Its good to torque!Don't think triumph put a V8 into the convertable themselves but I will happily stand corrected if they did. I have seen such conversions in magazines. Is the engine standard (doesn't sound like it!), or otherwise?

Yes they did. TR7 V8 in Britain and TR8 in USA. Used in rallying also.
Sounds very much like the Mustang in Bullitt btw.
