That was absolutely magnificent Ralph, you started when there was just some light left in the sky, and picking up the firebox glow as she climbed the gradient....evocative and a 10.10 from me...bob
@robmasterman Thanks Bob, I had taken my camera two weeks ago, but that was wet and horrible and no light at all, last week I was not aboard, so this was the last chance. That glow was what i was aiming for, gives a good insight into the amount of firing being done and it is noticable that he stopped quite a bit before we reached the tunnel..
Cracking stuff Ralph. I've posted a video response that ties in with this clip but apologies in advance as my camcorder isn't as light sensitive as yours appears (?) to be, as I was filming into a deep cutting, and my footage is rather dark as a result. But enjoy the sound anyway. I was hoping for some of those magical firebox flashes that you caught so well too but it was not to be.
@LMSStanier Looking down into the cutting will be darker, I had the advantage of the lighter sky at the top of my shot. I don't know what camera you have but mine is several years old but when I was buying one of the points I looked for was the low light capability.
Just what the doctor ordered Ralph if you could bottle that sound and I presume smell of steam on board you could make a bob or two. Thanks for posting and taking the time to share.
@981smithy Thanks Phil, I thought that the light would just be sufficient, not much to see at ground level but with the light sky the exhaust showed up well and the firebox light a real extra. Not sure if you could sell the bombardment of fine hot ash though... The microphone 'dead rat' really suffers...
Always was a good pull that < I used to live in Huddersfield and regular came back from Manchester on the Steam Trains. Plenty on Slaithwaite station ,
@howarth004 Thanks, that and Marsden certainly get the effects as no doubt her progress on a fairly quiet evening can be heard long before she came into view.
always a pleasure to watch 5mins of flat out steaming, no wind noise is a bonus, Slathwaite had quite a gallery, those new LED signals certainly light up the coaches, enjoyed that, cheers, PM on way.
@noelist Thanks Leon, tose LED signals are unmissable, what a change from oil lamps... 6201 never fails to come up with the show. The final sprint from Wilmslow to crewe was also taken 'briskly'.
Great stuff Ralph with super firebox reflections.

Cracking onboard footage Ralph, you cant go far wrong with a Stanier pacific going like the clappers on a hard climb and making it look easy . Steve
