you were at the region band festival i attended on the 22nd. my director was telling me about you and how all the directors got to see you play. i wish the percussion section wouldve gotten excused for a little to see you play, youre incredible! by the way, do you have any tips for a beginning mallet player? i ive been playing for only a few short monthes and im looking to get better.
@bonzodrum you don't have to say what other people can do better, he don't give a shit, he showing his skills not Locke or whoever the fuck Smoke Monster is, so stop hoeing him
What mallets are you using? They sound like they have a good rubber core, and single toned, so I'm going to make a stab that they're the van sice series, but I'm probably wrong...
It didn't take too long to learn , there are only a few ideas in all. It took long to get my hands doing everything! A good month i'd say. You should play it, all his music is soooo good!!!
This, my friend, will be the theme played when you write the ultimate Marimba Solo, and you conquer the world with magic more chaotic than Velocities (Schwanter).
Just started this piece about a week ago after finding this video of you playing it. I'm about 8 measures in, just figuring out the most efficient stickings possible for me. Any suggestions (besides take it reeeeeeally slow at first) that would help me out? Thanks!
Hey thanks for the comment. I would practice the patterns outside of the piece lots. Get comfortable with all of pius' permutations, this will build up your stamina for the piece at the same time. Of course start slow, though I found speed necessary for momentum. Best to ya.
That truly is amazing! If I had to suggest anything, it would be to make the pitches of the last chord sound clearer (the woody timbre of the keys covered up these pitches), but even that is a nit-picky comment. A great, great job!
how do you do that, it's...AMAZING...I still have trouble with 4 mallets a lot of the time, but you make it look so...easy...Amazing job, you are a an amazing percussionist, keep it up ^.^
I think the only word I have is WOW! You need video you performing some classic concertos and put them on a DVD. Put it on Ebay (with selected passage preview posted on youtube)...I would buy.
after to see you, I and and my teacher are thinking about retire from the percussion hahah. are you studied a doctorate or something similar?? How many years have you been studying?? you are awesome!!
Thats class mate! Any chance you could put up a recording of yourself playing character number 2? I heard your recording and it sounds unreal.....Pure Class
man, as many pieces I have seen played on this website, this one just blew my mind. I have never... EVER seen someone so familiar with a marimba and play this this so beautifully (exempting the "greats": stevens, stout, wu. etc)
Eriko plays this slower and with lots of rubato, and it is very pretty, almost like a different piece. When Casey plays it this fast, however it is totally kick ass. I think there is room in the world for both interpitations. (and so does Pius.)
I laughed for a pretty long time. Though it made more sense then actual notes would have, i was quite surprised you'd make performance notes. You got one coming your way one of these days. well, maybe.
This is sickening, I actually actively dislike you. Every time you think you're doing ok some one posts something like this on youtube and have to take an axe to your marimba. needless to say, very good.
Just for fun I turned the sound off and just watched. It looks like somebody hit the fast forward button. Nice...

Your interpretation is a little fast for my taste. In my opinion some of the melody and the runs have lost their quality. But very well played :)

If there were four of me, each with four mallets playing what you're doing with each individual mallet, I could MAYBE play this in a year or five.
