George sets himself up for tokenism. He has only himself to blame.

Notice how he fawns over whitey to his face, so he can advance his station in life. To gain social standing, he needs white clout. so, as the quintessential opportunist, he "lathers-'n'-strokes" those deemed important to enable him to "move on up".

Behind whitey's back George speaks some of the foulest vitriol about him. He's also confrontational when whitey fails to esteem blacks as George thinks he deserves.
