the e30s main rival the, 405 was, was a better handling, faster and had a much better interior. the mi16 rival to the 318is produed 155-160 hp were as the 318is produced 150. the t16 rival to the m3 produced 196 hp and 220 on overboost. it was capable of 300+ wit a remap, exaust manifold and induction kit. t16s would have contested group b had it continued. its intention was rallying and track used. it was and still is an extremely cappable car. many mi16x4 have became t16s over the years

The m106 engine is the turbo verson of the m30.. its still a 3.2 liter? but its called a "45i" engine because it has the power as a 4.5 liter with the turbo at that time. Its an bmw original turbo engine for the 7 series :)

@nottssy No it's a 1.8 look at the logo on het back!

But it looks a lot like my E28 M30B34. it is called a 3.5 but as the engine code says: it is a 3.4l

Did some minor research: the have probbebly build the engine form the E32 745i in.

That is the M30B32, it is the M30serie engine so it looks like the 3.4 known as 3.5, but it is a 3210cc =3.2l turbo.

This story was purely based on assumptions.

@Sj1bby They 745i actually came with two motors. The M102 (3.2L- Jetronic) and the M106 (3.4L and Motronic). I cant remember the exact year the switch was made to the slightly bigger motor but it was around 1983, the same year BMW discontinued selling cars with the M30B32 in favor of the M30B34 It could be either one. it also could be a M30 with M106 parts on it. My guess is its the M106, because they are a little bit more peppy. 500+ horsepower is easy to achieve with these motors.
