  • I kinda feel what he is saying... I'm Micronesian, in my people's island of Guam, before Spain took it over, there was not only no money in Guam, but there was not even a concept of ownership... No one even owned anything, THAT WAS NOT EVEN A CONCEPT! I do not hate white people, I am half white. I am glad the Spanish showed us Jesus. I am Roman Catholic like 85% of Chamorru people. But there's so much curroption in white culture and the concept of "mine"

  • As someone who has done outrigger race for the Hanalei Canoe club, I say great job. Keep up the tradition. As someone who has raced in a Koa canoe, this is inspiring.

  • Aloha from a Canada native. we too are in a recuperating period. but I will not talk of the bad times. I love your canoe. we build canoe here too. My little girl was 5 when she asked me did any indians get there land back and after I contemplated I said Hawaii , and she said we should go and ask them how the did it. so she will be over that way when she get's big.

  • @Malandro9999 Lili'uokalani did set forth legislation that put foreighn and American interests in peril but so what?the chinese are fucking us in our ass ,Russia becomes less of an ally everyday,Japan wants us out of Okinawa, should we overthrow those governments because they act on their wishes instead of ours? No. BTW the only people who put hawaiis peace in danger were "the Honolulu rifles" 400 white businessmen who were armed and ready to fight for their stake in Hawaiis economy.

  • @Nero49er my point is accountability, Fuck the racism I won't give in to even hear it.

  • @malandrazi could we see some aloha in here please?

  • @Malandro9999 lili'uokalani relented to a superpower, you think she had a choice? oh wait, she did have a choice, give Hawaii over peacefully or go to war and lose Hawaii violently. So you see,she didnt "sell out" her people like Metallica selling out on metal(what a comparison huh?)she evaluated the entire situation and acted accordingly and she did it with a very heavy heart. I mean, she spent the better part of her life thereafter imprisoned, how is that selling out?

  • I wish i could've been a part of something like this... Looks like fun... Thanks for the video

  • this guy going off about the white people and money and greed is a haole himself. however all his points are spot on

  • good on you bro , spirit to you , live the truth. blessings from New zealand

  • Keep fighting for the aina!!!

E pili mau na pomaika 'i ia 'oe

  • nationalism all the way, be proud of your race and country, multiculturulism sucks!! don't allow ZOG to win!!

  • great video , its refreshing to hear the truth out loud. I think the biggest loss was the parenting skill's but we must hang on to our roots its what defines us.

  • My forefather's were conquered too, but I live in the present, I blend into the culture I live in. Culture is important, but it must adapt, like my forefathers did.

  • Our age is retrospective. We live in the sepluchers of our forefathers.

    nice canoe,great tools, beautiful heritage.

Enough with the whining about cultural oppression. You are as much a part of the transcendence from the old ways- you English speaking "Americans".

Embrace your new situation and become a member of the present too.

    Everybody has a "conquerer heritage".

    Aloha

  • "Everybody" being wronged thruout history DOES NOT MAKE IT OK!!! That is such a LAME excuse- most likely first used by us greedy, money-hungry, and power-crazed white people to get those whose lives & cultures we took and stomped on to accept it. Please re-consider that "taught" outlook on "if everyone has had it done- it's ok." Because it is one of the biggest lies being widely accepted by smart people who could actually help change it from "everyone" to "everyone until Hawaii fought back".

  • I didn't say that it was "okay" now did I? My statement to you was not a lame excuse either, but an explanation of historical fact. I don't accept your dismal premise about greedy white people, you generalize about racism. I did not perpetrate any lies or untruths now did I? You are associating your own misconceptions and projections onto me, Your diatribe takes away from your beautiful work. Your point of pwer is in your present. Your heritage is "now".

    Aloha

  • I must start with an apology for my comment about white people being greedy. I, although white- make a conscious effort in trying to not being greedy- which in itself proves my generalization to be incorrect- so I was out of line.

Looking at the chosen format of your comment strongly suggests that yes, you are condoning the current situation with the "fact" that the rest of our ancestors also had it done. My point is: We are here NOW- we have a CHANCE to save Hawaiian culture if we CHOOSE to.

  • Okay brudda. I'm not condoning the current situation. But, if you can do ANYTHING to save any part of Hawaiin culture, of which you seem to know more about and are more strongly connected, then my heart beats with yours. May you be successful beyond your wildest expectations. I will keep YOU and YOUR efforts in my prayers.

    Aloha,

    Biggy

  • I'd really appreciate that! I feel very connected and do hope to contribute to the Hawaiians getting back what they deserve- as the motto goes " the life of the land shall be perpetuated in rightiousness"... which was said by the king when the agreement was made with the white man to share the resources- mainly due to the widespread illness' suffered by Hawaiians brought by the English- for they had no remedy- and needed the English to help. Mahalo 4 your concern of others- ALOHA! (it's sistah)

  • My appologies sistah, I really had no idea. And, this will make it easier to ask for your success! The Gods would think me daft for praying for a brudda when you be a sistah! Thank you for clearing this up for the Biggy.

    Aloha

  • Aloha-

Hawaiians may think that there is little chance due to the dwindling numbers, but fret not. I am haole , but money is not my god. I have aloha in my soul and will stand beside those who wish to bring back the traditions of days not yet lost. I dream of visiting Kauai and hope to join the movement of good will and freedom. End Corporate Control!

  • Hi man! great!...no power tools, no that much noise, no that stress, neither that speed that destroys the possibility to watch. Watch your own breath, watch your hands working...as if they were somebody else´s. Real peace comes to all of us when we understand that we´re not what we think we are...

  • yo mdivinc, as you don't know who i am or where i'm from you should watch your words! instead of spreading offensive bullshit you could just tell me what you think i'm lying about!!

ah... and go back to elementary school to refresh your spelling skills before you attempt to communicate with me the next time!

  • POLYNESIAN POWER!!!!!!!

  • braddah ROB! how u stay!

  • That canoe is great, o ka 'aina

  • I have been visiting Hawaii since I was a child.REAL Polynesian culture is so rich with life and love for land.I'd love to learn the true heritage of Indigenous culture of Hawaii.I love how life surrounds the ohana in Kauai and how the a'ina stays untouched compared to many of the other islands.I am just a haole, but I respect everything in Hawaii, especially the people. The land is rightfully yours. So I always visit with humility and respect.Great video to spread awareness of the true Hawaii.

  • Beautifully made! I did a little research on the origin of the word "Hawai'i" after you mentioned the meaning of Hawaiian as human being (~roughly~) and was very interested to understand how the syllables of Hawai'i translate.

    ha - breath of life

    wai - fresh water

    i - seed of consciousness

I hope I got that right! My brother is Hawaiian-born ;)

  • There sure is a whole bunch of racism going on the comments list, better recognise.

  • YES!! please stop racist comments!! it's very poor what happened to the polynesian people on the hawaiian islands and what is still going on there but there's no need to hate all americans or white men... hawaii is just one place in the world where really bad things happened...

i'm german so i know what i'm talking about... let history be history! don't blame people for the mistakes of former generations! STOP THE HATE!! don't do the same mistakes like all the fuckers in world did and still do!

ae keiki o ka aina wau....

  • I stayed in a Bed & Breakfast in Kapa'a so that when I live in a foreign land I can feel the aloha of the people. When I visited Kaua'i I was a guest of the Hanalei OCC. I was preparing for the Queen Lilio Race on Kona. My outrigger club in Calif taught me the ways and customs of the canoe and Hawaiian people well. I made great friends with Waimeaa OCC and the club on the Wailua River. Mahalo for your powerful message.

  • Great video, great people. Nice to see you speaking up about the truth and the reality of how it really is. Stand up & Shout ! you are a great people. Cheers. :-)

  • Great film. I have it on my MaoliWorld page.

    Mahalo nui. :)

  • nice presentation, but the canoe is not a polynesian type canoe. thiz type canoe with the Y" figure at both ends is repudately known to be found on yap islands and its outer islands. the y" figure thing is a guider. it helps in the process of navigation. but nice, sharing, learning, and keeping the island heritage.

  • right, the Y-shape has its origin in micronesia but it spread throughout the whole pacific islands. and the carvers are from micronesia, look at the right ;)

there's only a few people left who still got the knowledge of traditional canoe making and the guys in the video are some of them. the other guy is Robert Pa, he's a local activist from kaua'i fighting to keep the ancient culture alive.

thanks for your nice comment, like you said: sharing, learning and keeping the island heritage, peace!!

  • sounds interesting,

  • @speedyboh

there are some canoe festivities going on in Yap, you can ask santos about it, he might have some videos about it.

  • You Da Man!

    Imu Cuz.

  • the DEVASTATION the polynesian ppl went thru...

    word...

the white mans god has a way of erasing culture and sovereignty

  • Keep color{RACE} outta your argument, or you appear the same as the dominator culture.

The fight of the Abrahamic religions is the root of all evil.

  • motherfucker im white... its a sarcastic statement.

    and who is arguing????

but for the sake of responding to your statement

    take a look at history...

from the history of past slavery to modern day slavery...

    to moloch and magog...

its a true comment... we (white ppl) slaughtered the natives in so many places around the world...

and this new world order shit needs to stop...

  • you're damn right AmericanConstitution but please don't offend Devastation0725 for this! he's on the good side!! he just wants all the shit to be stopped like we all do!!

Robert Pa himself stated that "the white man's god is money" and Devastation0725 just referred to this statement... please, AmericanConstitution: THINK before you write!!

ALL the stupid fights of EVERY religion - no matter which - are the roots of evil!!

    to everybody: STOP THE HATE!!

  • thank you sir... very well said...

  • IF THERES EVER A WILL, THERES A WAY!

  • MAHALO KE AKUA FOR SHOWING THE WAY !

  • mahalo for your nice comment, spread some true aloha spirit!!

  • interestingly, i have a yapese bestfriend with me here in hilo who's related to santus. he was surprised to see this clip. over all, great clip and much alohas.

  • mahalo nui loa! great video. May all indigenous people and all cultures be inspired and supported to re-inact the native knowledge that served humanity for thousands of years. Think if the Millions spent on da stupid ferry were invested into resuccitating the ahupua'a system. blessed love.

  • absolutely! great words chaska.

and thank you for sending this to us. great work!

  • true say!! f**k the super'bullshit'ferry and all the cars and pollution it brings to the island. they also could have taken the money to establish a better public transportation system, a train around the island or more buses... but no, they bring more f**kin' SUV's!! it's really sad to see them destroy paradise, let's hope that things will change, peace!!

  • i love this video it gives me the chills watchin it. america give us baq our land. hawaiian pride hawaiian till the day i die

  • thanks for your nice comment, the video shall give you the chills as well as the motivation and power to stand up and fight for your habitat!!

but always remember not to take it too serious, too much national pride can be dangerous... i'm german and if i would write a sentence like you did you can imagine how people would call me, knomseng ;)
