  • Haha der staat TBC boven in het scherm tubercolose ofzo lol

  • *Salute* FOR MY COUNTRY

  • The original 16th century text was an acrostychon: the first letters of all 15 verses spelled "Willem van Nassou" (William of Nassau), short for "Wilhelmus van Nassouwe", also the first line of verse 1. The text is full of submission to God and revolt against Catholic Spain. The Low Countries had been at war with Spain for about 20 yrs and William of Nassau was their (symbolic) leader. The would last 80 yrs in total.

    Only verse 1 is used for official occasions and 6 and 14 for religious ones.

  • @aidavdbrake * The war would last 80 yrs in total. (In the Netherlands still referred to as "the 80-year war", de tachtigjarige oorlog.) Yeah, those were the days! ;-)

  • 1. Almighty Father, who for us thy Son didst give,

    That all men and women through his precious death might live,

    In mercy guard us, lest by sloth and selfish pride

    We cause to stumble those for whom the Saviour died.

    2. We are thy stewards; thine our talents, wisdom, skill;

    Our only glory that we will thy trust fulfil;

    That we thy pleasure in our neighbours' good pursue,

    If thou but workest in us both to will and do.

  • 3. On just and unjust thou thy care dost freely shower;

    Make us, thy children, free from greed and lust for power,

    Lest human justice, yoked with man's unequal laws,

    Oppress the needy and neglect the humble cause.

    4. Let not our worship blind us to the claims of love;

    But let thy manna lead us to the feast above,

    To seek the country which by faith we now possess,

    Where Christ, our treasure, reigns in peace and righteousness.

    Words by George Bradford Caird (1917-1984)

  • Might you post the text of hymn nr. 401 on this website? I can't find it in any of the standard resources (oremeus, cyerhymnal, etc)
