  • USS Cod is on Cleveland, Ohio's lake front. Check spring/summer/fall hours for visitors.

  • USS Cod is the most authentic of 20 or so submarine memorials/museums in the USA. Going down and up hatches' vertical ladders is how these submariners did it. If you visit Cod, check the Martini glass on its sail. Or go to Cod's website, check the only international sub-to-sub rescue -- Cod's rescue of Dutch 0-19 crew, then sinking this sub so Japan wouldn't get hold of it.

  • hooyah.

  • There is an incomprehensible omission in this series. Episodes are devoted to the American, German and Japanese submarine services. What of the Royal Navy? There is mention of the X-craft in the episode on clandestine operations, but even then the exploits of Naismith`s E11 in WW1 are not mentioned. E11 is significant because it was the first submarine to carry out a clandestine operation, when the XO went ashore overnight to blow up key targets with charges. Ep on RN Sub Branch Please.

  • @steadynumber1 Didn't you know? America saves the day every time!

  • @hdmccart you'd like to think that wouldnt you ...

  • This was almost identical to an incident with the USS Darter and Dace.

  • Been onboard her and the sub in Pearl Harbor. Great sailors, Great Service and Great Navy!

  • I served on subs for 6 years (USS Stonewall Jackson SSBN 634 and USS Columbus SSN 762). Found this series interesting and brought back a lot of memories. Thanks for posting.

  • For those of you who care. The Japs didn't like to play fair so they would transport POWs in unmarked freighters. Sadly a few were sunk. Because they were American POWs quite a few survived to tell the horror stories of life as a POW of the JAPS. They gave up the military way of life faster than the Germans. I lived in Japan in the early 80s. There were many WW II survivers glad to tell of the horrors of living under the military heel. Stories that made the A-bomb light work after fire bombing

  • Didn't I hear it, or is it really not specified in this documentary how many japanese seamen were killed by US submarines ? That would explain the suggested pride and honesty. Always the same ! It´s pretty non-informative propaganda boredom. After down-estimating the anglo-american losses through german submarines, there must have been about 6000 japanese mariners killed by US submarines. I also read that about 3500 US submariners were killed in action.

  • I really enjoyed this series.

Thanks very much for the upload.

    Favourited youtuber.

  • @LTinvasion war is how we keep peace, to have fun as you say. if it wernt for war we wouldnt have the technology we have today.

  • I can't find any videos or photos of the dutch 0-19 anywhere. Anyone know where I can find some?

  • @TyLiermann

There are some pics on the wikipedia entrances of USS Cod and O-19. Your problem may result from the fact that it's not, as stated in the program, "0 (Zero)-19" but "O(Oscar)-19"

    Good hunting :)

  • амерекосы хороши когда их это не касается!!! А когда каснётся россия порвёт вам очко вместе со всеми стереотипами_)

  • @MrVarvarochek

    желательно

    при нынешней власти --сомневаюсь шибко

  • Nice series - VERY well done! As a former submariner myself - USS JAMES MADISON (SSBN 627) Blue Crew & USS GRAYLING (SSN 646) - watching this made me very proud. I very hightly recommend to anyone passing near Groton, CT to visit the Nautilus submarine museum!! May God bless all U.S. submariners who made the ultimate sacrifice and who are to this day on eternal patrol!

  • Splendid. Good work. The Pacific war would have gone on much longer but for our Silent Service. If only our culture, in the last 64 years, had demonstrated that it deserved heroes such as these. Alas!

  • Hey, that Dutch submarine, it's British Porpoise Class submarine right?

  • Nope, that dutch submarine was designed by the dutch engineer G. van Rooy, and built at the Wilton-Fijenoord in Schiedam, the Netherlands.

  • Excellent story. My Dad was the COB on the Sirago. God bless these guys!

  • why would you want it any other way

if i wanted to see stairs i would stay home, The USS Batifsh is the same way, i first saw it when i was a kid with my dad retired Naval Pilot, It was the first museum piece that i ever seen untainted, I hope to be able to take my sons there soon. It was why i join the navy. you can see it and other subs on this site and links from this site.

  • My uncle was on the U.S.S. Argonaut. Unfortunately he did not make it. The sub was sunk by depth charges. I never knew him, but my mom named me after him. It was her only sibling. He was 19. R.I.P.

  • My Sainted DAD was a Submariner, he was on the U.S.S. Snapper. I thank you from a VERY broad scope.

  • Great series. Very interesting learning more about the evolution of U.S. naval warfare in WWII. Also, very interesting learning about the Confederate Captain Rafael Semmes. Thanks for posting these videos!

  • The USS Cod can be boarded but they don't make it easy for visitors. You have to enter through the aft hatch and exit forward without any kind of public stairs. You enter as the crew would.

  • @raridan1 Good, thats how it should be. at least it gives you a proper feel of the experience.

We had the U534 on display in the uk, they butchered it up into sections with windows to look throughrather than let you walk through it and get the feel for the boat.

    A complete and utter crime.

  • @raridan1 What city?
