I remember watching this documentary right after I watched Apocalypse Now. I was going through depression at the time and when I saw the film and the documentary, especially this part where Sheen just shows his devastation with no holds barred, it really struck a chord with me because it was just so raw. I completely empathized with him and it shocked me to see a person's inner darkness manifested so potently on camera.
Martin Sheen certainly gives an excellent performance in this classic late 70's film....but the role was originally given to Harvey Kietel. I don't know the exact reasons, but he left the production soon after filming had begun. It would have been fascinating to see what the gifted Mr Kietel would have done with the role. THANK YOU for sharing this intriguing clip with us!
You mean he didn't get an oscar??What the hell-he absolutely should have. We're just doing 'Apocalypse Now' in school, that scene really set the mood for the rest of the film. It was pretty hard to watch. Martin Sheen is fantatic, best acting I've seen in SO long.
Interesting video, and thought provoking video descriptor.
