Ok, what Matt is doing is GREAT. I know alot of people go to church. But alot of people don't like it because they can't relate to it. Matt is trying to make it to where Teenagers have fun while worshiping God. All of his worship songs are christian songs. They are not just rap. Matt is an amazing person You can definantly feel god's presence in there. Everyone should deffinantly go and see Matt. He is AMAZING. I know him personally
I was in a depression and my dad told me I had nothing to be depressed about, and that Jesus would satisfy all my longing; that changed my life. This just looks like a big concert where you can get emotionally charged.
the basement is not a big concert its like church in a way that teens can relate to it teens dont like sitting in some next to their parents doing nothing for hours but listening to their pastor preach thats why we have the basement all of the music is christian music not just rap and crap it really is a fun exciting godly place
I go to the basement every week and it is so awesome! I have been going to church my whole life but I have never walked into a service and felt Gods presence like I do there every week! Matt Pitt is an amazing preacher and you can tell he is so on fire for the Lord! Anyone in the area should definately come! Me and my friends drive an hour every week and it is always worth it!
the night he preached @ Sonfest i was blessed and something changed in me that night, i will never be able to thank God enough for sending him my way.If you have never heard Matt preach or been to the basement you shouldn't make biased comments about something YOU HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED YOURSELF!!!
OK 1st of all Matt Pitt and his crew are doing exactly what God wants all of us to do,Preach Gods word and share the love of Jesus with people.Jesus told us to go into ALL the world and not to care about what people look or act like, but only that Jesus' love is shared!MATT IS A TRUE MAN OF GOD!!
i think th@ the basement and matt pitt are filled with the spirit and are in God's will. we are in the last days and we need 2 get over religious do's and dont's and not hide behind a pulpit and go out to the world and reach as many 4 Christ as possible and if it takes loud music and flashing lights and a relaxed atmosphere to reach them then so b it! America is going done hill and we as Christians need to come out of the closet and lay aside the "laws" of religion and b all th@ God has 4 us!!!
ok i am SICK with some of the comments made on this vidio!!! i just got back from Sonfest 08 and Matt Pitt preached there the first night and i felt and experienced the presence of God stronger than any other nigh. it is disgusting at the comments that have been made and they are not to Christian and very judgemental, who are you to say that the Basement and Matt Pitt are not reaching people and that. i think that this is an AWESOME MINISTRY and that it is changing the life of countles teens !

okay look 96, Most people come there for fun& for worship & then on sunday they go to church& HOW DARE YOU say that i think alot of people have been saved by the basement rather than by God & those people will burn in hell excuss me but you have NO RIGHT to say that & i must say that as long as we are going there to worship & love jesus then it dosent matter how or where we all get to know jesus just as long as we do
Basically, the biggest problems with the basement are: Poor Theology throughout and (perhaps the biggest problem) when most of the kids leave, they say things like, "Man, that place was awesome!" or "Matt's message was great!" What you don't hear them saying when they leave is, "GOD is all satisfying! He is all I need! He is my ever present help in trouble! I was radically depraved and now I am covered by the righteousness of Christ through his death on the cross because of my sin."
But hey, at least they're on fire and not doing drugs or drinking. Let me ask you, which is worse: a teenager who is mad at God and the church and knows for a fact he isn't saved and acts like it. Or someone who isn't saved, but fools himself into thinking he is because he goes to this church basement thing and sings, dances, yells and gives up drinking?
Hey man, I dont know what your problem is. The basement is in my opinion a social club, and a "hang out" for most youth these days. But isnt that what most churches are these days? I think the basements theology goes as deep as the kids there want it to go. The lost are overcome by what may be emotion and not the Holy Spirit, but that emotion leads them to make moral decisions that ultimately creates a yearning for Christ.
And the basement constantly wants to get the kids involved with a biblically sound small group during the week. That's where they can grow and mature spiritually. God's will is there, but it's up to the other believers (not Matt Pitt) to walk into it, and help there fellow Christians.
That's the best thing anyone has said. Thank you. My only problem is your idea that changing morality will eventually change someone's heart. Biblically we must be changed from the inside out. You're totally right about other believers stepping in and discipling new Christians. Thanks for your post, brother!
The basement is a good place to get saved, or "saved." You shouldnt dislike and disprove of something that is a tool for evangelism. It's Gods will that all are saved through the sacrifice of Christ. Matt Pitt knows that, but he's not relaying to his audience what he thinks because, well he's not a great minister. But because he's so influential, no one even questions his message or motives, and he's "on fire" for God.
If everyone will realize, it's not your mannerisms that save you, it's your sincere repentance and faith to Christ. God gave us a free will to make our decision of salvation, but it's through our intellect of God's will through his word and other believers that we make that decision. Don't hate the basement, hate the vagueness of the message.
Yea Yea, who cares about theology. Christianity needs to be more about your personal relationship with Jesus Christ... I've never been to the basement but I have seen videos and Ive heard Matt Pitt preach when he was in Texas. He's one of the most annointed preachers I've ever seen. And just from watching the videos you can see the how the spirit of God just moves through him and that whole buiding!
I've already pointed out what isn't biblical. And if you are saved you will have eternal life with God. I think a lot of people have been saved by the basement rather than by Go and those people will burn in hell for eternity. And I criticize the modern American church often. And if God is not concerned with how we do it, why has he given us guidelines in scripture for how to do it?
My experience at the basement. 1) I saw the church copying the culture when it should be creating the culture. 2)I saw 4000 people go insane and crazy because some guy with about 8 lbs. of hair gel walked up on the stage. 2) I saw dramas which were full of heretical doctrine (i.e. demons crucifying Jesus, and Jesus coming off of his own cross.) 4) I sat through a 45 min. sermon and was not once asked to open the Bible.
I minister across the country and alot of times we dont ask young adults to open their bibles because alot of our crowd is lost and dont have bibles and the ones that do when you take their eyes off the stage and the point you making you lose them
So, people don't have Bibles. Put the text you are preaching from on a screen or something. Oh wait. Matt Pitt doesn't preach from a text. He just talks and yells and spits for a while and then abuses a portion of a verse to "back up his point." That is a very poor way to accurately teach the scriptures. "So then, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." Rom. 10:17
I apologize. That should have read, "Also, I think it's sad that you would try to divert someone's eyes from the scripture just so he can hear you point."
I do not divert their eyes with young people you preach topical because that is what they are going through and you use scripture to back your point....We use screens also the bible NEVER TELLS US TO JUDGE ANYONE...
i have one question for you... have you ever been to the basement??? have you ever experienced an atomosphere where 5,000 teenagers in one place worship god with all their heart... they may do it in a different way than what some people might be used to... but they are on fire with god... they could be out on drugs or dinking... God is in everything in the basement... matt is spiritually solid... before you judge something go experience it for yourself...
Wow. Of course I've been there. I wouldn't make these judgments without going first. And you know what? Matt Pitt may have pure motives and a good heart. I don't know him, but that is what a good friend of mine says. I've said what needs to be said about the basement. Maybe you should read all my other posts before you judge my last comment.
"Or how can you say, to your brother, 'let me remove the speck from your eye'; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! [pay careful attention to this part] First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." Matthew 7:4-5
I was sitting in my ministry skill class the other day and our professor asked us what we felt was the best form of preaching. About 97% of the class said expository. Their reasoning was because they got to college and heard good expository preaching. They all said that if they had experienced this in their youth they would be much closer to God and on a much higher plain spiritually than they are now.
What is possiably non-biblical about the basement... Are you telling me that the ones saved through them will not make heaven or are you saying when matt passes away God will tell him good job doing my work but you did it wrong NO God will say look at what you did for me.. WE CANNOT BE PERFECT.. We Do What God Has Called Us To DO
I believe God is not so much concerned how we do it as long as have the right heart so much as he is concerned that WE DO IT. If you need to critisize most churches in america that are so complacent they arent doing anything Matt is trying to make a difference!
And your wrong people who are saved will recognize he changed the song and and be wow that was cool and the ones who are lost will like the song and draw them in and then they will hear a message that might change their life!
I'm not judging God. I'm judging my Christina brothers and sisters (which is what we are called to do in Matthew 7). I didn't say people weren't being reached (although I think more people have been drawn to the basement rather than to Christ). I would dare say that some people have been changed by God, and have been indwelt with the Holy Spirit. However, God often takes things that are bad and uses them for good, for His glory.
goodness sorry we couldnt bury the guy in the drama and wait 3 days wat u say is unfounded in religion. if you cant convert culture music or anything else then how do you expect to be saved.
@mmdc2015 But their not conforming to the patterns of this world..... How is taking a beat that is popular to alot of people and putting lyrics about Jesus in it conforming to the patterns of this world? That is very clever.
We have tried the liberal way of reaching out to young people with no dramatic effect and I know God himslef would reach the lost any way possiable Some people may not ocme into listen to worship music because they are LOST!!! But if they will come listen to rap or rock with a message then that is what it takes and you are right the bible says for us to be extraordinary people and that is exactly what this is it is out of the ordinary there is no church anywhere doing.
Musical preference has nothing to do with it! If you like rap, go to a rap show! Since there aren't any venues here that regularly have Christian rappers, why not start instead of this. And for creativity's sake, write your own songs! Don't just get some other person's song and change a few words here and there! You rarely hear people say, "Those Christians are so clever! Did you hear how they changed the words to "if you repin Jesus Christ, then let me know? What amazing creative talent!"
I am very happy Matt has got clean but he needs to really seek God's face about what he is doing with the "basement". God is a Holy God, He is pure, He is all forgiving yes but Jesus said "come out from the world" (the world's ways) and be ye seperate" . We are not to act like the world acts and to be in the world's music. There is true worship and once you have been in true, pure worship you know it and you will never be the same again.
If Matt is being used by God in the basement then AMEN and coming from a minister there is nothing wrong with that.
