I'm so glad I never heard of this rubbish before I discovered Stereolab, otherwise I would have written off the greatest band of the 1990's before I'd heard any of their music. Likewise with Joy Division, who I would never have bothered with if I'd known they had any link to a certain purveyor of crappy 80's disco music (although New Order did some great stuff in their early years, I later discovered).
Why this 1989 album "Enraged will .."is not sold anywhere?it's not bad album at all, allthough they say it's their worst because of drummachine etc.,there are brilliant songs on album (including this one),and "An Address To The Better Off" and "What Our Boys Are Fighting For?"
One of my biggest record shop regrets (and I've had a few!) I was in Rough Trade, Covent Garden around 1991. There was a bootleg live video of McCarthy on sale. I didn't have the cash on me at the time, so let it go thinking there would be plenty of opportunities to get it again. Unfortunately, next time I was there it was very much no longer available. Some person or persons out there, somewhere, have got a copy. Please, please, please upload this. This band was far too good to go unrecognised.
When did McCarthy become hip? Me and friend put this group on at the Jericho Tavern, Oxford, in 1989. They certainly weren't hip only about 40 people came - though they were brilliant. I definitely remember seeing a video for 'Should the Bible be Banned?'.
nathan37354 obviously is not musically inclined, has not done historical research on who this band is and has no clue as what indie is or will be or why bands who have staying power are considered important and why some bands don't make it or gain the respect or cult status that this awsome band has, you either have or you don't nathan does not know so please forgive him everybody
Sorry, you've got a good point there ;) Personally, just for me, this song strongly reminds me of the first time I listened to the first few Stereolab singles. Particularly the way the lines are delivered. Isn't Laetitia doing some backing vocals on this somewhere? My imagination?
Even moreso than Banking, Violence and The Inner Life Today? At times that almost sounds like it could be a Stereolab album...even has Laetitia on guest vocals for a few songs!
thankyou, thankyou, thankyou so much for posting this, glad to see one of the greatest leftist bands of all time finally get posted on utube, now if we can only see well of loneliness we will be eternally greatful, best wishes :)
I just ordered all three albums...now the waiting begins.

Brilliant tune from a great band...discovered them through a cover the Manic Street Preachers used to do of 'We are all bourgeois now'....

Superb. A woefully under-appreciated and under-exposed band. One thing, though. Is this slow or has the version on 'Enraged' been sped up?

Proud owner of a 12" copy of this, along with a fully functional turntable. It's had a spin out in the last month or tow, as has 'I Am A Wallet'.

McCarthy make me feel joyous.
Tim Gane has very nice hair, I must say. I am awfully jealous.

Indie sucks donkey dick, the only reason bands are indy is because they have shitty vocalists and crap production.

I think we should encourage Nathan as he expresses thoughts just like a big boy.
