You said towards the end of your video about filming details that might be boring. I think any information regarding gardening is very useful regardless. Everyone gardens differently and according to their region and whatnot. I like to hear the rambling stuff too b/c it still contains information. The listener has to apply to what fits their situation or experience.
With all that rambling of my own. I appreciate your efforts in sharing what you do. Thank you.
What do you do after you harvest carrots or vegetables that you have to literally yank out of the ground? Plant more seeds? I'm new to gardening veggies ...
Good point with the supermarket allusion, everytime I go into woolies I can't help but notice how perfect everything is, we eat vegies that are far better than kings would have eaten even as soon as 200 years ago.
can you show how to harvest romaine lettuce? it says on our row tag romaine lettuce under it it says leaf lettuce, can we eat the leaves now or is this going to get bigger?
I love watching harvest videos! It gives me hope for my first big veggie garden. Wonderful moral though....Only take what you need and the garden will provide for a long time :-) nice vid! hope to see more!
NIce....I' think I'll have to make friends with my neigbours too with my surplus this year. And even all twisted home grown carrots are not caomparable to store bought in taste
I usually get really good carrot's, I always make really sandy soil to plant them in a good eight inches dug, nice and loose so it flows easily through your fingers and I don't water them to much, so they chase the water straight down, when I grow beets I usually fail I assume that growing them together is not such a good idea, I think beets prefer more compacted soil and I tend to over work it a bit, great for carrots etc not so good for beets. I huge parsnip last year same soil type.
i have just got into gardening and making a vegetable gardening and i love it great vids mate i have learned to harvest and plant because of you you are the best 5 star
Love your videos, just like hanging out in the garden having a chat to you. I've never grown a thing in my life until the last few weeks i've been suddenly obsessed with planting vegetables and your videos have been so helpful. Love the harvesting ones like this one, couldn't care less if they were perfect or bendy, it's just nice to see the result. Thanks again!
the fertilizer can stop carrots growing I think. You will get longer straighter carrots in very sandy soil. I think If you use your liquid fertilizer you will be very surprised . I saw carrots that were grown in plastic pipes of sand that were well over a meter long for a competition . The people used sand for that. The Longest carrot was - 19 feet 1.96 inches -grown in 2007by
Don't worry about putting out 'boring' material, as you say. People generally love to see others doing their thing. I could watch you pull carrots for the full 9 minutes, no problemo. Especially if they're all cool and bendy.
I would also like to see the next step: Preparing and cooking your own produce. Why not make some vids on that...
Hi there, we grow carrots alot being in a cold climate, situated by a mountain. My tip grow in ground where you last had a crop that robs alot of nutrients from the soil - such as tomatoes. Then don't add any compost or fertiliser and you will end up with great big long carrots. Good luck - great videos!
I'm curious, do you have a lot of rabbits & pests that require you to use raised beds? We garden a 100x100 ft a 100x25 ft, a small garden 10x25 + our shrub berries & fruit trees. I used to use just a hand tiller but now use a tractor as well getting lazy I guess. We used just a raised square ft, garden in city & produced so much we could hardly eat it all. I would like to see the types of vegetable seed you have in Australia? Also how much land you farm + more about your animals please?
Swiss Chard is a vegetable we really can grow in our climate. We have had it take quite hard hits from frost. Sometimes when it snows on it & it get down to -10 C even, the inside leaves are fine once it warms naturally during the day. We use Fordhook Giants & have had them 3ft high by 2ft across. We prefer the rainbow varieties though.
Yes the Harvest videos are a real gem for every sowing and seeding video made. It is always nice to see the result of your hard work after watching from day 1. I myself have carrots growing which I planted from seed back in march. They are getting pretty big now but no sign of the tops of the root yet.
You mentioned Radishs :) I would love to see you do a harvest video on radishs as I have gown my own to about golf ball size. Nice hot taste too.
im growing carrots for the first time. it will be interesting to see what they turn out to be. i wonder if agribusinesses throw out the misshapen carrots?
they cut them down and tumble them and package them as 'baby carrots' a great idea actually. before they used to throw them away. amazingly people eat a lot more carrots now because of that so everyone wins.
Okay...not feeling SO bad about my recent carrot harvest now. :) They were somewhat similar. It is interesting to see the end product of all your hard work.

cobbax9916 4 months ago
so when you cut the silverbeet leaves what happens to the bits in the ground (roots)
do they grow again? or are you just cutting a few leaves off each plant?
as you can tell I'm not a gardener yet ha

Keep the soil loose and deep for the carrots. Hard soil will stunt the growth and prevent the carrots from growing down.

great video!
but when you harvest carrots you need to take the tops of straight away otherwise the foliage sucks the moisure out of the carrot

The reason that your carrots were so stunted is that you did not thin them enough.
WoundedEgo 2 years ago 2
Great Job Mano! I'm diggin' it deep, (not sure if the pun was intended or not....) lol
I say take one of those screwgie carrots, thin cut it length wise, grill em up and garnish the top of something with them...
I'm thinking it would be pretty wild and interesting.
Peace

Back in the day they used sand to grow carrots. Mix loads of sand with the soil, get ALL the stones out and you'll get straight carrots
