Tamashi-Wari "Trial by Wood" (board-breaking) is done by various Martial Arts. Testing one's technique, focus, concentration, commitment, etc...

It's not the style that's effective...it's the individual. I was an accomplished street fighter for over 20 years befor ever earning my Black-Belt or becomming an Asst. Instructor. So theoretically a person could be a good fighter in any style or styles.

I not that "spiritual"...this may sound harsh or ruthless but, not everyone deserves to live...

wado ryu is one of the 4 main karate systems

-shotokan -goju ryu - shito ryu - wado ryu

besides them other good schools are -kyokushin

and -uichi ryu

these are all very good systems but 2 things will determine how good it is 1- the instructor 2- you

That's pretty bad ass...I always wanted to learn martial arts because I thought it would help improve my self esteem. Do you think that Karate is the best way to learn?

It depends if you interested in it. Besides self-discipine, self-esteem, self confidence...it'll teach you basic striking, punching, kicking, and and blocking...you can branch out from there.

for ex: my 10 yr old son Yoshi is a Black-Belt in our style Wado -Ryu Karate...this summer I putting him in the Pedoy school of Escrima (still continuing w/Karate). then ading Aikido when he turns 15...etc...

I've been training on and off since I was 13. Got back into Karate about 6 years ago when I started my youngest son Yoshi in Wado-Ryu Karate he was 4 then made his Black-belt just before he turned 9.

Proper breaks like this are clean...you use technique not brute force to break the boards.

you don't want to mangle the wood and hurt you hand or in this case your feet. plus you don't want a wedge of wood driving up your hand or feet...injuring yourself.
