@medmai Apparently the audience was not sorry. I clocked a minute of applause at the symphony's conclusion before the youtube segment was cut off. The fact that Abbado's reading was selected for broadcast in Asia appears to indicate their lack of sorrow as well. Abbado was appointed to fill Karajan's position with the Berlin and remained there for over a decade. I don't think the Berliners were sorry: Several years after his departure they created a conducting chair in his honor.
Abbado really brings out the lyricism (singing quality) in Bruckner, and his quicker tempos make the form of each movement easier to understand.
