Petty arguments about bananas or dedicating your life to admiring or trying to find out how the universe (god made or not) works? All debate really does is polarize people to one side or another. Why would Professor Dawkins debate Ray Comfort? What would they debate about? Evolution? Dawkins is a professor of biology at Oxford. Ray is just some guy with an opinion. The existence of God? Ray is about the poorest Christian apologist I've ever seen. Quoting scripture is not evidence for God.

I have seen him debate with his partner in crime Kirk Cameron debate atheists on Nightline in which they both made asses of themselves. The others were street debates with random people.

Everything that he says should be embarrassing to him, because it is completely insane. I can't believe anyone could take him seriously. What possible reason could a scientist have to debate with a man who believes he is right, faith by definition is belief in things that cannot be proven so why is he trying?. Dawkins might not have the best argument, but it's not difficult to see that he is being grossly quoted out of context. And it needs to be clear, atheists don't ride on metonymy. The words of one don't reflect the opinions of all the others. It's not a religion, atheists don't have leaders, but they sure do have preachers.
Every debate I've ever seen Comfort in, he makes himself look foolish. I can't imagine how badly he would be ripped apart by someone like Dawkins. Most people Comfort debates don't even have to try too hard. Comfort himself does a great job of making himself look ignorant on his own (bananas, crockoducks etc). I think Comfort should consider it a blessing that Dawkins declined. It will spare him Comfort the ebarrassment.

The two that are the most memorable are the one where he and his girlfriend Kirk Cameron debating atheists on Nightline where he donned the infamous Crockoduck picture but the best was when he debated Matt Dillahunty from The Atheist Experience in Austin. There's another really funny one where he's standing on a street corner debating a scientist and gets his ass handed to him.

It's awfully hypocritical that they accuse atheists of misrepresenting Comfort's argument and respond by misrepresenting Dawkins. Dawkins isn't arbitrarily dismissing one form of "intelligent" design over another, he's admitting that panspermia via advanced extraterrestrial intervention is a falsifiable hypothesis, whereas design by a supernatural deity is not.
The difference between a falsifiable hypothesis and non-falsifiable assertion is as big a difference as can possibly exist in science.
No one made large dogs like Great Danes smaller. Large breeds and small breeds were independently made larger or smaller than their more medium sized ancestors.
They weren't reduced in size for the purpose of fitting in a car either. Even large dogs are roughly our own size and cars were specifically designed to fit us. That other animals of similar size can fit in similar compartments is merely a geometric coincidence.

Richard Dawkins has never said he believed in Aliens or a designer, merely that life on THIS planet may have come about by other means than evolution, such as extraterrestrials. Ray Comforts sloppy research or lack thereof is the point. Science meticulously separates reality from fantasy. Creationists don't care about reality, they are selling their brand of fantasy. Creationists never do the hard work of real research, nor do they accept real scientific research. They don't know about transitional fossils, cosmology, geology and biology. Mistakes like Rays are common when you are ignorant of scientific understanding.

Petty arguments about bananas or dedicating your life to admiring or trying to find out how the universe (god made or not) works? All debate really does is polarize people to one side or another. So, Dawkins comes to the conclusion that aliens-who themselves see that evolution has led them to such an incredible civilization and such incredible technology that they obviously believe is worthwhile since they are using it in his example-who presumably have a developed sense of right and wrong that is somewhat similar to ours-since they supposedly "made" us-decided to deny us the path that has been most successful for them-evolution-by helping design us. I have seen him debate with his partner in crime Kirk Cameron debate atheists on Nightline in which they both made asses of themselves. The others were street debates with random people.

Everything that he says should be embarrassing to him, because it is completely insane. I can't believe anyone could take him seriously. What possible reason could a scientist have to debate with a man who believes he is right, faith by definition is belief in things that cannot be proven so why is he trying?. Comfort is not a scientist, and the fact that he is willing to lie and doctor pictures is proof of his lack of any real evidence and the banana debacle proves he can't even be bothered to read a book on the subject or fact check. Every debate I've ever seen Comfort in, he makes himself look foolish. I can't imagine how badly he would be ripped apart by someone like Dawkins. Most people Comfort debates don't even have to try too hard. Comfort himself does a great job of making himself look ignorant on his own (bananas, crockoducks etc). I think Comfort should consider it a blessing that Dawkins declined. It will spare him Comfort the ebarrassment.

@thewayofthemaster I know of two of them. The Nightline debate was pathetic. Ray and Kirk were literally left speechless during a chance to retort the "can you show us the universe factory?" question. That, and the Crocoduck shows that Ray nor the Living Waters team understand evolution at all.
The second one was at some college, where flyers were posted to debate Ray for (I think) $100. The student refuted all of Ray's intro points, only to have Ray rehash the already-refuted points.

It's awfully hypocritical that they accuse atheists of misrepresenting Comfort's argument and respond by misrepresenting Dawkins. Dawkins isn't arbitrarily dismissing one form of "intelligent" design over another, he's admitting that panspermia via advanced extraterrestrial intervention is a falsifiable hypothesis, whereas design by a supernatural deity is not.
The difference between a falsifiable hypothesis and non-falsifiable assertion is as big a difference as can possibly exist in science.

No one made large dogs like Great Danes smaller. Large breeds and small breeds were independently made larger or smaller than their more medium sized ancestors.
They weren't reduced in size for the purpose of fitting in a car either. Even large dogs are roughly our own size and cars were specifically designed to fit us. That other animals of similar size can fit in similar compartments is merely a geometric coincidence.
But let me guess, God probably invented geometry too :-P

Ray Comforts sloppy research or lack thereof is the point. Science meticulously separates reality from fantasy. Creationists don't care about reality, they are selling their brand of fantasy. Creationists never do the hard work of real research, nor do they accept real scientific research. They don't know about transitional fossils, cosmology, geology and biology. Mistakes like Rays are common when you are ignorant of scientific understanding.

rubbish...we understand enough today to pretty much stop belief and fairy tales or sky-daddy's, but many ignorant "animals" (excluding people who read this post) are still hooked...and vulnerable to life without the all mighty sky-daddy, so we must take care to educate future generations with the wisdom of knowledge and understanding, not argue with fools who have rested minds.

I am yet to find any honest, earnest debate from the Creationists' side that tackles the core and fundamental flaws that have been presented over and over again. They obfuscate, they twist, they quote out of context, they cherry pick and they dismiss anything that doesn't fit their mould. I'm still desperate for someone to give me a stunning epiphany that leaves me without retort - a "God moment" where my intellect is shocked into silence. It's been a long time... I'm still waiting...

Ahh even as an Atheist if there is $20K on offer I agree Dawkin's should be motivated to debate (give the cash to charity) but beyond the cash he does not have to make time debate every Christian that wants to promote themselves and then every other religion on the planet will wan't a debate too. Its pointless anyway, if Christians are already ignoring rational thought and the whole worlds scientific body of work there is nothing Dawkin's can say in 30mins that will change their mind

I've watched the Stein/Dawkins interview. You so thoroughly misrepresent the intent of Dawkins comments that if one were honest you'd have to admit that your video is propagating a deception...that is a lie. That atheists did it to Ray is not sufficient justification and seems as if Ray and Kirk are condoning spite, or is it just an "eye for an eye". I believe you are also bearing false witness...and not loving your neighbor as yourself...Ray, do you pass your oft quoted tests?

@milsimaustralia first of all, if you listened to dakwins carefully, he explained why he doesn't think god is the designer(even though i think otherwise), so this video was NOT misrepresenting anything.So Ray didn't bear false witness.He focused on the part where richard dawkins said "there is likely some designer" but he did not cut out "god had to be created then too(and that's incompatible with the bible)".So nothing important was cut out.

Dawkins was saying it is a possibility (only) that life was seeded by aliens with the capability to design "life" ie. the simple organism that started the evolutionary process...then saying that those aliens would have to have evolved in a classic Darwinian sense because...there is no God. Therefore Ray by implying that Dawkins believes in Alien creation is bearing false witness, the illustration was to used to demonstrate that ID must be a product of Evolution anyway...

@yanashkidd77 Evolution is not based on assumptions, it is based on evidence that has been corroborated, peer reviewed and accepted by science. Creationism has none of the above. I hope you still have some school still in front of you to help you understand science and improve your writing skills. PS you may want to refrain from calling others "idiots" until you can properly construct a sentence.

Then we can go through 9th foundational falsehoods of creationism that reviews many transitional forms in the scientific literature. Then we can review evidence of evolution through study of DNA with Ken Miller, the author of college level biology books, Evidence is there by the boat load. Want more?

Also "9th foundational faleshood of creationism" will give many examples of transitional fossils that don't exist according to creationists. Have fun!

@shilohrenovation By implying that Dawkins actually believes & supports a design hypothesis where aliens seed Earth...If you listen to his comment it was a lead in for the obvious; "however, those aliens themselves would have to have evolved in a Darwinian sense". Dawkins was suggesting that even the possibility of seeded life designed by intelligent creatures is first subject to those creatures having evolved in via Darwinian evolution...@ IRussian007 & Yanashkidd77...2 words......Dumb & Dumber

@milsimaustralia The fact is that Ray's words were not misrepresented. His point was that the banana must have been designed by a God because of how it seemed perfect for our consumption. The point about comparing it to a can makes no difference. The misrepresentation and spite in this video is simply pettiness and revenge for Darwin calling him out on the truth. Screw Ray and Kirk. They're morons who, whether their point is true or not, go about "proving" god with total ignorance of science.

@abadubie Thats a really good point, but then again we're talking about a group of people who believe in ridiculous things such as an ancient text talking about an invisible magical sky daddy, talking snakes, a people rising from the grave. You can't assume that they will have a logical priority or begin to fathom the level of christian hypocrisy is if they can't even get over the fact that there's nothing special/holy/true about their religion or bible

@thewayofthemaster Regardless of what Mr. Comfort was trying to say with a soda can and a banana, can he explain why those grooves in the human and the grooves in the hands of other primates (that he believes are not related to humans in any way) are remarkably similar?
Also, how very Christian of him to relay the claim of ''ignorant fool'' on Prof. Dawkins for not denying the possibility of intelligent alien life. There is a similar amount of evidence for aliens and God - none.
