the thing i love about youtube is im watching a video and im thinking something and then i go look at the comments and the top is comment is what im thinking, in this case the second comment haha...i guess we are not so different you and i haha and everyone else
Now, everytime I board an elevator with two shady individuals, I will go to the top of the tower and then to the bottom. If they are still on the elevator, I swear I'll kick them the fuck out for not needing to use it.
Slavery wasn't abolished to help the Black slaves--it was abolished to even the playing fields for Northern Whites, who had to pay their White laborers, while the South had free labor--this made the South richer and richer, while the North was struggling to keep up.
By the way, I'm an African-American male Atheist. I will always be a free and independent thinker, even though I pay a heavy price for doing so. I will NOT sacrifice my individuality to conform to what I know is wrong.
It means that people reject their own individuality, and they comply with their peers and with society. They see that what others are doing is either wrong or doesn't make logical sense, but when they see a repeated pattern, they second guess themselves, and they bend to what the majority does, even if it's wrong.
It's like slavery, most Whites in the South were poor; most Whites couldn't even afford one slave, let alone many, but they still agreed with slavery, even though it kept them poor.
many people are saying they would have faced the doors but honestly no one is able to know how they would react in this situation. there are so many conformity experiments which show the same thing, most people just do whatever the other people do in fear of being different or wrong
@annahpanna True, but being.. well, not as stupid as the people in this vidoe's example, I could imagine asking "Why are you facing the wall, the door is here?" or something along that line. Social conformity I believe is second to social normality LOL
@esrapk The purpose of the experiment is to test the limits of social conformity. Normally, people would be facing towards the door of the elevator. But to fuck with people, they all faced towards the rear of the elevator to see if anyone would disregard normal behavior in favor of simply conforming to the majority. As you can see in the video, it succeeded in some instances because it's human nature to blend to society. But I bet the uploader cut out parts where some people didn't conform
Okay, I get it. The point is, the initial two people are facing away from the door. So as more people come in, rather than face the door, they face the way everyone else is facing. Hence the caption "Elevator & (key word) Conformity"
@JoeyGipsonOwen Usually, when you get into an elevator, you face the doors, right?
There were people (part of the experiment) facing the back of the elevator already inside. To conform with the majority, the entering people (who didn't realize this was an experiment) also faced the rear instead of the doors.
There's a similar video by Candid Camera that narrates what's happening as the filming happens, called "Face the Rear", which might explain things better. It's part of social psychology.
