Since -54 and -5 have the same sign then I need to add and keep the negative sign
3x- 2= 6x - 59
Now the -2 needs to be moved to the other side to be with the other numbers, it becomes positive because you add 2 on both sides 3x= 6x- 59 +2 , 3x= 6x-57
Finally 3x-6x= -57 and -3x= -57, then X= 19. Hope this helps and thanks for learning :)
When you add -54 -5, you add like this: (Just ignore the signs and add like regular numbers) (54 + 5) = 59 and then you keep the negative sign = -59, not -54 + 5.
For example: -5 -10 = -15 (5 + 10= 15) , or -4-10 = -14, -1-1 = -2
aww thanks , i have a test tomorrow on maths and i now the sums and what to do , but then a few mintues later sometimes i forget and i cant let that happen tomorrow :)
20 years on, this seems so much easier than it was in grade 7!! Thanks, I helped my friend's daughter after watching this.

I think your equation is wrong on step #2, is the initial problem is it a NEGATIVE -5 or Subtracting - a +5 (at the end)

Thanks for your comment:
The original problem is 3x-2= 6(X-9) - 5
Now I do the parenthesis firsts 3x-2= 6X - 54 - 5
Since -54 and -5 have the same sign then I need to add and keep the negative sign
3x- 2= 6x - 59
Now the -2 needs to be moved to the other side to be with the other numbers, it becomes positive because you add 2 on both sides 3x= 6x- 59 +2 , 3x= 6x-57
Finally 3x-6x= -57 and -3x= -57, then X= 19. Hope this helps and thanks for learning :)

@Ihatemathdotcom can you please explain to me these two points
Yousaid The original problem is 3x-2= 6(X-9) - 5
Second step Now I do the parenthesis firsts 3x-2= 6X - 54 - 5
third step Since -54 and -5 have the same sign then I need to add and keep the negative sign? HERE IS WHERE I NEED HELP
-54 and -5 OK -5 I UNDERSTOOD
BUT -54 IF I ADD + 5 IT SHOULD GIVE ME 49 BECAUSE (-54) + 5 = -49

how did u get 19 did u divide or..
kenn3dy1 1 year ago
@kenn3dy1
Hi Kenny, I got 19 by when I divide -57/-3 , that is 19
the last step I had -3X= -57, since the -3 is multiplying X you do do the opposite of multiplication, that is division
Hope it helps!!
Thanks for learning !!
