Great interview. Lookin' back, him and Johnny Guitar Watson inspired me a lot when I was a kid with that Pimpin' persona thang... so much style. And of course, you can look the look, without walkin' the walk ! No disrespect intended ;)
Actually, men in the 70's had a sense of style..they had a natural coolness..you just didnt see a brother unless he was "DRESSED"..it was just something that was expected..brother always smelled good and looked good..it was just the way it was during that era..it has nothing to do with "Pimp-style"..just coolness...I miss that!!
I said two months ago, he has "pimp like" qualities. Today, i'd like to add to my earlier statement. He has pimp-like qualities AND that masculine Black man energies that America fears. (This was also emailed to me from another Utuber.) In NYC, i've seen guys with that same energy get harassed by NYPD "just because..."
@fnkdrmmr its called "soul" pure and unadulterated! Hated, maligned, characatured, and ultimately stolen and negatively marketed by hollywood, hence your perception. He possesses that 'rare essence' that the 'dominant cultue' in America fears, but that once tapped into defines Brother( that smooth, respect me and mine, true to the end, ride or die style). This Bro is a trailblazer that created music for his scene that became a new genre. Study him and you'll become a funky drummer.
@fnkdrmmr LAWD' you are young. Obviously, Pimp like qualities, you obviously did not grow up in the 60's & 70"s, this was typical dress for those, of whatever color in the Industry. I remember people walking down the street everyday dressed like this.
@cammicty You're correct. My statement was obviously without merit. I do understand that Black men have natural "style and masculinity" that most other men revere and emulate. I guess saying that Mr. Chuck Brown has pimp-like qualities is unfair. In general, Mr. Brown is one cool dude...
@fnkdrmmr Thank you, now when you see them today dressed like this as Snoop Dog, etc, they are trying to have pimp status. Also, back then we did have some pimps dress like this, but then it was the general fad during that time.

Chuck Brown has naturally Pimp qualities - sorry for stereotyping him. The shades and the godfather hat make him appear to be a real character.

Just because someone has a pimp "look", doesn't mean he has "pimp qualities".

He sounds like a pimp and his mannerisms are pimp-like.
