I had a dream where I was at Kerry Kings place or what my mind interperated his house to look like, one question that rings out in my mind... is so what is it like to work with James Hetfield? Kerrys response.. pshhhhhhh hes actually a prick! yeah its all about the cash and the ego lol
Don't get me wrong, I love Slayer...BUT they really haven't done much with their sound since the 80's,besides for maybe Diabolus. Many may see that as a good thing, but I just see it as them growing stale.Slayer desperately needs to reinvent themselves, otherwise what's the point of new album if it only feels the same as the one before it?Kerry King and Jeff Hannemen are still tearing shit up,but they seem to have lost what made their riffs so powerful
Dude, you are so right. And its not just slayer man. I get the same kind of feeling with Megadeth's new stuff, and they're one of my favorite bands, it feels kind of empty, i don't like the tone on either bands new albums either, feels too generic and computerized. Both are still heavy and shit, but both feel empty and like something is missing. It is disapointing.
It's definitely disappointing. When it comes to 80's thrash, I think Metallica were the only ones to keep their sound interesting and feeling fresh as time went on. Sure they may have gone a different route for a while, but I honestly believe that's what helped them to survive and remain dominant. People bash everything from The Black Album up to St.Anger...but those drastic changes to their sound seperated them even more from bands like slayer or megadeth..in a good way though
Well it was kind of the shock factore that kept their name big. Megadeth and Slayer just get repetative. Though megadeth up to Youthanasia maintained a fresh sound, Slayer sounded the same from the get go. Slayer really hasn't experimented with anything besides different tunings.
Well the thing of it is, a band keeping their sound repetitive will most likely never fail, it's like a safety net. Any form of change to the sound a band is first known for has the potential of destroying the fanbase. it's just a double edged sword. Most bands these days aren't into taking risks. I think that's easy enough to see with how completely ridiculous the Metal/Rock scene is today. You can maybe find a handful of great bands amongst hundreds upon hundreds of clones
Haha definitely see the safety net dude. Experimentation does fuck a lot of bands over which sucks, but its worth it. Though experimentation does work positively for some. Say D.R.I. for instance, they decided to try adding thrash to the punk and they ended up getting some minor success with it. But with the vast amount of bands originality is hard to find.
definitely. I honestly had to give up on Metal for a while. I was a true hardcore metal head a few years ago, 24/7 metal, no more no less. But the metal scene grew so fucking weak that I had to leave it behind. Every band I thought was amazing started to grow old due to lack of creativity. Example; Lamb of God had some kick ass albums, but after Ashes of the Wake they grew too damn repetitive.
this is how I see it. Death metal grew old, black metal grew old, metalcore grew old FAST, thrash grew old, grindcore grew extremely old, etc...I see all these new bands getting great reviews, yet I've heard it all before. maybe I just take it all too seriously, who knows..but there's only so many reused powerchords, blast beats, double kick or screams I can hear before I ask myself "what the fuck happened to metal?" idk. do u have any bands u can recommend?
Well everythings been done, and none of it grew old, its just the bands that copied the originals got old. As for new bands that are creative and thrash or a mixture of thrash, check out Vektor, they're from out here in Arizona, amazingly creative, quite original. Check out Exmortus from Cali, they're pretty innovative and amazing guitarists. Some interesting older bands to check out are Coroner, Cryptic Slaughter, and Xentrix. Also Watchtower and Mekong Delta. I could be naming off shit you
know, but still its innovative stuff. Invocator is badass, so is Vindicator they have a pretty original sound. Enslaved and Ihsahn have been releasing some interesting progressive stuff, its pretty different and interesting, Theres a fuck ton of Folk stuff that is quite amazing, Tyr, Korpiklaani, Moonsorrow, Thyrfing and so on, so much good shit from that stuff. YOB is a pretty creative doom metal band, check that out too. If you want more just ask me man, I know a fuckload of stuff.
@vicgarcia30 Words of advice: Pull your head out of your ass. You sound like a fool saying Metallica isn't real metal..let me guess, you're one of the "metal heads" who hates Metallica due to Load, Re-Load, St.Anger, and S&M, right?? You just can't get past the fact that they took risks and expanded the boundaries of their creativity instead of releasing the same ol' shit like Slayer has since the 80's, right? Dude, grow up. Slayer is no more metal than Metallica has been since day 1
@M1K3YDUBBZ That's complete bull shit. Slayer's attitude, sound, and aggression have stayed constant since the early 80's. It wasn't just Load, Re-Load, St. Anger, and S&M - it was also the Black Album. I love the Big Four equally, but during the 90's, Metallica was NOT metal. Look up Metallica and you'll see that they're classified as metal, but it also includes hard rock. You look up Slayer, you only see metal. Slayer IS metal. Metallica wants to get back to their old thrash roots.
@leblancstudios1 Hey, it's not Metallica's fault that Slayer decided to become a slave to their own sound. I know they continue to please some fans, but those hoping to hear something new and different from them are only growing bored with them. The only real differences in their songs are the intro squeels and riffs if they choose to use them. Otherwise, same old same old. I can't wait to hear what Angel of Death sounds like 10 years from now!!! :/
@vicgarcia30 hahahaha ummmmm what? I love how some Slayer fans are so quick to bash on Metallica. If you even gave a shit about thrash in the first place, there would be no way possible to bash Metallica for all that they've done in the past. Regardless if they've changed, they've still carried metal further than Slayer could ever dream of. So peace to you, and go listen to Ride the Lightning
stop complaining about jonas brothers!! they are both great bands, but i like jonas brothers a little bit more. psychopaty red reminds me burning up. but thats my thought, i mean both bands are equally cool so stop complaining!!!
I really don't understand when Metallica fans shit on Slayer or vise versa they are the two best metal bands of all time (minus Load and Reload) and I love both of their music.
