@troy5251 That is not correct. Motors are not electric. Electric motors are electric. Motor and engine are interchangeable. There are other kinds of motors that are not electric.
That nylon rope idea is a cool trick. I would be really careful that you're coming up to TDC for that cylinder, since if you get it wrong (on the exhaust stroke), the exhaust valve will be open and you could damage that exhaust valve. Same reasoning as why interference engines could be a problem with aberrant timing....
patrick, are you asking for me to do a video, or do you think i am asking you for a video. i signed into my usual gmail, so that is why my name is a little different right now
@wwjoshdew I traded the ranger for a camper. I have a 97 Dodge ram now. Something is clanking on the front end. I think the caliper is loose. I will be checking that out today. Perhaps a video???
when i had to do my crank position sensor water pump and timing belt i put the vehicle in 5th and held the brake then i used a 1/2 wrench and 19mm socket and got it loose :D
@nextrider123 One trick I use a lot at the shop if the engine is in the vehicle: Put a long breaker bar on the bolt like he had, and rotate the engine so the breaker bar is resting on top of the driver's side frame rail and crank the engine for a sec. I've never had that trick fail me yet in 12 years of being a mechanic. The frame is holding the breaker bar and the starter does the work. Of course, if there's enough room and you have an impact, use that. :)
Damn I was wondering if that would work. Great vid. How long of a pipe do you need if your gonna try the breaker bar w/ pipe on drivers side frame rig?
I just got a 97 ford ranger xlt for 750. Gonna rebuild the front end and do the timing belt/water pump/hoses/anti freeze/oil/tranny oil b4 running it.
I used a 4 ft pipe. As you can see it took about all I had. It might be easier with the engine still in the truck though. I've also seen some tricks using the starter as the torque.
Try looking for those vids also. Grats on your new used truck, Most of the work is pretty easy.
mac tool 1/2 drive air gun would be good too. I was also told to use a wrench like you will the engines in the truck and turn the starter over will the wrench is sitting on the frame.
Its more about the impact gun then the compressor. The ft lbs on the impact need to be good. I just bought my third 2.3 to build and only one out of three wouldn't come loose with my crappy craftsman 1/2" impact. I just learned about the nylon rope, so this video is nice.
Nice pill botle. Off your meds ?

@alucardgreed1 Steam engine...the list is not super long, but not short either. They are interchangeable.

@evifj I saw a video where someone used the starter trick. I had never heard of it until I had already done it twice.
I heard that the air gun won't work if you do not have a good compressor. Which I do not.
Thanks for your comment!

Is the mazda b2300 the same engine as the ranger on the 1994 trucks and do they have the same hood?
foxybrown2 2 years ago
I think so, but I'm not sure. As far as the hood, I have no idea.
patrickthenomad 2 years ago
Mazda B2300 has a better looking hood, it's raised in the center the ranger's is flat.I have a 1996 B2300.
