I'm guessing you've only heard Garage Inc. Metallica is a great band, and they were heavily influenced by those bands. As bands progess on and on they do borrow lots of inspiration from music from their fravorite bands. For example, bands like Bullet for My Valentine got most of their inspiration from Metallica and Megadeth, and if you compare their songs, they're very similar. Does that make them any less awesome? No fuckin' way.

There are those that prefer the origional, with normal voice and classic guitar, then there are thos who prefer it a bit heavier with a distorted voice. Personally, I like both.
