don't you ever think it's inherent to the roots of punk to be a little selfish or hypocritical? As far as i've seen, early punk rockers were radically independent. They had so much disdain for things like selling out, but that never made them right. They didn't do research to defend their hate, they were just really angry. Hence, punk music. and it was awesome
even though colplay annoys the hell out of me, you have to admit they have some quality, whereas the jonas brothers and completely terrbible, their music sucks.
selling out isn't about the money, its about the sound. music is about sound. thats it. and when you start producing a sound that is designed to simply target those who are easily influenced (teens), you deserve to get called out on it. the bands that do this are scape goats though. the real problem is the labels that buy up and promote junk.
the labels want to make money if that type of music helps them make money then there is no problem especially as the majority of that money will go back into promoting and supporting other generally better bands
i must admit that i am bias because i am a musician. and very anti labels. but that was a fair enough statement. but it still stands that taking money out of the arts with produce better art. which is what i am looking for. much much much much better. labels wont give us that. they move slow.
