@piniatamurderur Actually, the STG 44 was the precurser to all assault rifles, but not the AK-47... The AK-47 was made because the USSR needed an automatic weapon that packed a harder punch than the PPSH. But you are correct on the internal mechanics. I'm almost 100% sure that the AK has a rotating bolt much like the M1 Carbine.

@paratroop24 Eh. If you look at an StG44 and an AK-47 they have pretty similar features so it's not a bad guess to say Kalishnikov used the StG44 as a base. Front sight, banana magazine, buttstock, the front sight kind of looks the same.

Well excuse me for being curious... and the AK-47 was based off of the STG44. When Kalashnikov was healing up in a hospital (he was shot by an STG44), he started to wonder about the STG44. He found out how it works and noticed many problems. He fixed all the problems up and that became the AK-47.
