You know, for all those who thought that Big Boss was just some irredeemable, maniacal ex-war veteran, this cutscene gives us the first hint that he was not as bad as what we were initially led to believe. I mean, he could have easily left them to die during the NATO raid (especially the resistance members), but he didn't. He forgave them, and even risked his own life to try and save them. This scene also gave us the first hint at how America wasn't really that noble after Zero's rise to power.
