I think it's radically different from the album version. It's sort of upwards, more entertaining. The album version is dark, cold, moist, creepy. Specially when combined with this fan video: v=nL1aog9QPQo
plus a nice anti-depressant interaction induced hypotermia (ah the perks of surviving brain damage.
...I still wonder how, after such self-assertive stuff, mixing British Blues with a rock attitude, she came up with such a deeply sad CD as "White Chalk". Which is still a masterpiece, IMHO her best since "To bring you my love" ! Oh, the beauty of simplicity...
I know. I was hypnotised and completely captured in the wonderful moment of her live show this June..Breathtakingly, insanely fantastic..:) I'll never ever forget it..The best show I've been to my whole life - and that I'll ever see..
I didn't care much for the songs on this album because I'm used to my hard core PJ, you know? But this side of her really grew on me. I love this haunting sound...a great song to listen to while you shed all that negative energy and stress in the shower
I had the pleasure of seeing this first hand, and she was so beautiful. Strong and fragile at the same time. I shed tears there! Love it, and the whole album in fact.
I agree, absolutely, that her live performance of Grow, Grow, Grow is much better than the album version. "The Mountain" has a similar sound to her live performance of Grow, Grow, Grow.
Listen to Ballroom version of The Devil and the Hay on Wye 2006 version of The Mountain. She seems more restrained in the studio, but live she just lets it rip.
Many thanks for these marvellous videos. I'll be seeing Polly play in London on Saturday so this is a fine, fine taste of things to look forward too :)
Thank you so much for putting this vid up. I was at Colston Hall on monday. Was hoping someone would put up a video from the concert. I prefer this version of grow to the album one.
Her voice is so pure and clear!! I love PJ!!

"I sowed a seed" sounds like Hopelandish... Bad sound, but a very intense song.

so funny, she did this on the Tonight Show Tuesday, and on Monday night I played my electric autoharp out at a club for the first time ...
