mallets a lot of the time, but you make it look so...easy...Amazing job, you are a an amazing percussionist, keep it up ^.^

  • Amazing.

You are just an amazing percussionist.

Best of luck in everything you do sir.

  • I think the only word I have is WOW! You need video you performing some classic concertos and put them on a DVD. Put it on Ebay (with selected passage preview posted on youtube)...I would buy.

  • big!

  • if you didn't give this 5 stars, im not gonna lie, you're an idiot.

  • you're so amazing

  • that was unbelievable.

  • i want to play like you !!! incredible !!

after to see you, I and and my teacher are thinking about retire from the percussion hahah. are you studied a doctorate or something similar?? How many years have you been studying?? you are awesome!!

    My salutations.

    Antonio Alcantara, from Sevilla, Spain

  • thanks so much. Yes I've been playing since I was very young and I'm studying at Rice University, thanks again.

  • Thats class mate! Any chance you could put up a recording of yourself playing character number 2? I heard your recording and it sounds unreal.....Pure Class

  • i can do the same *but i am Tire now*

    Joke you are amazing.

    nice job

    my salutations

  • Incredible! You are a great percussionist!

  • Is this sped up? Oh my God that's so fucking unbelievable.

  • This is simply amazing. I am in awe. You are awesome. I would die to play on a nice marimba with that many octaves.

  • damn. what type of marimba is that? im looking into buying a new one. why type is it too?

  • hello! just in case anybody has responded you.. I think that marimba is MARIMBA ONE. for me is one of the best. Salutations

  • i just started laughing halfway thru cause its so rediculous im way passed being awed props where did/are you study?

  • thanks man, yeah I laugh too when I watch this now. I'd sometimes even laugh while I was playing it. I just finished at Boston Conservatory.

  • Now is that harder then rain dance then ???/

only joking fair play thats class take ya long to get the notes?

  • man, as many pieces I have seen played on this website, this one just blew my mind. I have never... EVER seen someone so familiar with a marimba and play this this so beautifully (exempting the "greats": stevens, stout, wu. etc)

  • Thanks very much. If you want to see anything else I've done please check out my site caseycangelosi(dot)com

  • this is so sick!

  • Eriko plays this slower and with lots of rubato, and it is very pretty, almost like a different piece. When Casey plays it this fast, however it is totally kick ass. I think there is room in the world for both interpitations. (and so does Pius.)

  • this is an older version, actually the very first. If I were to play it again now I'd expand tempos more. Thanks though.

  • The piece has been revised since then, the first two measures didn't exist then. And Pius told him to play it that fast.

  • yo thanks Ian. Did like my "notes" to the gminor prelude? toolboy.

  • I laughed for a pretty long time. Though it made more sense then actual notes would have, i was quite surprised you'd make performance notes. You got one coming your way one of these days. well, maybe.

  • You know, I've seen you play for a whole year now, and this is still shocking. Fuckin sweet dude.

  • hey man!THis is awesome, I bet this would sound great on piano, and a lot easier to play too. Can you send me the score?

  • Thank you, i'm glad you like it. You should ask Pius Cheung (the composer), he is a great pianist as well as marimbist. He could hook you up. Thanks.

  • This video was really sped up 4x, wasn't it?

  • I hate to break it to you but i've seen it live many a time, including when this video was made... real time playing!

  • good playing boy! (nice writing pius) =)

    -girl

  • This is sickening, I actually actively dislike you. Every time you think you're doing ok some one posts something like this on youtube and have to take an axe to your marimba. needless to say, very good.
