  • Great footage! How gorgeous and safe to watch from my living room, but it felt like I was there...thanks for uploading and for no music...

  • I live inland [Bristol areaish] but occasionally, if there is a very severe storm, we actually get SEA WATER on our south west facing windows-it is salty. Rare, but just shows the power of the winds.

  • Thanks for the sub.. was going to sub back but I can't access your page.. it says it is not available! have a great Sunday :O)

  • the power of the sea is amazing

  • @nixon092010 It sure is. So many folks don't realise that they have to respect the ocean. No matter it's condition, be it flat calm or a storm. If it wants you, it will take you.

  • @paul1967uk I respect mother nature more than anything. I'm a surfer so I know what water can do to the human body, it's not pretty. Scary!

  • Awesome video, I'm surprised you could even stand up, let alone hold the camera straight with those winds! The sound makes me feel like I was right there with you. Oh, I love a stormy ocean!

  • oh my i dont think id fancy being stuck out in that :$

  • perfect surfing conditions

  • WOW, that's the same place. It still looks beautiful . Were all those people waiting to stand there and look.. LoL

  • Now THAT's a storm.

  • Wow, that's rough. (:

  • Been out ther on my kayak - not today!

  • swimming anymore?

  • Dec 89 - couple of wks b4 before Xmas. That storm hit the South coast of Cornwall hardest, & is the worst I've ever seen (in 40 yrs). I remember seeing a man opening his car door & the wind ripped the door right off and wrapped it round the bumper. That winter was hellish in many places - but the terrible Burns Night Storm of 1990 has been strangely forgotten (unlike Oct 87).

  • @custardaghost thanks

  • I love watching coastal stormy weather, even if I don't relish getting caught outside in it.

  • You really must learn to hold the camera still sometimes. And avoid those 180 degree, shaky pans.

    Good video otherwise.

  • WOW !!! AMAZING WEATHER !!!!!!

    Totally crazy waves :-)

  • That is some crazy weather.

It donned on me today that if there was ever a tsunami,Portreath would be wiped out

  • @JippersinCornwall But have you ever seen it when the tides out further than Gull Rock. !!

  • can't say I have..but I did notice how quickly that tide can come in today. Is there a sand bar down by the rock?

  • a Petrified Forest

  • Seriously?

Tide in or Tide out.. it's a beautiful area..I'd say it's maybe take a few lives in it's time too...

Took my SLR with me today....didn't take the memory card out of the computer did I?

    Doh!

  • Seriously, Only ever seen it some of it once. And that was years and years ago.

    Try googling for more info.

  • Theres been once recently.

  • very impressive

  • AWESOME !!!

Thanks for attaching this to one of my Great Lakes videos!!

    Hugs

  • Welcome to Britian! A typical British spring/winter day!

  • I'm lost for words, wow !!!

  • I live down here and was there in the carpark, i had to have a shower when i got home ude to all the sand stuck on my face and hair. I never thought i would see the pepper pot at the end of the pier completely engulfed!

  • great lakes are sh*te

  • Yeah, the waters are amazing. Type in the words between the quotation marks in the YTube search engine.

"Storm surge newquay, mawgan porth beach. March 10 2008 18:38"

Don't know if this is also tidal as well as storm surge, it sure is wild

"Unsalted Outtake #3 - Whitefish Inspiriation"

Winds only 30-40mph but there is a strong current around the point, imagine what this would be like with 50-100mph winds

    "Lake Superior Storm"

Superior but not at any where near full fury

  • Wow. Now that's what i call a storm.

I just love it when the sea is like that & like you, can't resist the urge to go & watch :)

  • Pssst. -23.8888C here last night, or -11F in Detroit, colder in nearby up north places, luckily little wind. The G. Lakes: Seiche waves (Wiki it) up to 16ft. that slosh around from one end or side of a lake to another, they are very fast and dangerous and kill. The Great Storm of 1913 supposedly kicked up some 70ft. waves, over 200 sailors lost on the Lakes. In 1975 the Edmund Fitzgerald was sunk off Whifefish Point, she was 729ft. long, seas were 15 to 35ft. plus, wind up to and over 100mph.

  • Also checkout 'Lake Ontario', some good videos of the storms along the New York coast, Oswego and Webster, NY maybe. Some canadian has some good vids. of winter storms on his side of the lake. Seiche waves - sloshing waves - also occur that travel across the entire width and lenght of the Lakes. The Lakes are much smaller than the oceans, but the energy of the waves hitting the shores, particularily where there are cliffs, reflects that energy back into the Lakes. Amazing stuff.

  • Looks like Lake Superior or Lake Ontario etc.

  • Yikes I know you guys do things big across the pond, but I didn't realise that Lakes over their were on Par with the Atlantic Ocean LOL. Thanks for commenting.

  • I was being obnoxious. However, the Great Lakes get very bad, waves up to 35' confirmed, and estimates of up to 70' on Lake Superior. Searck for 'Big Ass Waves', 'Lake Superior', 'Lake Michigan', 'Edmund Fitzgerald', 'Witch of November', 'Great Lakes maritime disasters', 'Unsalted Whitefish Point inspiration' etc. The waters of the earth and all nature are fascinating. That was a bad storm you had there.

  • I was being obnoxious aswell. LOL

    Thanks for passing by.

  • Fun is it not?? Yes, it is. Checkout the titles I gave you. They are called the Great Lakes for a reason. There are more good videos of this storm and others along the Cornish and Sussex etc. coasts. Nasty.

  • Looks like Newlyn harbour .The one in 1989 was the worst i have ever seen with the sea coming in like mountains !

  • It was Portreath,

  • I remember passing this on my windsurfer

  • I heard about the storm being bad in the south west mate.

  • ugh really scary

  • Wow! That was bad!

  • Wow! Never Seen It 'That' Bad Ever! Gull Rock Had Waves Breaking Right Over The Very Top Of It! Amazing! Nothing's Changed From When I'd Go Down There ... Cars All Lined Up On The Hill & The Car Park Full! Couldn't See Any Suicidals Out On The Harbour Wall This Time ... ( Possibly The Police Had Stopped Them). Great Video! Hope You Didn't Get Wet Feet! Thanks For Notifying Me Of It ... & You're Right ... Not A Day For Sitting On The Beach With An Ice Cream! :)

Btw Paul, tried responding to your message to me but it said I couldn't because we had to be friends first. Tried to apply for friendship, hope you approve ^_^

  • filmidioten...approved.

  • This is my 10th Wedding Anniversary. (March 10th) Both my husband and I are home sick from work. We have a pretty nasty virus. It seems like we feel much like this video depicts. Take care Paul...and hope you weather out this storm.

  • That's some turbulent water! It would be cool to see that coast on a nice day for the comparison!

  • search Portreath in the youtube search box, you should find plenty of film of the area.

  • Mean old levy, taught me to weep and moan. And when the levy breaks, momma ya got to go.
