I think you would find it interesting to research where the term "Christian" came from, who it came from, and what sect it defined in the 1st century, who and what it is today and then reason why it has turned into the valuless term it is today. I believe when you do, you will not use that term w/ as broad an application as you do. I also believe that after the research you will have a far different understanding of the "C" word. The the real ? is r u a follower or a member one with the Head?
I would argue that Hell is an immoral punishment. Also Punishing someone because they don't love you seems pretty petty to me. By the way doesn't love typically require knowing someone before loving them? If I got a letter in the mail from a stranger asking me to "love me or die". I would think that's insane, how could you love someone you don't even know? Put a gun to my head and I'll tell you whatever you want to hear. If you really want my love, respect, admiration then you need to earn it

Great vid!! I'd also like to add that belief that Jesus is the ONLY way to Salvation is an important doctrine. I'm a "10 commandment" Christian because they were written in stone with God's own finger and placed in the ark of the covenant (or testimony) seen in heaven in John's revelation. It's about "the light we have". Oneness? Trinity? "Father, Son, Holy Spirit". I don't need a word to express that. God bless....
You know I have vascilated on the whole oneness thing. The trinity is so hard so very hard to understand much less put into words. I bet if I asked 10 trinitarians their definition of the trinity I would get 10 different answers!

The Sabbath is quite a heated debate for many of my brothers and sisters. To the point they believe they can't learn from a "Sunday Worshipper". That frustrates me.
My rule of thumb is the thief on the cross. He recognized that he deserved death for what he had done but Jesus did not. He recognized that Jesus would come into His kingdom, which to me says that the thief knew Jesus had been sent by God and that His kingdom would come about regardless of His death. Whether this means he believed in the resurrection or not is unclear to me, but at a basic level he must have believed in Jesus as the Messiah. It was enough for him to be in Paradise.
He was humble, admitted he screwed up and asked for mercy, because he recognised the Truth. God really likes humble hearts that recognise Him . I see many parallels between a parents love and Gods love for us. What parent with a screwed up kid who came to them with a humble heart, admitting they had screwed up and seeked your forgiveness and help would turn them away? A parents love is agape. They mate hate their kids actions but a good parent love them unconditionally. Oh and discipline them!
Reminds me of the prodigal son - it's one of my favorites. The father's so happy to see his son alive that nothing matters but having a feast and celebrating.
I am also a trinitarian and have been a born again Christian for over 30 years now. I agree with you, PG, that groups such as the Mormons and JW;s are not, in fact, Christians for the reasons that you cited. As for the Christian community at large, there are many differences in worship style, clothing, lesser doctrinal beliefs, etc... but as long as they claim Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, they are my brothers and sisters.
What about some that are closer to home? Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Episcopalian and the very liberal protestant demoninations? Do they preach the same Jesus?
That is always the question, isn't it? I think it depends on the individual. I was reading the excellent comments my sister, Lara posted to this very question. I have to agree with pretty much everything she states here. I know Catholics, for instance, that fully believe in the shed blood of Jesus for the remission of sins while others seem to dwell more on the works/ritual basis to get them into heaven. I agree with everything you said. I would also add that God is merciful and we do not know what lengths he will go to reveal himself to those who do not know him, even after they die.
I tend to disagree with the idea that we only have this life to accept the Lord. I believe that the Lord will give all mankind a fair chance to choose him.

That is, a person who has reached a point in their life where they say "it is finished, I'm done with my life, I give my life over to G-d." And in surrendering to G-d, they ask Jesus to forgive them and to save them. Their life is forever changed.

Early Greek philosophers said the same thing saying that G-d was unknowable (Essotericism) this made its way into the early church and it was considered a heresy.
I hold to the notion that in Genesis G-d relieved much of not all of His nature and what was needed for salvation including the coming messiah.
If the person is new to the Family, but doesn't know as much about Jesus as, say, you, George, then I would welcome them. After all, they still have a lot to learn of Jesus.
If, however they claim to "know it all" and reject the Risen Christ, I would have to say that I would have my doubts about that. That being said, I agree with other posters here, in that only G-d knows.

Conclusion... they are my Brothers and Sisters in Christ all who confess Jesus as the Christ and believe in Him.
What I am thinking about is where Jesus says Depart from me I never new you.

Nope - and from what I remember both thieves reviled Jesus according to Matthew, so he wasn't repentant until some time after he was crucified.

I believe if you dont know Jesus Christ as God came to earth was put to death and rose again then I dont see how someone can be saved.
Being fully man, yet fully God is somewhat complex, and I believe for those who dont get exact details, God does understand them better than we do.
In other words, what I believe, and what God knows is beyond my ability to allow myself to clearly judge someones salvation.
For those who havent been given much, I wonder how much is expected.

Later on in the evening I wrote the post, I talked with my son about htis some.
I realized that I did not express all I thought on this issue. Sometimes words arent enough and why I believe God knowing our hearts is so much more.
There is asking for forgiveness which is just part of the deal but I didnt put into words.
I am thankful that God knows all of me and not just a little.
It is freightning but peaceful at the same time.
