JD is not the greatest singer of all time, he's not the worst singer of all time. I'm not going to hate on the people who say his live vocals suck because more often then not his voice does crack and distort, but i personally would rather have that with a really unique vocal approach then the cookie cutter vocals that everyone else uses. It's what makes them different besides the badass intrumentals
The vocals at this particular gig are fine. If you're expecting him to sound like Dio or Gillam get real. The Sword are not that sort of band. He could probably benefit from a bit of training but then most singers can and these guys punch out a killer show. I have heard famous singers who are allegedly great deliver shocking live performances and they weren't chugging away at speed metal riffs at the same time. These guys have proved themselves. No keyboard jockey can take that away from them.

Having seen a few live vids from recent months and them supporting Metallica, I think this is the best sound they've had in this little venue!
Obviously sound recording quality comes in to it, but there was no excuse for the sound Metallica gave them in Glasgow..just mush.

Do you even listen to music? I really like The Sword but in terms of this kind of metal (the argue rages on if you can even call it stoner etc) I thought this was really over produced and lost some of the impact. Compare it to Electric Wizard, Pagan Altar, Kyuss, Sloth and then you'll find the real 'non-commercial' sound.
I listen to music all of the time. Do you? Just because it does not sound like it was recorded under a pillow doesn't mean it is a commercial recording or it is not "heavy". If you listen to Kill'em All the first thing you notice is the biting,driving riffs, hence my comparison. It is my opinion. I did not criticize any other band because I am a huge fan of all types of heavy music. I think that they put a lot of thought into their arrangements and they have a huge sound which is awesome.
I don't give a shit what anybody says about vocals or otherwise. THIS BAND FUCKING ROCKS!!!! They are by bar better than anthing else that is out right now. This the kind of music that lingers for decades.
Just came back from seeing these guys on 1/26/08, man not even the same band as here. They just slay live now. Tight, heavy, loud and professional. One of the best shows I've seen in years. They have grown a ton. And the new material is just fierce.

Sorry, not metal. While The Sword is decent band, but I just want to roll my eyes when I hear fans tell me how "heavy" they are. I listen to The Sword when I'm not in the mood for heavy music, lol. Even Rage Against The Machine, not a metal band, just hard rock, has "heavier" grooves when they feel like it. Look up Origin and tell me who is "metal". Overrated (but I still have their cd).

Do you even listen to music? I really like The Sword but in terms of this kind of metal (the argue rages on if you can even call it stoner etc) I thought this was really over produced and lost some of the impact. Compare it to Electric Wizard, Pagan Altar, Kyuss, Sloth and then you'll find the real 'non-commercial' sound.

I listen to music all of the time. Do you? Just because it does not sound like it was recorded under a pillow doesn't mean it is a commercial recording or it is not "heavy". If you listen to Kill'em All the first thing you notice is the biting,driving riffs, hence my comparison. It is my opinion. I did not criticize any other band because I am a huge fan of all types of heavy music. I think that they put a lot of thought into their arrangements and they have a huge sound which is awesome.

Just came back from seeing these guys on 1/26/08, man not even the same band as here. They just slay live now. Tight, heavy, loud and professional. One of the best shows I've seen in years. They have grown a ton. And the new material is just fierce.
