at least he is singing it with passion. i personally loved jani lanes voice. it was more than just "passable". i guess everyone will see if warrant is still any good if they ever release a new album that has new songs that were not written by jani.
@doofy148 Sure was and kicked ass with 'em too.... different vibe to Kelly Hollands tenure. Almost like two entirely different bands on those two records.
@StephenChesneyWJ Warrant's decline was unfortunate but it happened to 95% of the 80's Hairmetal bands. Whats really funny is the 90's and 2000's rock went though a similar decline. Rock groups that were hot 5,10 or 15 years ago cant sell many CDs, get radio airplay or concert tickets today!
It's simple, this was Jani's song and it's hard to accept anyone else singing it (even Mason who has a great voice). Jani had a great voice, funny personality and songwriting talent that never got the true recognition it deserved. And he was sexy as hell during live performances. No Jani, No Down Boys!!!
Ok when you think of Warrant you always think of Jani Lane and probably always will BUT I saw Robert Mason when he was the frontman for Lynch Mob...Roberts voice BLEW me away...I have the self titled CD Lynch Mob and Robert's voice still BLOWS me away...Robert in that damn good...Robert ROCKS
I was a buddy of Roberts back when he was in Adrian Dodz(In fact I took photos at their show case gid at the Cat Club),He's a great guy.Plus he used to my friends band Edger Cayce-Prophet).He has way better voice than Jani.
Is this the singer that used to front Lynch Mob? If so, he is a GREAT frontman, I did a show with them at Limelight, NYC and he blew everybody away, give him time.......
This guy is a good singer BUT I feel Jani in his heyday was GREAT, have any NON real Warrant fans heard, Blind Faith acoustic, I saw Red Acoustic, the Bitter Pill acoustic? If people say Jani Lane sucked they probably think the Jonas Brothers are great vocalist(NO OFFENSE) unfortunately Jani let his DEMONS get in his way and there is PLENTY of video to back that up but back in the day JANI was a OK !
Damn man this guys sounds way better than Janie does these days. Janies new stuff with Saints of the Underground sucks. (Thats just my opinion) This guys sounds more like old Janie than Janie does. I do agree Janie was a great singer but Rober it more versatile and has more range. Robert can pull off any Janie song and more. Janie cannot pull off any Robert Mason songs. Janie can sing Warrant and thats it. Right now Robert is singing Warrant better than Janie though.
Here's what needs to happen, Jani needs to full on recover from being an alchohlic then perform some good ol fashion sober shows, and then we'll wee if he can sing.
im glad to see these havent let personal problems keep them out of the game. who wouldnt want to see jani stay, but its not there fault. in the words of the great gene simmons "why should i let someone elses screwed up life screw mine up"
Lane is a much better singer but if he was still boozing and wouldn't get help, then life goes on. However, no, this guy doesn't impress me voice-wise.
My god...I feel sorry that Warrant does not have Jani...no offense to Mason, I'm sure he's a good guy and I know of him from Lynch Mob years ago...but it's hard to replace a guy like Jani Lane that had one of the finest voices I ever heard in the genre of music that they play. The chemistry Warrant has with Jani is the real thing. This is nOT. BTW, Jani also wrote every song on the 1st 3 records. What has Warrant put out after Jani that is significant. That's what I thought. Mason who?
Let's be real - Jani Lane had a passable voice at best. It fit the music he wrote but in every aspect of a technically good singer he was only "OK". Jani had a very emotional delivery yes but he was NEVER a great live singer.
Mason is a much better singer and has his shit together personally.
@RocktheStageNYC I thought Lane had a pretty good voice, but alcoholism wrecks pretty much every aspect of one's life if they keep drinking. I just saw Warrant in concert this past weekend & they put on a good show and yes, Mason does have his act together. I actually felt sorry for the other Warrant band members when they had to kick Lane out of the band for a 2nd time. Some people just never learn. I wish him sobriety for the future though.
@RocktheStageNYC your comment is totally right. he sounds awesome on the albums but he couldnt deliver what he recorded on the cd on stage. mason sounds just like he did when he was in lynch mob both live nd on recordings
@ceciliamarquina - I have every Warrant album - including Jani's solo record. I saw Warrant many times throughout the years and Jani was never a great live singer. He sounds great on the albums but in concert he rarely delivered the goods. He never practiced or rehearsed so his vocals were very inconsistent. Even at Warrant's peak in 1990 he wasn't a great live singer. Robert Mason sings exactly what he sings on record. Technically a much better singer. I liked Jani's voice just not at a gig.
@ceciliamarquina - how dare I? Easy...I typed on my keyboard. In my professional opinion as a singer of 20 years and world renowned vocal coach I can plainly say Robert Mason is a better singer. You may not like his voice or the fact that he is fronting Warrant - but the guy IS a better singer technically. He may not have the soul Jani had but from a singing standpoint Robert is a superior singer.
I loved Jani's voice but he was never a consistently great singer in concert.
@RocktheStageNYC Jani Lane (R.I.P.) will always be how I think the early songs should sound.
However, I am neither deaf nor closed minded and agree Robert Mason is the superior singer on certain levels.
Did you ever happen to catch Jaime St. James live with Warrant?
I did not - but think his early work with Black 'N Blue showed he was naturally closer to the style of Jani than Mason. The song "I'll Be There For You" especially has a quality that I saw fitting into Warrant.
@destrask - Yes I saw Jaime St. James live with Warrant (a friend of mine is their booking agent) and yes he was better suited for the old songs than Mason is but I HATED all of the material they wrote with Jaime. Warrant simply could not write a decent song with Jaime on vocals.
I like all their voices, my point was simple - technically Robert is a superior vocalist to both Jaime & Jani.
Oddly enough "I'll Be There for You" was written by Jonathan Cain of Journey and not by Black 'n Blue.
@ceciliamarquina Jani Was WARRANT!!! RIP Jani you and your angelic voice shall be missed dearly. Still, Mason is a good singer and very Sammy Hagar-like to me
@RocktheStageNYC Yes Mason has always been a very talented singer, but Jani Lane was an artist. That's the difference, Jani put a rock band together and lived the dream with songs he wrote. All these guys who make it have a vision and passion. But I feel Jani's pain because he didn't age well and had a problem with alchohol. Very unfortunate.
lol i dont know how many conserts you have been to but most of the bands were messed up like the crowd. Everybody was having fun. I think hes trying to hard looks fake.
Mason appears to be a good frontman. Still in love with the music and the audience. So many bands from the 80's.. the frontman has lost the passion for the music. Hopefully Jani can find that passion again
lol maybe if he jumps around enough and jacks the mic stand off enough maybe the crowd wont notice its Jani. lol at least Van Halen didn't try to find a look alike sound alike David Lee Roth..
he is a good replacement but he aint no jani lane. i saw warrant live with jani and he gave the best performance i saw from a live band, sounded identical to the cd very few bands can do that. :0)
sorry this sucked jani rocked and will get stright and be better then ever the band should of stuck by jani and helped him instead of getting this fool!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was at this show. I was disappointed how few people there were. I wish it would have been Jani...but then again if he was all drunked out i would have been pissed. This guy can sing. His voice seems a tad bit too high though. One thing i did notice is was he didn't add much entertainment between songs...but then again he was the FNFG and didn't want to step on any toes. I didn't know how good that bald guitar player was. He was amped up much loader than the other guy i thought.
Robert has been getting more positive reviews than negative from the people that have seen him live. The guy is a pro. You can't please everyone all the time, but I'm glad the rest of the band is enjoying themselves and entertaining the real fans. Best of luck to Jani.
Robert Mason is a dedicated, hard-working, brilliant performer with a voice that has stood the test of a 25 year career. He's well respected in the industry and the band is thrilled with him. I'd say you're outnumbered.
I love the Big Cock stuff!! He's an amazingly versatile performer. Considering he has such a powerful stage presence, he's a pretty humble down-to-earth person too.
You guys who want Jani back are STUPID! I've had the luxury of seeing them w/ Jani in 2008 when they reunited. He was so drunk, he forgot half of the lyrics... the timing was way off as well. Robert Mason is an outstanding vocalist and fits Warrant very well. Go watch them live and tell me I'm wrong! Uncle Tom's Cabin sounded OUTSTANDING with Rob singing. I have nothing against Jani. I wish them all the best of luck. Rob Mason does both Jani and Warrant justice!
jani está enfermo, y robert mason es lo mejor que le pudo pasar a warrant, como dicen por fin tienen un cantante de categoría. warrant rules!, jani R.I.P
Robert Mason is one of the greatest vocalists ever, I seen him live in Lynch Mob and he was amazing!...I love Jani Lane too but he is in a bad state and I hope he gets better because when Jani's voice is in top form he's great!
I gotta say, Warrant definitely made a good decision here. It sucks that Jani can't do it, but the fact is, he can't, at least not right now. We can keep hoping the dude'll get the help he needs and get straightened out, but in the meantime, Robert Mason looks like he will KICK ASS fronting Warrant. Great voice, and a good match.
Go to the the Warrant myspace page and check out the video of Robert singing parts of all the songs!! Its the best Warrant has sounded since the late 80's
Lip Syncing??? Now thats funny. I guess you have never heard Robert Mason before? You might want to look him up somewhere. They had to replace Jani AGAIN because half the time he was falling down on stage high as a kite! Check out the Las Vegas clips on youtube. He is so wasted he can't remember his own lyrics. Check out Big Cock, Cry Of Love, or Lynch Mob to hear Roberts voice. He is a bad MF!
Good job mason!!! and hey.. i also think its a shame that jani is gone again, but, lets face it; mr. jane has been unstable since the first time he quit the band back in the days..
Thank you so much for sharing this video! I have been raving about Robert Mason since the show last night and now I can direct everyone to this video and prove what an amazing performer he is.
Warrant is back! Robert fits this band like a glove! Can't imagine where this will go after a few more shows under their belt. The show last night hands down rocked the joint with Robert nailing every tune. I'm excited for them!
at least he is singing it with passion. i personally loved jani lanes voice. it was more than just "passable". i guess everyone will see if warrant is still any good if they ever release a new album that has new songs that were not written by jani.

Good job mason!!! and hey.. i also think its a shame that jani is gone again, but, lets face it; mr. jane has been unstable since the first time he quit the band back in the days..

Rob is always a pro. He sounds great with them. If Jani wants to be an unprofessional drunk then fuck him, Rob will do just fine.

Warrant is back! Robert fits this band like a glove! Can't imagine where this will go after a few more shows under their belt. The show last night hands down rocked the joint with Robert nailing every tune. I'm excited for them!
