As they say, you can never "just" own one Icelandic horse. I did for almost 1,5 years and then got my second one. This is one addiction you just can't get rid of (and honestly, i dont think i would haha)!
They are so cool! I have never see one of these guys around my area, but would love to get the chance to ride one! I would look like a total freak (I'm 5'9") on those little guys, I'm almost too tall for my horse! But I just LOVE ponies so much!
lol they are considered horses even tho their height is so close to ponies. and they can carry quite a lot for their size. my friends has one named dolci and she is about the same height as you and still rides dolci for hours and dolci dosnt even sweat.
These terrific little guys are so docile and easy to ride once mounted. They are hard to catch and mount, though! Look how soundly the riders sit. I saved for five years to go ride them in Iceland, and it was a joy.
Ah, heck, I don't blame you. You gotta try it! Then, you'll see. They can be so docile, and can carry you through terrain that would rip you to shreds. They are hard to catch and mount, but the riding style is easy to learn. They are good mounts. I wish it upon you, to have a lovely experience riding one! Even the less good are more than satisfactory.
if i would ride one that is trained good then i would probably like it but i never rode one hat was goodly trained but its actually kinda cool i guess.
This could be. I regret it for you. Some of them are not good. But most are. Some of the problem is that the people cannot explain the different riding style. I rode several mediocre ones, then had a winner! I wish it on you!!!!!
Hey its that from equine affair? I saw a show like that there before in Ohio! it was amazing it gives me chills just thinking about it ha ha love the video!
My mom in Ohio, who was a riding teacher, turned me on to this breed, and I saved up for five years for a trip to try them out. Wow! What a ride! I am not even very capable, and I just love those little guys! You cannot believe the rough terrain they can and do carry you through. Champs!
Wonderful video of this magnificant breed. I had an Icelandic horse as a child and had soooooo much fun riding her. I now have a friend who has three of them. These horses are truly one of a kind.
what are you talking about? Many Icelandics tolt from nature. Some even don't trot unless told to. Granted... som Icelandics won't tolt unless trained heavily, but I very much doubt they brought those to the show.
the ponies are so cute in person. hard to see them fighting the bit so much. not such a natural gait when the rider has to pull so hard on the reins for them to do it.
I got to see them at the Equnie Affaire in Mass., and was fortunate to meet them up close and personal. I jump with my horse Louie, and we were in one of the clinics, and then we showed at the night show. Yea, its was fun. They had sparklers on their legs.
Wow that´s a great show! I realy like it! I my self have got an icelandic horse and I know many people who do not want to take them serious. It´s a pity! They should try to ride on an islandic pony it´s amazing to tölt. (that´s the gait they´re mainly walking in the video) and also the flying pace (the way some of them go out of the show, it´s very fast!) is great! It´s like the name already says - just like flying!
This had me laughing so hard because their legs looked like little pistons going round and round! It's really hard to take the icelandic horses seriously. Comical like a cartoon.

It is so sad that when a icelandic horse goes from iceland and to another country, the can never return.

I know, the importation ban is hard. I understand it, though, because it keeps Iceland's horses (and other livestock) infectious disease free!

also keeps the breed pure
