  • paxman is an arsehole.

  • go alex, you show them how its done

  • JEREMY PAXMAN IS A SCOTOPHOBE !

  • @IndependentScotland - Hes a political journalist. Its his job to challenge his guests. Maybe you think it would be better if he just agreed with everyone that came on the programme. There is more anglaphobic rhetoric spewed from the likes of salmond (and the majority of scots in general to be honest) than there is from the english directed at the scots. I suppose it all stems from that big fat chip you carry around on your collective shoulder.

  • @PomingtonBear I'd appreciate if you could quote Alex Salmond on any "Anglophobic rhetoric".

  • I think you will find our first goverment after Scottish Devolution was a labour minority goverement, who had to form a coalition with the Liberal Democrats to be able to pass their legislation through.

The SNP so far ( as a minority goverment ) have achieved 2/3 of their objectives since 2007, they are well above target as they have half a term left.

  • How can you make that claim? It is a far more equal form of taxation than compared to council tax.

The point is, jalfrezee, that an independent Scotland will be a country with higher GDP growth than the UK. Additionally, we will provide more essential services free on our NHS and free tuition in universities - unlike the rest of the UK.

There is less than a year until the potential for Scotland to become independent. We can't let the unionist parties block the referendum! I'd march to London.

  • I know what you are saying, but your contradicting yourself. Of course it is directly proportional to the votes cast, that's why SNP have 1 seat more than Labour - the SNP had a small majority of votes.

Its not the truth of the matter - have you seen Labour's policies lately? And what about their 'policy' of just saying no to Anything, even though many organisations and charities support the minimum price per unit but he says no.

  • why do these guys go on his show, if they get ripped apart?

  • paxman won't let salmond talk, its so annoying. whats the point in an interview if he cant speak

  • making a comment and then giving your own comment plus 3 doesn't make it true

  • Salmond was an embarassment in this video. He couldn't even commit to his own election promises. The SNP are utter scum. Listen to this idiot and cringe. :-D

  • You really don't know politics. A minority government can't implelent huge changes on their own, thats obvious. Thats why he can't promise to keep everyone - because they can be stopped; look at the local income tax reforms - they got blocked, because other parties didn't support it YET it was the fairest way for Scotland to collect money for local authorities. Hmm makes you think where the other political party's loyalty lies - in the Union, not in the Scottish people.

  • You'll notice a significant difference in how the snp and labour representatives are treated on tv. Labour )who have the most to answer for) are allowed to spiel nonsense, whilst it's difficult for a nat to get a word in.

  • The more people see David Cairns on TV the more likely he is to lose his seat at the next election.

  • I thin you'll find the date was 7th July 2008.

  • Paxman showed clear bias. He allowed Cairns to finish his points but continually interrupted Salmond. The fact is the SNP is running a minority Government and cannot logically be expected to fulfill all its manifesto commitments since it needs to reach agreement with other parties. Furthermore Labour gave the SNP a very tight financial settlement and the unionists united to force through the expensive Edinburgh Trams project which reduced the money available to the SNP.

  • That's right. Let's bring trams into the arguement. Only unionists believe in trams. Yeah right!

As long as your beloved SNP are in power we might see the reintroduction of the horse and cart as our main mode of public transport.

  • As Paxman himself said, a First Minister should be treated with respect when he starts acting like he's in government and not opposition - refusing to debate by citing a largely unheard-of 'convention' is not statesmanship.

Nor is talking over the interviewer with the same meaningless response to a reasonable question, then using your own popularity as an excuse.

And Paxman didn't let Blair off with much either - "Do you pray together?"

  • I agree entirely.

  • PS Cairns total shocker @PMQs 'Salmond doesn't tell me anything, maybe its because Im an oik from a Greenock Housing Estate.'

Cry me a river Cairns. Trying to play Social Class over Nationalism. Naw. Clearly listening to your accent you've managed to remove all Greenock traces, which I'm sure is something which matters more to your Westminster collegues than it even bothers Salmond slightly.

  • Please explain what ''oiks'' from Greenock have done to upset you?

  • David Cairns refered to himself in such terms. New Labour apologist.

  • That's not what I asked you and I'm not New Labour apologist so don't change the subject. You know what you said was a total falsehood.

David Cairns doesn't represent every resident of Greenock. Disagree with him all you want but don't tar everybody from Greenock with the same brush.

One thing is for sure, your name describes you. You are indeed a nutter!

  • Hang on a second, I was not refering to you, I was to Mr Cairns. Falsehood? I think not.

He called himself that at Scottish questions. I am not tarring anyone from Greenock! He said that Alex Salmond wouldnt speak with him, and perhaps that was because he was 'an oik from a Greenock Housing Estate'

Cairns is the apologist, though I will accept yours when it arrives belatedly.

  • I would like to know where you got this information?

If he did say this about himself then he is a bigger eejit than I thought.

  • PWJ82

David Cairns MP made his "oik from a council estate in Greenock" statement at Scottish Questions in the House of Commons 09/07/08.

It is recorded in Hansard 09 July 2008 (pt 0001).

It was also picked up and reported by various commentators at the time.

  • Thanks Knapsack.

At least you have the decency to give me an answer unlike the nutter.

Unfortunately I don't have time to keep tabs on what goes on at Westminster.

Why did Cairns describe himself in that way? What a buffoon.

  • 5th Choice Curran -

    Cllr Ryan

    Steven Purcell

    Lesley Quinn

    Frank Pie Man Macaveety

    End 'choice'.....Nippy Curran.

  • Exactly right - treat our First minister with respect please hes not some second rate labour chancer.

  • I don't know who I like less David Cairns or Jeremy Paxman. Also, should a prime or First Minister not be treated with a little more respect? I don't remember Paxman ever talking to Tony B.Liar like that.

...AND... CURRAN WAS THE FOURTH CHOICE!!!

Labour-in-meltdown... how anyone in Glasgow East could vote for them would baffle me.
