  • And this is why Sailor Stars was not dubbed.

  • Now this is what I call Trans-sexual, lol.

  • Work it~

  • ok: dudes that are really chicks turn into chicks. wow... The dub of this would never have found a way to explain this to kids.

  • @VJ122333 theyd add a part saying that they used their sailor magic to disguise themselves as men because the ones who are after them were told to look for girls.

  • im scared boys can turn into girls now OH NO MY GIRLFRIEND MIGHT BE ONE OF THE SAILOR STARLIGHTS NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

  • did they just turn "he" to "she"?? o.O

  • @jo2anthony When they say "Secret Identity", They mean "Secret Identity!"

  • @jo2anthony yeah. they are from the other planet and they are women but on the Earth they had to be men because someone who is after them told to look for a women. everytime they turn into Sailor Star Warriors they are turning into their normal sex - female. whoa, this is complicated,i'm not even sure if i remember it correctly,so sorry if it was not exactly like that.

  • my favorite transformation, i don't really like any other of the transformations other than jupitors, theirs is so sassy and bold. love it

  • Also this video surprised me since it has so many comments..... Who takes all that time to write a paragraph about gender bending???

  • If I were usagi the 1st time i see that I'd be like WTF their girls???? What in the world is going on here!??

  • Honestly i dont feel it was nessisary to make them gay, lesbos, trnnys, whatever

  • ...they need to get their sexual transformation operations, stat!

  • @omegalavender The Starlights are women. People always think they're men but them being from what out of Solar System they could be gender neutral. Because Naoko herself was mad about the gender switch because senshi are women and ONLY women. Proving furthur they're woman and the fact in episode 199 they change into beams of energy.

  • wow, great

  • Why did the animators decided to draw an asscrack on Taiki? Were they feeling perverted that day

  • im trying to figure out how seiya is loves usagi, if she loves her then does that make her...gay?..

  • @MissSugerA Yes it makes her gay 'cause Seiya's true from is a female.

  • @MissSugerA they are men in the anime (human form), but change into women when they transform..in the manga they are female disguised as male

  • @chemutu actually, they Starlight's are women. It's stated by Naoko the creator herself that only senshi can be women. The odds are, the Starlights being from out in a different galaxy they're gender netural. Due to the fact Naoko was also mad at about the gender change. They're male forms are only a disgue. In episode 199, them being gender netural can also be shown such as them being beams of energy to attack Galaxia.

  • @MissSugerA first of all its lesbian n yea i think she is

  • @MissSugerA yes, because the Starlights are women due to the fact the Starlights are women and only senshi can women so in the anime/manga (which some have returned, the manga and the others returning this year and in the manga Seiya is a women and kisses Usagi making her a lesiban). And Naoko's rule states since senshi can only be woman makes Seiya gay.

  • I love Healer's transformation! She just has that look that says: "Mess with me and I'll kick your ass!" XD

  • even when taki-san transforms into her/his girl form she still doesnt look like a girl to me

  • @sailorvenus72

It's her face, the way it's constructed just makes her look more boyish.

  • @b1njjj95 oohhh ok thx

  • @sailorvenus72

    Np :)

  • But just saying, when Seiya transforms in the begining when the phrase is said, there is no sign of any femineminty, and if you pause at 0:08 you can see the transition from a l_l_l(flat) chest to a (_l_)[curved] chest, but from your explanation, its probably just to trick and fool viewers into the whole male disguise thing

  • @Photoshoper1996 oh, well that's what I heard, thank you for the clarification :]

  • @NoelleXD1 they were originally girls in the manga but are boys in the anime, the reason they become girls in their transformation is because they WERE girls in thier past lives(as sailor scouts), but were reincarnated into boys in their current lives

  • @TheForgottenCherish no they become girls due to the fact they are actually girls. They're disguised as boys to find their princess. The Starlights were never reborn. It is said by Nako heself that only girls can be senshi. If they were boys in their current lives they can't be senshi then. They're from Kimoku, a different planet, Galaxia attacked and they fled to earth and diguised themselves as males in order to find their princess. When transformed, they're in their original form.

  • they are girls or boys?

  • @NoelleXD1 girls when thye transform or when they r in their planet. n boys when they r on earth(btw the boy version is their deguise)

  • I wonder if Jb does this o.o

  • ROFL not kangaroo, was supposed to put manga but my phone got kangaroo out of manga apperently ;D

  • And uh starlights are male in the anime and female in the kangaroo, if you look closely during Seiya's transforma, when that magenta light come in, he goes from flat chested to having breasts xD(didn't notice that until now o_o) and when he says 'make up' you can obviously tell he doesn't breasts then

  • They put the "Trans" in Transformation, oh yeah, I went there. XD

  • @TheForgottenCherish lOOOOOOOOL

  • I've always preferred the idea that Usagi should've been gay and she should've chosen Seiya instead of Mamoru! Does anybody agree?

  • The Starlights are female. They are transmen however (that is to say female who want to be males). The anime nade them transform physical sex in the anime, however, that is not the case in the manga

  • I personally think the idea of the Starlights being able to take the forms of men and women in the Anime is more interesting than just being women disguised as men in the anime. Not to mention that in the manga they didn't seem to be treated as main characters as they were in the anime.

  • Just goes to show:

THE HANDSOME MEN OF TODAY ARE THE WOMEN OF TOMORROW!!!!

    YAY!

  • wish they had kept them in america-i bet a lot of androgynous people would be pleased :3 me included lol

  • wow.. what a quick way to grow b**bs... +_____+

  • I'd call then transvestites, but I suppose Sailor Star Healer looked like a girl even before transforming anyways. Still love these three either way.

  • As a kid, there wasn't any fuss about gender transformation (gender-bending is one of my my fave genres). But now watching this kinda looks funny. Handsome men yelling "make-up~! while" becoming hot ladies or something seems interestingly intriguing. lol

  • Whats the big deal with the gender change in the transformation?

When I watched the fifth season as a kid, I just accepted it.

I wasn´t shocked or anything, I was just fascinated by this beautiful transformation and music.

so wheres the problem?? they just changing their genders in a beautiful way!

  • Seva is dickhead

  • They're men. They're only when when they transform.

  • They're only "men" because somehow they can appear with a male body to throw off their pursuers while searching for their own princess. It worked, since only women can be sailor soldiers. Indeed they are really women and Seiya is pretty much exclusively a lesbian, considering she was in love with both Usagi and Kakyuu.

  • @mattblack04 Even in manga Venus shifted her appearance with this magic pencil or whatever it was to look like male Mugen student. Since she was drawn as flat chested, it propably changed her whole body.

  • They are transgender!

  • I just treat it like a reverse Orioki no Jutsu and let it go at that, seeing as their true form is the Star Lights, and their disguise form are the Three Lights

  • Lol I like how people are still baffled by the whole gender thing. Oh you guys.

  • i think they made them boys to make the anime uh.. interesting? i mean i have to admit that the girls' reactions to them in the anime is quite humorous o.o

  • @ams9846 the Starlights are women, when transformed they are in their original form. Senshi can only be women, Naoko herself was mad when Toei did the gender confusion and said only senshi can be women. They're only disguised as males to find their princess.

  • I like that they actually are girls. ♥

  • altamente!!!!!!! só agora é que noto que eles/elas mudao de sexo durante a transformaçao!!!

    haha!! adoro as starligths!

  • I think this is the reason why they didn't dubbed this! HOMO much

  • they're hot as guys and girls. xD

  • me irl

  • YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

  • i always love sailor starlights

  • why couldnt they just stay girls like the manga? Deguising themselves as men is stupid

  • @andredrw289 well im pretty sure they became males to become popular to reach their princess. usually when your a guy and you're a singer, you get a lot more attention then girls. so with that attention they can reach their princess.

  • @Musafan222 i totally get it, but like they said, them being "guys" breaks the major rule of sailor senshi, only girls can be them

  • @andredrw289 well it doesn't technically break the rule because the Starlights ARE all female in their real forms. the male bodies are only part of the magical disguise. but.... yeah it's pretty stupid

  • They are so bitches!! :D

  • Did they use some kind of spell to become completely male - with all the bits - as a disguise? I thought they just dressed male and still had female bodies.. in the transformation it shows male chests turning into breasts...

  • @bp3394 Yes, that's exactly it. It's pretty silly and it's just another example of being weird for the sake of it.

This time it was the anime writers at fault- in the original manga story, the Starlights only disguised themselves as men, but always had a female body.

For some reason those writers went against the author's wishes and made the disguise include magically changing into a man as well.

  • @bp3394 the Starlights are female. I think they have the power to be gender netural because Kakyuu asks Fighter "Do you use that appearnece on Earth?" and Seiya confirms it was more convient to find her. And senshi can only be women, so this would make Seiya a lesbian due to fact she loved Usagi and during the last battle she protects her. In ep 199 them being gender netural can be also proved by them turning into beams of energy to attack Galaxia.

  • I always kind of hated their costumes x(

  • @hollyhock18x7 I completely agree. I love virtually everything about Naoko Takeuchi's work, but there's a line between artistic expression and "ok now you're just being weird for weirdness' sake", and she crossed the line into the second category with the design of the Starlights outfits.

I wish they just had black versions of the typical sailor senshi outfit. Those are at least similar to an athletic outfit (like a gymnast or ballerina wears), plus some decorations.

  • Seiya's transformation sounds like "fighter star power MEEEOOOW up" He's meowing

  • Sailor Star Maker got ripped off in this sequence.

  • It might aswome to have a pretender transformser song to go with the starlight transformation, like "pretender transformers they got the power to surpries". or "master the power, the power,of pretender transformers".

  • always thought they looked a bit like dominatrices.

  • The manga and anime are diffrent from my understanding. The Starlights were always meant to be female both in human form and senshi form but disguised them selves as male in the manga, where the anime made it a point to show them as males in there human form transforming into female senshi. Apprently the creator was a bit upset with that. (Never get her name right won't bother butchering it -_-)

  • Their transformation requires more time in thechanging-clothes phase than in the changing-gender phase lol

  • Comment removed

  • I just jizzed...

  • I never understood the big deal about the Starlights gender changing. :/ It's a way to disguise themselves, what's there to be disturbed about? Besides, Usagi herself once used her Disguise Pen to transform into a man in the manga.

  • @Louchan2 when they r in earth they r males

  • @Louchan2 Honestly I think it has to do with the fact that Star Fighter developed a romantic interest in Usagi. You know how homophobic people can be, that's the reason some of the male villains were changed to females and Uranus and Neptune were made into cousins. I think the reason this last season was never aired in the US was because DiC felt there was no way they could edit it the way they did the other stuff.

  • @CannibalSushi3 Be thankful that we at least did not pull an Italy. We censored quite a bit, but Italy did the same thing and more. They blamed the cartoon for being violent which you rarely heard from parents here. As for homosexuality, United States censored same-sex not out of homophobia, but because we are bound by the damned politically correct system with the parents and cartoons. Italy on the other hand, censored it because the parents and psychologists said it makes boys like penis.

  • @AggroVolken Well I'm at least glad that the US has become slightly more tolerant with keeping anime true to the original source instead of trying to butcher it up like in the old days. It wasn't just the fact that they censored all the potentially offensive stuff, it was the fact that they would try to erase all traces of Japanese influence on the shows and pretend like the shows were purely American. I felt that was slightly racist.

  • @CannibalSushi3 I would not jump the gun on racism, just yet. Keep in mind, many Japanese cartoons were geared toward children around 7 years back then so the editors thought it appropriate to edit out the cultural elements because children then would not have gotten the references since we were not exposed to other cultures like the modern generation is. None of us then would have known the elements and did not have the numerous available resources today to go by in learning about them.

  • @AggroVolken I guess maybe you're right.

  • @CannibalSushi3 And technically speaking, the dub would have actually been done by Toei's North American branch, Cloverway, Inc since DiC lost its license shortly after season two because Cloverway kept it closer to the Japanese version, and yet ironically...kept homosexuality out because it was the 'politically correct' thing to do (-_-).

  • @Louchan2 1) homosexuality and cross dressing is an unusual but accepted part of today's world... physically changing genders back and forth constantly is not

    2) it was a stupid and unnecessary change from the manga, it does nothing but add weirdness in a show that already has plenty of it

    3) it would have been much easier to understand if they clearly said "these characters are female, and use magic to disguise themselves in a male body". But they didn't, and the viewer is left confused.

  • @bobdonda

    1) The biggest reason why the Starlights were changed to men in human form were due to the complaints about Michiru and Haruka's homosexual relationship. So clearly homosexuality wasn't as accepted as gender switching at this point in time.

    2) I both agree and disagree. I prefer the Starlights as female, but I don't think the change has that much of an impact on the show itself.

    3) Seiya's discussion with Princess Kakyuu clarified that.

  • @Louchan2 1) i'm 99.99999% certain this is not true, unless you're referring to a dubbed version in a country other than Japan

    2) it doesn't impact the show itself, but the change impacts how the show is viewed. people are confused and wonder "what is going on, are they male or female or what" instead of paying attention to the storyline.

    3) yeah, but it was just two quick lines. would have helped if Seiya clearly explained "we disguised ourselves as males while on this planet" or something

  • @bobdonda

    1) Um... it is true, that was the entire reason for their gender changing. Look it up yourself if you don't believe me.

    2) I never felt that way, so I disagree.

    3) I think "Do you always use that appearance on this planet?" and "In order to find just one woman, this form was much more convenient." was a pretty clear explanation.

  • @Louchan2 1) where can I look it up to find definite information like that? I have done tons of reading online about the show and I've never heard of that until your comment.... sounds like a rumor to me?

    2) I personally was distracted from the storyline by wondering about their gender, and couldn't help but wonder what the writers intention was. I can't be the only one

    3) I guess. I just think something that strange and distracting deserves a bit more of an explanation.

  • It's been stated that only girls can become Sailor Senshi, not males. In the manga, the Starlights are girls through and through. The anime messed it up.

  • @behindthymask Naoko was not pleased when this happened. however, the Sailor Starlights being boys as civilians is like a superhero hiding his or her identity from the enemy as a civilian. the Sailor Starlights were trying to find princess Kayuu but do not want Galaxia to find them easily.

  • @behindthymask In the anime(Now please correct me if I'm wrong I haven't seen it in 3 years) The Starlights were ACTUALLY female, they just used male disguises to attract females and find the queen.

  • @deoxysfan10 Your right

  • @behindthymask Thats true, but it does not prevent them from becoming guardians of their planets similar to a sailor scout... like Tuxedo Mask who has psychic powers and the ability to heal the earth and other people.

  • @behindthymask True, Naoko said only women can be Sailor Senshi BUT she also contadicted herself since true Sailor Senshi must possess a Sailor Crystal and there is at least ONE male with a Sailor Crystal, and thats Prince Endymion (who is Earth's guardian senshi). He's Sailor Earth in ALL but name and appearance.

The changes made to the Starlights didnt really alter their characters in any way...except that they were minor characters made major. She should be proud of her characters' upgrade.

  • @PeppRmintBUDy lol seen that way...earth's power is the most incompetent and useless in the galaxy xD

  • @ty0052 (LOL) and Earth pretty much is just that...although i think it has a lot to do with the fact that while all the other girls developed more battle experience and continued to grow and develop more attacks & powers, he just sort of popped up every so often.

He's basically like that FINAL FANTASY character you never use.

  • @PeppRmintBUDy mmmm...still, he basically has no power at all...even batman does more that throwing his boomerang (rose in tuxedo's case) if you get what I mean.

  • Comment removed

  • @behindthymask THEY ARE ONLY DISGUISED AS MEN!

  • @behindthymask They are originally girls... So shouldn't it still count? I haven't read the manga, so I wouldn't know for sure...

  • @behindthymask they are females, but the thing is that when they went to earth they changed their gender to male to try to find their princess. It's even said their princess asks fighter

"Do you always dress this way on earth?" asked the princess.

"Yes, it was more convienet," said Seiya.

    So they are female.

  • Japan...

  • So let me get this straight because I'm confused, these guys turn into girls, right?

  • @BeeGirlLive123 yeah apparently

  • @BeeGirlLive123 the Sailor Starlights are girls but became boys to make it harder for Galaxia to find the Sailor Starlights while trying to find Princess Kakyuu. that is in Anime. in Manga, the Sailor Starlights are girls even as civilians.

  • do you think lady gaga is a sailor moon fan? I bet she is!

  • lol i was mad they stopped dubbing sailor moon but honestly this would've just weirded me out in 4th grade

  • In one of the other group transformatons :P

  • I love how Star Maker's ending pose is cut off XD

  • I wish Sailor Moon can come back. Some of the anime now makes no sense lol

  • With transformations like this, who needs transgender surgery anymore! a nice power to have IMO

  • Seiya => Usagi

    Taiki => Ami

    Yaten => Minako ,

    that's creepy.

  • if i were serena, i would get freaked out by the fact that seiya turns into a woman o.O maybe im just too straight for my own good

  • Amazing! I can't seem to understand why Sailor Stars never made it to America.

  • @BeatlesAmiYumi because sailor moon in the 90s in america was targeted towards children, and there was no way to edit out how the men changed into women, and saiya being a lesbian. they should release it english someday, for young adults

  • @blackkat77 I don't really understand what you mean by Saiya "being a lesbian", but I always believed the sailor starlights to be seemingly younger than Darion (Mamoru), as in not hitting the voice part of puberty just yet.

  • @BeatlesAmiYumi because saiya is really a woman and hitting on sailor moon. you know how north american tvs sensor gay stuff for young ppl. its annoying but it happens

  • Which story writer thought it would be really cool to have them be men who transform into woman?

  • i almost choked on my drink when i watched this honestly i never really understood the sailor starlights. -.-'

  • @MiniMagicGirl Me neither.

  • For the life of me I could never figure out why they chose to disguise them selves as dudes.

  • @ultrajd It's because they were looking for their princess, who is a girl, so they tried to attract more women that way.

  • @Bobgirl009 *Slams head into desk* Why didnt I think of that at the time?

  • @ultrajd Haha, well they actually said it right after they found the princess. She was on the couch.........I forget which episode.

  • @Bobgirl009 I dont even know how many years its been sense I've seem this show.

  • @ultrajd Still, I don't see why they couldn't just fight evil as guys. o.o Something I will always ponder........

  • @Bobgirl009 Who knows.

  • @ultrajd Anyway, the fact that Seiya likes Usagi is kind of strange then. If he is really a girl.....

  • @Bobgirl009 Well the show is really one big yuri fest. LOL

  • @ultrajd Haha, well I wouldn't go THAT far.

  • @Bobgirl009 But its true!...For the most part.

  • @Bobgirl009 the Starlights are women. Only senshi can women. When the Starlights transform, they're going back to their original gender. Indicating their gender netural. If you look up here on youtube Sailor Moon art book 5, there is a picture done by Naoko herself showing the three lights clearly as women. I think they're gender neturalized. They can be both genders then.

  • @Photoshoper1996 I see. That makes sense. Thank you!

  • @Bobgirl009

    Your wrong.

They disguse themselfs on Earth as men to hide from Galaxia.

And they make the Three Lights to sing messages to her, and find her.

They really are body and soul women.

  • @ruthieeebishh Oh, really? I guess I was wrong. Thank you for clearing it up!

  • if he is a guy why is he wearing a bra and shirt???

  • @12345pierocks

    They are not men.

They are women. On earth they are disgused as men to hide from Galaxia.

  • claro q estas tambien eran muy chimbas

  • MAGICAL TRANSVESTITE POWER :D

  • Sailor Starlights are women! Not men! They are originally female, only women can be Sailor Senshi. Their not men, not even in the slightest bit. In the Anime, The only reason their "men" on Earth was to disguse themselfs from Sailor Galaxia while they searched for their Fireball Princess.

  • @ruthieeebishh not only women. what abbout tuxedo mask/kamen. he is supposedly the sailor scout for earth.

  • @misssailorneptune

    He is.

He holds the Earth's Star Seed, so he's the protector of the Earth.

In the manga he is the Prince of Earth.

So therefore, he is the earths Sailor Scout/Protector.

  • So bizarre - I just saw a video from a Korean band called Rania, and they have uncannily similar outfits. @_@

  • @moukidelmar

Ikr? Jeez. As a lil kid i culd never quess if they were quyz or qurlz. :P

  • Naoko Takeuchi was very upset with this because the Starlights are always girls in the manga. And Seiya's interest, therefore, was even more onesided. That said, this transformation is pretty cool.

  • ...=.=" okay... so they go from being extremely effeminate men to being bondage women? Geez, it's like Micheal Jackson

  • 0:13 That face was dead serious/sick O_O and thanks vocaloidandlegolover for explaining XD

  • O.O the transformation they aired on TV looked different. Never knew they censored it.

  • 0:28 That girl has dude boobs o_o

  • @kawaiihuggle That's because that girl is a girl in senshi form, but a boy in human form.

  • @vocaloidandlegolover

    Your wrong.

They really are women. Not even men, in "human" form. They aren't even considered human.

The only reason they were "men" was to disguse themselfs on Earth from Galaxia. While they were searching for their Princess.

  • lol they are wearing girls' scout clothes they are men but they have boobs no offense!

  • damn the aliens, their uniforms are cooler than the solar senshi.

  • if their true forms are females then this means seiya is a lesbian since she had fallen in love with usagi =)

  • @marineangemon Their "true forms" aren't females. They are males in their "true form." It would probably be more appropriate to say that they are females in their "powered up," form.

  • @Quizoid Can't agree. On their home planet they were originaly females. In order to find the princess on Earth, they turned into males, and they turn back into females in their senshi form.

  • @AvelinePL Cool, thanks for clearing that up. I've only seen bits and pieces of season 5.

  • @AvelinePL you're correct, only senshi can women. I think they're gender netural.

  • @marineangemon I believe the way that the Japanese perceive and present the matter is that being 'generally heterosexual' or 'assumed to be heterosexual' does not stop you from developing feelings to a person of the same sex, this is especially prevalent in manga/anime. Just because Seiya fell something for Usagi does not make him/her homosexual.

  • @marineangemon i think they are pornstars if they were real ahehehehhe

  • Yaten is so cute! Seiya has a nice personality! And Taiki has a brain.

  • Aw man kinda wish they were dudes ;A;

WHY CAN'T DUDES BE SAILOR SCOUTS HUH //crei

  • @cagecageking because this is a very un PC tv show

  • @cagecageking Well TUXEDO MASK has the sailor crystal of EARTH, is the prince of Earth, and thats his guardian planet so technically, theres at least one male sailor solder. Even tho hes not called "Sailor Earth", he essentially is.

  • THATS SO NOT FAIR !

THEYRE BODIES ARE WAAAAAAAY HOTTER THEN MINE XP

  • @JKMY4LIFE

dont worry that why they invenbted surgery

and dont worry a lot of anime girls must be hotter then you

it just how they are draw

but at least your real and that something they can never be lol

    for our world anyway
