His arguments are good and will work for any weak mind. I could debate with him about religion for hours, days even and i doubt he could debunk my arguments, and i wouldnt use any bible recitations or other sacred text to explain God existence, cuz that is what most religious ppl do and that change them into a pain in the ass to talk about religion.
@quinnmcguee Look at you, with nothing backing you up, just you alone being arrogant enough to claim the Bible is false (which tells me exactly what God thinks). The height of self-deluded arrogance. Shame on you. Not to mention you don't even have any group to make a judgement call on me, from you perspective we were not created by any intelligence, you can't even trust your own thoughts. You have to have my worldview to even make a judgement call. Pathetic.
@Kinosis79 The bible has contradictions, ergo where it contradicts at least 1 statement is false. The bible cannot have any false statements to be true. Therefore the bible is false.
You don't need to have been created by an intelligence to be intelligent. That's like claiming icing on cake isn't sweet because it's creator wasn't sweet.
If you need any backing up to what I've said just ask, I have it.
Feel sorry for the guy if he didn't repent. Unfortunately for him he is probably in hell for the rest of eternity. Hitchens even admitted the reason he spends his time fighting against God is because he wants to be free to do whatever he wants. He is just an angry teenager mad at his parents for telling him what to do.
@Kinosis79 Not an angry teen. Only angry at the waste of resources, acquisitiveness of the church, and wars and smaller injustices performed in the name of god.
You are not making the appropriate leap to seeing things from the perspective of an atheist, either by choice or lack of capacity. You have to be able to conceive of the possibility that your god might indeed be imaginary. No atheist accepts that a god exists, when we talk about what a god does or says, we're referring to the god CONCEPTS in the mind of the theist, not the god itself, as it doesn't exist outside of that theist's mind. Hitchens certainly understood this.
In his public affairs always this: First critical, then honest. By that I mean: if your critical analysis results in unexpected and socially unacceptable conclusions: Do you tell or do choose to 'forget to mention it' in order to not disturb the status quo? I've mastered the critical, but I seem to forget to mention it to my mother I'm an atheist. In my view his being honest is where Hitchens shines! (and his ability in finding pleasure in other people making themselves very silly).
Discussion of the afterlife.. how pertinent to the week. So many religio-charlatans have announced that Hitchens is no longer an atheist as he is now experiencing Hell, the afterlife.. How tasteless of these fools.
@AtheistCitizen Who are you to make a value judgement on what is tasteless? Your world view doesn't allow for right and wrong, just people's opinions, so if you are right, nothing is actually tasteless, it's just different opinions. For you to even make that claim you have to borrow from a different worldview. What a joke.
I had a terminal illness that was fixed by surgery. Not for one second did I believe in gods and ghostss. Not once. And when I survived I gave even more to the hospital that took care of me.
Just so you know, those of us who can think recognize your antagonism as the desperate pleas for attention of an angry and sad person.Sorry I cant get angry and insult you and give you what you need. But you do have my pity.
"If it is in the name of God, then it has a social license. Well fuck that is what I say!"
So sad that the great Christopher Hitchens is gone, but at least we have the fantastic wealth of his writing and videos that will continue to be a huge boost for everyone trying to rid themselves of religious indoctrination and who simply want to think for themselves, decide for themselves, and live in a free and tolerant world.
We lost a Horseman but have gained a lightning rod of reason, wit and logic, with a spattering of humour. Lit students will study this great man's writing style, wordplay and logical discourse. Truly a legend and I consider myself lucky to have shared the planet with such a wonderful mind.
LIKE A MUTHAFUCKIN BOSS THIS GUY! Damn... I think everyone was legitamitely sad when he died... Not like the way people were fake sad when Michael Jackson died I mean it really has ruined my whole day yesterday and today and probably tomorrow... R.I.P. Chris, we should all be lucky to be half the personyou were.
@cosmicskydaddy1 Regarding "influenced" (past time) <- I'm also very sad that he didn't live longer, however, it is not as if his death means that he will not have an influence at all any longer. If kids studying ethics, comparative religion, philosophy etc. in school get to read his written words and/or watch his appearances on shows like the one in this video clip, his life will still be able to influence others in a positive direction in the future as well.
Some religious people have absolutely no respect for others. A friend of my brother told me, with a smug smile, that she thought he had changed his mind (I don't recall her actual words) before he died. As I recall, I simply told her she was wrong. I didn't want to argue with someone who was also in pain. I regret that now. I should have told her to keep her stupid, incorrect opinion to herself.
"You can stop right there"....hahahaha that guy KNEW he was about to be annihilated. Watching Hitch debate theists was much like what a UFC match up between Anderson Silva vs. Justin Bieber would look like.
My greatest regret is that he did not survive to see a world where Saudi Muslims didn't behead a woman for practicing "sorcery and witchcraft" like they have this month. Man this news has ruined my whole week. Humanity will miss your wisdom and guidance for some time to come.
It is a true sadness to have lost such a great man. What makes it worse is that we are going to have a bunch of Jesus freaks saying that he recanted his atheism on his deathbed and started to pray.
@Stuckherewithyou I agree to a point, but then you've got to factor in how many IQs he managed to raise by sharing his knowledge. How many have been brought out of ignorance by his words? I think many more than some would think. He left us a lot to go on and it is now up to us to see that his knowledge and his work never dies.
@RhondaH Yes. In all seriousness I agree with you. It is our job to keep the Hitch-Slap alive and beat that nasty little troll of ignorance and superstition back into the corner.
What an awesome clip. Is there anyone who could utterly dismantle religious dogma more effectively than Hitchens? There is a lot of slack to pick up now that the man is gone, and I don't know that anyone is capable of filling those shoes. RIP Hitch.
Religious assholes never miss a chance to twist their knife do they?
BTW, saying "RIP" is a catholic bullshit term that promotes an afterlife in the mind, I think Hitchens would have politely said "you can shove your RIP".

@seemeasis You' r a mental child with an imaginary friend... and your imaginary friend is just as real of that of every other person in the world who has a different but equally imaginary friend as yours. Budha, Allah, Jebus, it does not matter, you the willing victim of a cult which originated, to explain the world when men could not explain the world around them in a scientific way. Superstition, that is all your faith really is.
@UncleJesse1 BTW: Uncle Jesse, I believe you're right anyhow. From oblivion to oblivion ... reincarnation from the oblivion, then back to the oblivion again.

Oh well, perhaps the time between incarnations is simply the "unknowable" (Hitch's own word.)
@grizzzlyjoe That sounds painful, like an endless carousel where the consciousness goes trough every possible lifetime over and over again? And that's the best scenario, if you're unlucky (people in real shit) you would have to do the whole thing over and over again.I think we put to much emphasis on individuality, like a grain of sand, it is already like all the others, but if i would completely "obliviate" it, i could never make that individual again, only an exact copy.
@grizzzlyjoe It is not really implausible i guess, it does not conflict with how we see the universe and potentially the multi- and omni-verse. But, “That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.” :D, All i hope that if this would be the case, that it would be the many lives instead of, the one live over and over... Poor people stuck in the crappy universe (or is that us)...
@pegasusfreedom I'm curious as to what you mean about describing a fascinating and wonderous cosmos as crappy. You and I should be so lucky not to be born in a third world country riddled with violence and disease. Now, that can be crappy.
@pegasusfreedom The only time the philosophical view of being the individual like the grain of sand, is to consciously measure one's subjective vantage point to view our own horizon. But, the rest of the New Age saying, that we are re-born for every perspective is just someone's imagination at work. Either you can play around with that concept and wish it to be true or be amused and let it go.
@truvelocity Dude, take a chill pill, first of all that is what i meant by crappy universe, people suffering in third world countries.. you really need to read my post again, because i even used a Hitchens quote to adres that "playing around and wishful thinking. Read a comment before yo respond, don't just browse over it...
@truvelocity I hope by doing so, you will see that i was not promoting such an idea, i was opposing it, the sand grain was not a metaphor in favor of immortality but in favor of mortality, as in; every grain of sand is already a copy of one another, therefor making one more copy, while it still exists or after is only gonna have the same result. But i was entertaining the idea however JUST FOR WHATIFS how life would be if this would be true...
@grizzzlyjoe I see where you are going. I too "do not know" what the afterlife will be. So for now I am expecting non-consciousness. Oh sure, it's interesting to think about my "energy" continuing on...but I'm not convinced. All the best.

How to stop any person from telling you that someone is in or will be sent to Hell:
a) If they are a Christian, tell them that THEY will go to Hell for refusing to accept the Word of God as spoken by His prophet Muhammad.
b) If they are a Muslim, tell them that THEY will go to Hell for refusing to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
