This is the version of Two Tribes that was on the original US edition of the Pleasuredome CD. All other versions of the CD contain the three-and-a-half minute version of the song. The greatest hits CDs contain other remixes. I searched off and on for years and finally found a used copy. You can't easily tell which version is which by looking at the CD sleeve covers because the track listings on all versions are inaccurate. You have to find the right catalog number: Island Records 7 90232-2.
Damn, I remember this from one of the end of day closing credits on the Winter Olympics one night. I'm guessing the 1984 ones in Sarajevo. There was no lyrics on it though. Channel 9, Australia. I guess talking about dead grandmas during elite sporting competitions was a no-no.
gotta laugh when people say 80's music was bland and too pop influenced, there's never been a record as powerful (politicaly) and as ground breaking (production) as this....and probably never will be!
That sound was before it's time. Beat is still very relevant. I imagine it's being played in the clubs even today, which is where I left most of my hearing unfortunately. lol
Yes I bought the EP at HMV in Oxford UK which came with the same t-shirt of Lenin but never saw either of them for sale back in Canada. Thanks for posting these.
The ' you may pronounce us guilty a 1000 times over' is from Hitler at the Munich Putsch trial in the 1920's. The narrator: 'if your grandmother or any other member of the family should die whilst in the shelter...' is the actor Patrick Moore from the public information documentaries on British Tv in the 1970's.
There were 4o million mixes of Relax and Two Tribes. This version still gives me the creeps 25 years on. It was a scary time. Then there was Threads...
I rember as if it was yesterday!Mum got this on tape I have that same tape That how I first heard of Valdirmir Lenin!! I am pleased I got to live in England it the'80s it was so MUCH FUN REALLY IT WAS
I know someone in montreal who worked in radio in the 80'S that confirmed me the existence of special promo mixes released only to radio stations.I have heard a ''promo'' version of two tribes longer than the 12 inch available to the public.
@madmack10 I believe these are known as "Disconet" versions (which they did for many songs & artists during the 80's), i am sure i heard one played on Radio 1 during its chart run at the top, i remember it having an extended Nuclear Fallout bit with the narrator (Patrick Allen) - really wish they would be released on CD...
Suppose George Bush and Tony Blair were right and they attacked Iraq and Saddam Hussein was not only developing WMD but DID have WMD. A nuclear holocaust may have ensued and we would have been annihilated. Those two cunts knew he was not developing WMD, WHY? BECAUSE THE TWO CUNTS WOULD HAVE KNWON IT WAS TOO MUCH OF A RISK THAT HE REALLY WOULD HAVE THEM AND SO WOULD NOT HAVE ATTACKED! Tossers. Prosecute the fuckers for war crimes. Scum.
"if your grandmother or any other member of the family should die whilst in the shelter put them outside. but remember to tag them first for identification purposes"
I already memorised this. excellently spoken by patrick allen
Pure genius and sums up the feeling of the cold war threat during the eighties.(This was in my head during NBC training - still sends shivers up my spine!)
Cutting edge music. Never been better. People who are old enough to remember the cloud hanging over the world back then can identify. I was 15 and thought it was very poignant. Plus it kicked ass :)
During the heighten fear generated by such an attack (aided as always by the compliant mainstream media), hastily prepared intelligence will blame country A, which will lead to possible nuclear retaliation. Added to this, Israel could attack Iran and India could attack Pakistan.
Brzezinski wants war with Russia and wants China out of Africa. The Council on Foreign Relations has already warned of a possible dirty bomb attack on the U.S. in the future, so get ready for yet another false flag terrorist attack on U.S. soil.
Barack Obama is yet another puppet of the New World Order. His mentor is Zbigniew Brzezinski former National Security Advisor to the Carter administration. It was Brzezinski who was responsible for funding and training the taliban in Afaghanistan to fight the invading Soviet forces.
I first heard this version when BRMB (local radio station in Birmingham, UK) were counting down the Top 500 selling singles of the 1980s at the end of 1989 / beginning of 1990. They played this at number 4 at about 1:40pm on Monday 1st January 1990. I used to have a cassette recording of it (with the Top 5 hits) but maddeningly I can't find it anywhere.
Here's a question I'd like to know: how many different versions of the song were there when the track was originally released in 1984?
It was an obsession of mine once to try and get to hear all the 1984 versions - I was sure during its No.1 stay, when Radio 1 used to do a lunchtime countdown, one week they played a 12" mix which is like Annihilation but with more Patrick Allen quotes. Or maybe its my mind playing tricks and it was just the A mix. I have also uploaded the Hibakusha mix and the Dont Want To Die version. I also acquired a copy of the cassette version called Keep The Peace, but there was nothing new on it.
@TheUTubeTeamSucks I know that on Tuesday 7 August 1984, after Radio 1 confirmed TT's 9th week at #1, they played a new mix which was about to be released exclusively on the "Now 3" compilation. As I recall, it was much like the regular 7" but with an exuberant "Enjoy!" section before "Tell the world that you're winning." However, I've just listened to the track from a supposed Now 3 compilation and it sounds like the original, so maybe they reverted to this for the latter-day CD release.
@simonvaddan Thanks for the reply - interesting indeed; i may have to do a bit of searching and see if said mix exists somewhere ... as i said, i'm sure i remember a diff mix being played one week, nice to find out my mind hasnt gone after all :-)
@simonvaddan I mananged to get hold of a NOW3 cassette and uploaded that version - it is indeed different from the regular 7", but i'm sure i've heard it before - cant place where tho ...
@TheUTubeTeamSucks Nice one! I've just listened to your upload - the mix is pretty much exactly as I remembered, and great sound quality for a cassette rip, as well. Enjoy, indeed!
Actually, i also remember reading a review on Amazon on the double 12" album about something called "Disconet" versions of some songs that were exclusively issued to DJ's and radio stations and such, and were not been released commercially. Perhaps i heard one of them on the radio that day.
Further research has shown the the Video Destructo mixes are similar to the Annihilation and Hibakusha versions. The long one is pretty much the Hibakusha with more voices on it, plus the guitars included before the loop back to the start. The short one is as the long up until the middle 8 where the original orchestral bit is used and on to the "listen to the voice saying follow me" section.
