your sculpture is awesome! The various straight and circular elements and self-feeding design are brilliant. I'd love to try to build one myself at some point. Could you please tell me something about the materials you used?
Thank you for the nice words. All the materials are plain steel. The uprights are made of 3/8" square stock. The plate portions are 1/8" plate cut with a jigsaw and a cutoff wheel in an angle grinder. The track is all 1/8" rod as is some of the bracing and the crossties. The supports are 3/16" rod. The steel was purchased from Home Depot, a local metal shop, and an online supplier. The sprockets, chain, and motor are from an online surplus dealer. The chrome steel balls were also found online.
Caught your post on the yahoo list. Thanks for posting this. Looks great! The video is nice and long, and we get a good look at everything that's going on. I'm new to this as well, and seeing a first-time effort is very valuable. I appreciate that you made both distance and close-up shots here. I can really see what's going on with the whole thing. Congratulations!

Very nice job. That is pretty ambitious including a loop d loop on your first sculpture, but it works beautifully.

Thanks! Here are the suppliers I used:
Steel rods: Speedy Metals
Motor, Sprockets, Chain: Surplus Center
Chrome Steel Balls: Amazing Magnets
I tried to post links, but YouTube apparently doesn't like that, so just remove the spaces and add dot com to the ends.
