Drumming sounds Great! I know you listed the type of mic you use but can you tell me what the mic plugs into? Does it go directly into te video camera you used? Thanks
2.30-2:45 ish , what type of beat is that? u have heal toe going on single kick? plus the 1 hand tom roll. you point me in the right direction for some lessons on that stuff , would be appreciated.
@SabianAxis its the exact pattern for the entire song of "bleed" by meshuggah. and listen to the stuff off of chaosphere. i think you might appreciate the drumming
can you give me any tips to improve on left foot clave? also, if you havetime, could you watch my video and tell me what you think? any tips would be gladly appreciated.
I went about learning the clave pattern by first playing it by itself. I then played it against different hand patterns, such as doubles, paradiddles, flams etc. After this I added the pattern on the right foot!
Try building it up like that, I found it much easier than trying to jump into the whole groove all at once.
Dennis, your ability to nail these perfectly thought out solos is amazing. I love the dynamic build up leading to the explosion at the end. Killer as always!
Waaaw man, at that very moment, I'm amazed, you are so creative ! Your solo has the good length, a good gestion of the intensity, and it's so damn original ! I bet 2$ you'll become famous within a couple of years. At least you already have the potential and the skills !
Good job again Dennis ! You've got one fan in france :D !
That is intentional of course! :-) I find solos with a uniform intensity level the whole way through rather tedious to watch. I think it is important to mix up fast and/or loud with soft and quiet playing.
I normally try to connect them together. When I was recording this one, however, I was thinking in movements, as in each section would be it's own part.
Excellent, Dennis. My only complaint would be that the clave needs to be more audible. Perhaps you could position a mike a little closer to it. Good luck on the competition - the D-Rod Army will be rooting for you.
Thanks Rudy! I would like it louder as well but only one input on my interface is working, thus I'm using one microphone as a mono overhead. It seems to do the trick though!
Bravo! There's some really awesome stuff in here, Dennis. I love the ideas you were exploring in the first section with the inverted paradiddle. I wish you would've continued developing them a little longer, actually. I'm always a sucker for an ostinato in 5/16, too. It's a great bed to solo over.
awesome video yo.. u got solid foot technique, and i dont think i noticed any mistakes.. lol very nice stuff loving the beats, and the volume control adds more to it. very nice. I really like ur set up too.. pretty cool. and the beat at around 4:10 ish is very nice.. kinda drum and bass ish

Why do you play the pedals without shoes? Is it more easy? Or there are another reason?
jabasto 2 years ago
I find that I have more control without shoes on. I started without shoes so I just got used to it! :-)

The pattern is called a herta. I don't really listen to Meshuggah, but perhaps they used the same pattern in a song! :-)
