I was hooked on this show as a teen, I remember this was the season finale for the 2nd or 3rd season and they were sure they weren't going to get renewed so they decided they wanted to go out with a bang, as they put it. Then when it got renewed they just said everything that happened from then on was like two years before this episode.
when i heard "trust me,i know what im doing" i thought NO NO NO,it wont happen! *explodes* then i thought it was the end of the series, but when i heard "HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!!!!!" and saw "to be continued next season?" i was like "it isnt the end of the series? hell yeah!". i love this tv show as much as he loves his gun,it's like a law to watch it cause it's awesome
saw this one- a nuclear bomb in the coy pond can never be good- i love how he just picks it up - its so realistic, plus 80s workout outfit for the win
Great show, get smart/dirty harry. As cleverly written satiric dialouge as there was in the 80's on tv.Rasche was perfect, martin, page all perfectly cast.My fav line is when hammer is poisoned, and he says to capt.trunk...''i never thought i would go out like this capt.,i always thought i would live long enough to see a...nuclear war''
its remind me of "City Hunter" Manga. i like it 1st then this Sledge Hammer late night movie long time ago... i though on NEW season/Movie it would become a dream or some alternatif ending that the Inspector did not do that mistake and lives goes on....
This was pure genius. I remember they did thid since they had no idea if they were coming back. When they came back, they remedied the cliffhanger in a hilarious way. Sledge Hammer was too good for TV.
@acehighpat They just shifted the time period back 3 years, BUT left everything that happened up to the bomb detonating as canon. It was confusing and led to lots of people not coming back.
I remember watching this episode when i was a kid, it made me so sad thanking that it was the end, Why did it hafe to end it was such a good show Funny, Morals,Plot But It's nice to know that there's Dvd's Back to the old day's
This was the first season finale, and it seemed unlikley they'd get renewd, so they had this ending, which freaked me out as a child. The show WAS renewd for a second year, but ABC stupidly changed time slots. The second season opener just states that the series now takes place 3 years earlier, in a jab at the "Dallas" dream shower thing.Because of the time slot change, i thought the show was canceled, and didn't learn otherwise FOR TWENTY YEARS! Fucking long time to deal with a cliffhanger, eh?
The first episode of the second season starts with this scene and with a text "The following the season takes place five years prior to the explosion."
When he say Trust me I know what I'm doing, I figured he was going to screw up on the bomb thing. Great show. Sad there are no more funny shows like that on tv.
The first episode of the second season took place "5 years earlier", to make it look like nothing had happened. The "nuclear bomb" episode (season finale) aired in May, 1987. The SERIES finale aired in February , 1988. What a great show...even though it only lasted a season and a half. Oh well...I'm glad I have it on DVD.
Yeah . . . at that time it was great comedy. . .had me rolling on the ground and laughing. Nightcourt was another show that had me laughing. . . especially episodes which centered on Dan Fielding.
WTF! Hey is that one of NASA's Mercury space re-entry pod? Or is it just the most fuckin' light-weight nuke ever built? Prolly one of them many fake warheads built by the USSR at the time hehe.
The next episode, starting a new season, started with a clip from the nuclear bomb explosion, and then a notice saying something like "Four years previously....." and went into the new episode.
