Weak vid. Marriage is not about who makes you horny. It's about supporting families with tax breaks, which is why the term can never be applied to homo couplings. And don't give some corny, dishonest spiel about homos and artificial insemination as it is a tiny fraction of the population needed to keep a country stable. Adoption doesn't produce new life either, so that's out. Immigration is also out, as it doesn't keep society stable, quite the opposite.
@bookteafun True, it's about being in a committed binding relationship with the person you love.
It's not about supporting families with tax breaks. Well, l deplore your perspective, 1) because it's so incorrect, and 2) because it's full of ignorance.
Gays can have families, just like straight people, and studies show that children in a family with same sex parents, have no more or less success than those in families with straight parents, and straight people adopt, so don't give me that.
fighting for gay marriage is like a fight that will never end.. the straight people are alwayz against our beliefs and all there here to do is hate and discriminate on us like we are not human beings, ppl take this who bible thing seriously and for sum reason like Airportchris2 said in his video if u believe heavily in one thing in the bible back every otha thing.
The state is not there to issue love licenses. this is why its not a civil right in the first place
gays are not animals or robots. they have freewill and even if they didn't have freewill it still would not justify labeling their relationship something that its clearly not because it is biologically impossible for same sex couples to procreate and rear-children NATURALLY. its not about being straight or gay to be able to enter the institution. its about whether you can help society as a whole
All marriage is right now, basically, is a contract with the state, a little certificate that the government recognizes as to people being married.
Well gays are just as productive in society as any other people, not being able to have children naturally, is no different than infertile parents not being able to have children naturally.
Marriage should based on 2 peoples love for each other, after all, isn't that what a marriage is supposed to be, a joining of 2 loving consenting adults?
this is the is/ought fallacy by David Hume. just because there are situations like infertile couples does not prove we ought to have gay marriage.
besides, allowing infertile couples to get married does not change the definition of marriage. you are still PROMOTING the same product by design. if a computer comes out broken, do we stop calling it a computer
NO!!!!! if we were talking about civil unions, then you would have an argument but thats just not the case here.
First off, marriage isn't about fertility of a couple, it's about the love between 2 people, it's the milestone of a relationship, taking a loving relationship to the next level.
The definition of marriage has already been changed, before race was an issue, now it's ok, the same thing is occurring among sexuality.
Well, one girls put forth the idea, that everyone has a civil union w/ same exact rights as in a marriage, and then those people that want to get the title of "marriage," they can.
the issue on the table is CIVIL marriage not religious marriage. It does not matter what the couples end up doing with the marriage license; we are talking about the states perspective here. The reproductive potential or POSSIBILITY of opposite-sex couples is assumed at a general level and is not investigated in individual cases. To do otherwise would not only be a serious and unjustifiable breach of privacy but it would take the unnecessary spending of money and resources to accomplish
As if the government doesn't already spend enough money, which it really doesn't have.
Well, I think everyone should be able to get married, period, now if they want a religious marriage fine, but as far as marriage goes, I think everyone is entitled to one, besides church weddings are becoming far and fewer between as church weddings are expensive, the planning, and time that needs to be put into it, most people just opt to have a quick backyard wedding, or a courthouse deal.
first off, it is on the law books that civil marriage is about promoting procreation and child rearing
second, i encourage you to type in "Alan Keye's argument" and watch the video where Alan answers and refutes these type of arguments about infertile couples, then come back so i can finish you off
experts do say europe is getting worse after gay marriage. More people are having children out of wedlock, even though marriage is the best setting for successfully raising a child.
@kenballer00 dude, 38% of all children born in the US in 2006 were born to unwed mothers! And I see you have taken the time to find a response on the "heritage site".
Those numbers are for only the Netherlands besides which those researchers added to their research..."there is as yet no definite scientific evidence to suggest that the long campaign for the legalization of same sex marriage contributed to these harmful trends".
The term "harmful" already suggests where these guys are coming from btw. And still divorce rate is significantly lower in Holland and so are the rates for teenage pregnancy, abortion, rape, homicide and poverty. You have got to be kidding me if you are trying to use the Netherlands as an example of the downfall of society as compared to the US at present without gay marriage.
@kenballer00 Especially hilarious since I am in fact Dutch and know full well that the vast majority of those children born "out of wedlock" are actually born into relationships that are for ALL intents and purposes exactly like the married ones. All they lack is a piece of paper.
@kenballer00 Or are you referring to the "experts" from whom you got those quotes? The ones mentioned in the courtcase? Because those come from an open letter written by 5 guys in the most christian Dutch newpaper. They are not talking specific scientific research but in fact their personal "christian" fears and predictions.
Over the past fifteen years, the number of marriages has declined substantially, both in absolute and in relative terms. In 1990, 95,000 marriages were solemnized (6.4 marriages per 1,000 inhabitants); by 2003, this number had dropped to 82,000 (5.1 marriages per 1,000 inhabitants).
This same period also witnessed a spectacular rise in the number of illegitimate births. In 1989 one in ten children were born out of wedlock (11 percent); by 2003, that number had risen to almost one in three (31 percent). The number of never-married people grew by more than 850,000, from 6.46 million in 1990 to 7.32 million in 2003.
@kenballer00 AND I am STILL waiting to hear you explain what are gay, female, white "lifestyles" as well as whether you believe the law should be amended to prohibit marriage by infertile folks?
@kenballer00 And btw that number of never been married. What is that supposed to tell us? The entire Dutch population is 15 million .
It is an entirely meaningless somewhat hysterical stat. No scratch that...it does have meaning...it shows how this is an entirely unscientific, personal and religious fear fueled letter!
Just because someone has a degree doesn't mean he is free of bias dude.
Agreed, since the government is currently in control of who can and can't get married with influences from religious folk, marriage isn't a civil right, as civil and political rights are a class of rights and freedoms that protect individuals from unwarranted government action and ensure one's ability to participate in the civil and political life of the state without discrimination or repression.
I would find it hard to claim that every infertile couple is incapable of helping society. If anything, there probably should be more of them. Even if they can't have children naturally, just the pressure towards monogomy and responsibility that marriage brings would be helpful ... and thats still aside my confusion over the goals of all these anti-gay laws. I can't see almost forced couplings based only on firtility to be good on the couple, the children, or society ...
Certainly, we all deserve an equal chance, and we all deserve to have the same rights recognized, we all have the same rights, we just don't have certain rights recognized for certain groups of people.
Funny thing; the Bible never actually stated being Gay was wrong, it just said "Pro creation" is between a man and a woman...
People are stupid.

@kenballer00 Divorce rate Netherlands 1.91 (2004)
The US 3.6(2008)
In 1994 195.611 children were born, 27.899 outside of marriage.
1994 unmarried people living together 1.012,000, of those 924.000 were living with their children.
In 2001, the Netherlands became the first nation to grant same-sex marriages.
Yeah dude, obviously gay marriage is to blame for less marriages and all those children born "out of wedlock" 2!!! years later.
Try again kid!
