  • I don't believe I still cry while listening to this!

  • jjjaaaabbbbuuuulllllaaaaannnnniiiiiii *bass*

  • " N I C E "...

  • i love this song

  • PJ Powers was awesome in the 80's. She bridged the gap between black and white in a South Africa that was so divided. Even in those days of turmoil we could still say Jabulani.

  • This song reflects The beauty of Africa!!! When ever i watch i'm proud of being an African!

  • One unique thing abt Africa is that we dont have much but we are always happy! You are sure of seeing these unique smiles on streets and this is lovely

  • Love it, great post. Thanks

  • Great song.

  • @mbuyachikonamombe , have u come across any of Ricardo and friends albums or the venda kids

  • Lovely music. Reminds me of a radio programme years ago here in Kenya known as "Jabhulani", and this was their theme song. It was a Saturday programme that exclusively played SA music. I love PJ Powers!

  • Jabulani means "Happiness" or "Place of Happiness", since there is a township in Soweto with that name. Jabula means Happy in Xhosa.

    It a pleasure...

  • Great video....thanks for sharing...love p>J Powers...

  • dont worry be happy, PJ powers you remind me of the 80's when family was still genuine family

  • @thwalam1

"When family was family". You can say that again. Everything was real. Love too. Not like today when everything is just about material stuff. Music too. I mean, would you ever hear the likes of PJ Powers sing about the money/cars that they had? I love PJ Powers so much.

  • Who will agree.

  • This song really rock and It makes me Miss Africa ....Mother Land ...**tears**

  • @MsKasox JABULANI JABULANI However and forever I was born in MOZambique BUT i dont forget my roots of african Beautiful

  • Powers, PJ (Penelope Jane Dunlop) (South Africa)

BORN in DURBAN in 1960, PJ Powers made her debut as a vocalist with the all-girl group “Pantha" in 1979. She then fronted the rock group “Hotline" from 1980 through to 1987, when she launched her solo career.

One of South Africa’s most consistent and consummate performers, PJ Powers has recorded over 16 albums, and has maintained a high profile presence both as recording artist and as a live perfomer for over twenty years.

  • proud of you pen xx

  • This is an amazing song. It gives me chills and makes me proud to be African. Can someone tell me how to get it on my Iphone?

  • Songs that make me be proud to South African

  • Sounds funny to me to hear a female sing this. George used to sing this himself with Wozani in the UK in the mid 80's (with Graham Clifford - Guitars, Georg Voros - Drums, Rob Davies - Keys, Rob Price - Bass and a saxaphone player I cannot for the life of me remember the name of). Used to go and see them pretty much every week around the Leeds area, most notably the Harvesters in Bramley. Great days

  • @yesheadjon yes he sang it well, i was the landlord at the harvesters at the time

  • @48chadders I am guessing that you are Phil then. Had some great nights at the Harvester seeing both the full band and George and Graham on their own (well when Graham could keep his trousers on). I was/am good friends with George Voros, his daughter was a bridesmaid at my wedding and Graham and I used to play squash. Really miss those days, don't miss the Stellar hangovers though. Oh yes and it was Dave Lazenby on sax.

  • I want the jabulani really bad but I don't know the Facts bout it..can some one please tell me the pros and cons about it..and is it worth the money? Please help!

  • great song this, do you know where i can buy/get 'there is an answer" and would anyone remember this song called 'Daddy?" and also 'Mbaqanqa jive is our African dance, something like that

  • @mbuyachikonamombe You're probably thinking of "I Love You Daddy@ by Ricardo and Friends. I'm not sure about the the other song. It could be Mbaqanqa (or Kazet), by the Mahlatini and the Mahotella Queens.

  • i love the soong rythmics it takes me on

  • Yep, Jabulani means "Happiness" (in South African Xhosa/Zulu). The song was actually composed around a great experience we had as a group playing at Jabulani Stadium in Soweto in the apartheid 1980's. Composed by Hotline bass player George van Dyk. Regards Ron "Bones" Brettell - Hotlne keyboard player

  • I really like this.Proud to be African.

  • my name is jabulani and it means happiness ppl...luv it

  • the name of this song is what I want to name my first child

  • it means happy

  • Jabulani means happy

  • To Creator. Jabulani Means To Celebrate

  • @CindyPentz.

Thank u...its amazing hw americans are jst happy and proud of their ignorance...i liv in Malaysia and they are the same..they think Africa is one big country-im from Botswana(Speak Setswana) and they expect me to understand what Nigerians or Zimbabweans r saying...they alwys say isnt he speaking in African...so in my response i ask them to speak wit the Japanese in 'ASIAN"!!!

  • I live in Canada and I had a woman argue with me last week because of some pictures sent by some 'missionaries' in Africa!I told her that I really didnt identify with the life coz I dont have a rural home -granddad migrated from Durban to Byo. I showed her pictures of where I come from and she had the nerve to say 'that is not Africa that is Palm Springs' (she has never left Canada btw lol) She said that is not what TV showed her. She is in her early 40's. SMH @ blissful ignorance or is it??

  • @FikiNom LOL! When I was in Canada, we had a sign that said "Proudly South African". A Canadian girl asked: "WHAT is South Africa?" Not WHERE....but WHAT!!! LOL! We were like...err...it's our COUNTRY! tee hee!

  • great video.

  • Be jabulani pliz alot of memories about this song! LOL!

  • my name is jabulani it means be happy in south african

  • Not SOUTH AFRICAN....the language is ZULU! We have 11 Languages and none of them is known as SOUTH AFRICAN

  • @CindyPentz so which of these 11 languages does my name (jabulani) fall under could you tell me?

  • @jabulaniful1 I have travelled to a few countries (and all over the USA) and I can't stand when people tell me to say something in "South African". There is no language called "South African"! THAT was my point. We have 11 languages so SPECIFY which one! That is WHY each language has a NAME...so that you can be specific. If u dont know, they also called the FIFA World Cup Soccer ball "Jabulani". Once again...ZULU...ZULU...ZULU. Hope you understand now.

  • @jabulaniful1 Just for your information... South Africa's 11 official languages are as follows: Afrikaans English IsiNdebele (Ndebele) IsiXhosa (Xhosa) IsiZulu (Zulu) Northern Sotho (Sepedi) Sesotho (Southern Sotho) Setswana (Tswana) SiSwati (Swati) Tshivenda (Venda) Xitsonga (Tsonga) Hope this helps to make my point CLEAR.
  • @CindyPentz Im not interested in you making your point im trying to gain knowledge but thanks for the names of the languages and that negativity is bad for your health i hope you find someone or thing to help with your anger ive never traveled all those places just to prisons and i believe im more a peace with myself than you i hope you find jabulani

  • @jabulaniful1 I'm not negative...I'm just tired of people being so ignorant. When I was in the USA and Canada, the people that I talked to would ask me: "Is South Africa in Africa?". I mean...COME ON! You have to admit....that is LAME! As for YOU...why do you ask me what Jabulani means? YOU SHOULD KNOW! Open your mind to some education and quit being so ignorant. Nobody knows about South Africa if they haven't LIVED there.

  • @jabulaniful1 the easiest way to gain knowledge is.....GOOGLE it ;)

I am sorry if I came across as "short: or abrupt. But after 3 years in the States and Canada, I'm just tired of people referring to a language as "South African". I wish people would take the time to LEARN instead of sticking in their "comfort zones". Get up...get moving...learn....experience and LIVE. :) I am at complete peace with myself thank you and no problems with ANGER. Just wish people were more educated.

  • @CindyPentz

Right on bruur!! Way to go. By the way i encounter the same situation too. I tell them i speak south african tswana. They have to learn to google and learn. But i also advise them to avoid negative stories or news about SA as they will deviate them from factual learning.

  • @MrAutlwetse I live in Romania now and the people here are at least more educated than those in the USA. At least they KNOW where South Africa is....and they even know cities like Joburg and Cape Town! I was impressed. They aren't so narrow minded. When they ask me about SA, I tell the truth - the good with the bad. I'm a realist - hope for the best but prepare for the worst. ;) Are you still living in SA by the way? Just curious :) Take care.

  • How is Romania? Are you enjoying it?

  • Hey! Loving it here so far. :) It's so nice being able to walk down the street at night without worrying about getting raped, robbed or murdered. I live in the heart of the city itself and it's so safe. There was a survey that concluded that Romania is safer than countries like France! I was amazed but not surprised. Of course I miss my family and friends, but I cannot deny that I have a wonderful life here. A life that I feel safe raising a family. Which is more than I can say for SA :(

  • @CindyPentz comeon now lady romanians themsleve immigrate to western europe in masses, SA is not perfect but it definately has a stronger economy than romania, why not canada, aus, uk ,usa any but but poor romania

  • @tirelo Actually the Romanian Lei is twice as strong as the SA Rand! HA HA HA! And if the economy was SO bad...then why do I get to sit at home and I don't have to work. Not like in SA where I worked my butt off! And in America and in Canada the same! Been there...done that! Now my man is taking care of me and I'm LOVING it! Anyway, I would rather have a family here than in SA because SA is just too dangerous. Romania IS safer. No, not PERFECT but safer at least.

  • you dont judge economy by currency cindy, japan is the 2nd biggest economy but their yen is weakened to boost output, and to SAY THAT YOU DONT WORK & ARE ENJOYING IT is sad, every coutry needs its citizens to contribute, stop looking for free meals & get off your bum at least contribute to ROMANIA in return of things it provides for ya

  • @tirelo I've been working since I was 12 so don't preach to me ok! I contributed to South Africa that did FUCK ALL for me. America did more for me than South Africa ever did! And I don't HAVE to work if I don't want to. Not that it's YOUR business but my husband and I want kids and he wants me to stay with them and NOT pay sum other person to look after our babies! Anyway, ROMANIA does not give me anything...my husband does. You are so naive.

  • @tirelo and i was just trying to explain to you that romania is NOT so poor. you have never been here so you wouldn't know. just like people have misconceptions regarding South Africa...so, you too, have misconceptions regarding Romania. You don't know about their country, culture and language so please don't talk about something that you know nothing about. I think I know better than you since I have traveled and I live in Romania now.

  • @CindyPentz

    do you speak Afrikaan?

  • @WacheniUshenzi Yes I do speak Afrikaans. I also studied Xhosa in school but I had nobody to talk to so I've forgotten a LOT :( I hope to refresh my Xhosa once I master Romanian a little better :)

  • ok cindy obviously we share different views on everything so lets just leave it at that, but why would you come on a positive south african song and be negative about SA, some of us listen to these songs and watch these videos to celebrate SA, if you wanna post negative comments then do it on a romanian song or upload your own negative SA video.

  • @tirelo Let me just say in closing then that YOU started this debate by saying that Romania is poor etc. You started the negativity against my new home so I was just defending myself. You stay in SA and be happy there because I sure as hell will NEVER go back and neither will the rest of my family. Esp with Zuma as "president". I'm just so sick of politics...so...whatever. And anyway, AFRIKAANS music is way better than PJ Powers. It has more meaning and a better beat ;)

  • you misquoting me cindy, i quoted that SA has a stronger economy than SA, never said romania is poor,

  • @tirelo YOU DONT EVEN REMEMBER WHAT YOU WROTE! Here...let me QUOTE you: "tirelo @CindyPentz comeon now lady romanians themsleve immigrate to western europe in masses, SA is not perfect but it definately has a stronger economy than romania, why not canada, aus, uk ,usa any but but poor romania"

That IS a quote...I copied and pasted what you wrote previously.

  • @CindyPentz thats very true. facts.

  • Comment removed

  • That is what they are actually interested in and I am also feeling Cindy because I live it day in and day out. My classmates know me by now tho...they know not to come with that 'Africa' shit. Africa is wide I am Zimbabwean that speaks a lot of Bantu languages. Recognise! And so they do. It's just a shame that you have to be so harsh about it most times coz ppl r so lazy...google is your friend...it translates too! Dang!

  • @FikiNom There are so many reports on the news in the USA regarding DIFFERENT countries in Africa. You would think that Americans would know the difference by now. CNN has a broadcast called Inside Africa...so you would expect their population to be a little more educated. Then again, take a look at the clip of Miss Teen South Carolina 2007 and I REST MY CASE!

  • Get over yourself!! Do u expect everyone to be completely informed about SA?

How many people know there is no Chinese language. In other words Chinese people do NOT speak Chinese. And that is a larger world player than SA.

BTW, I was born in SA and am more than happy to be out of it, and Africa. When people ask me questions, I answer as best as I can without speaking down to them, as u seem to do.

  • lol yeah right

  • classic love it, jabulani peeps

  • @iTheDefinition

whats Jabulani...i danced to this song when i was a kid. translate please.

  • @WacheniUshenzi, cindy is not the right mtu to ask such a question because she is bent on believing that, PJ while singing in Xhosa or Zulu is making meaningless songs. She studied Xhosa but lacked someone to talk with in SA ; isn't it ridiculous? may be she will find one in Rumanian. Am yet to meet a non-racist Terreblanche kid, it is a congenital abnormality.

  • Does anyone know where i can get a copy of Thandeka or Back Again? VHS, cassette, CD or DVD.

  • I was in Mozambique in 1990 and was at a consert with her. She is one of the best and was standing up to the current system in SA showing that all are equal.

  • She was/ is a pioneer. She went against the norm and did what she loved. She sang from the heart, and this in turn set things in motion to be come the rainbow nation we are today. PJ and Johnny Clegg.. PIONEERS!

  • A true reflection of a woman who went against the norm and set the wheels in motion for a rainbow nation.. This song is a true classic.

  • The song was written by a man named George Van Dyk. He lives in Florida, USA, via South Africa

  • jabulani means "be happy"

  • OMG....she's a real rugmuncher

  • one of the greatest songs ever to come out of South Africa
