LED throwies each use 1 lithium battery (3 V), LED's don't use a lot of energy at all so they last very long I suppose (days?). Each LED has a neodym magnet so you attach it to any metal surface. This guy attached them on a board on a stick first, reversed (foam or something probably holds them on the board), then attaches them onto objects of metal, the magnets jump to the metal and away from the board. That is practically it.
