  • I have back problems that make holding the electric guitar in the classical position better. But the footstool messes with my back as well. The two feet planted on the ground, guitar raised is best. Solution; use strap, adjust it to level, play with both feet on the ground. Stand and it's in the same place. Works for me. No back pain so can't support you abolishing it. How about this: just don't use one if you don't like them? Pretty simple. ;-)

  • stupid video

  • Ive got a question,

when i play guitar with a strap, standing..i feel a strain on my wrist/arm, is that normal? or am I doing something wrong?

cause im practicing for live performance, but i always suck standing with a strap cus of that..any advice would bee awesomely appreciated.

  • maybe the strap is too low

  • If you're sitting down,it does'nt seem necessary. If you're standing, then yourleft hand has to fret and support your instrument.A combination of grab and fret.

  • but like, in a gig or something, you can't play without a strap, well not if you play rock music

  • i know that. i do use a strap when i stand up. i was just joking because this video is stupid as hell. of course you need guitar straps

  • i think straps are good if you people dont like sitting i always stand but when i try to sit ots totaly akward for me

  • Its preference, but you should learn to use the strap while sitting because it supports your back more. Not an upfront problem, but it could cause some back discomfort in years to come.

  • Personal preference. Some people need them standing AND siting (I personally find it very hard to play sitting without a strap) while others play better, sitting and without one. Personal preference, there is no one answer

  • lol i don't have one :(

but i tried using my friends, and it was weird.

thats all i have to say

  • !!! WE NEED STRAPS!!!!! haha funny think is, i can't seem to get mine on.

  • while sitting down its totally uneccesary...

and u kno if people wanna have it on while sitting down i say more power too em........

but we dont need some 30 year old freak telling us we need to wear a guitar strap, sit on a stool, and he told me to film from the right side of my face.

    wtf is that about???

    so he can stalk me??

    aghh hes such a freak.

  • Yes, I think that without them guitar is just sitting down, no fun, you can get them for like $20.00 (give or take a bit) and there just a basic necessity.

    NECESSARY

  • well... umm... if you want to play guitar whilst standing up then... umm... yes.

  • wow. your stupid. he was stating the obvious on purpose

  • yeah that guy had sent me bunch of messages telling me to wear a strap while sitting down and blah blah. it's quite annoying. also he told me to wear a vest in one of my videos. wtf? i agree with not wear straps while sitting down, but standing? thats a whole different story.

  • Wear a vest? Hahahaha

    I'm a little bit scared.

  • hey did you notice on that guys profile that all his favorites are girls playing guitar with a guitar straps! ummm he's a creep

  • haha look at yourselfs making discussions about guitar straps....thats what the dude want's us to do...when He sees this all he laughs out loud so annyone who want's to use it...just use it! And the others just don't..most importent is making music!

  • Well what about when you are playing an unusual shape like a flying V/King V while sitting down? Not necessary? NECESSARY

  • The only reason I sometimes use a strap when I'm sitting is because it's tied on to my guitar neck by the tuning keys and it gets in the way when it's hanging there and not actually on. But man, that guy is totally creeping me out. I may untie it soon.

  • YOu need a chain! instead!

  • Personally I like it because I like it to be secured because I'm very small.

I say that lunatic wraps a guitar strap around his weiner and reinacts "hatchet vs. genitals". (don't actually watch that btw, I cried)

  • no guitar straps when you're sitting

  • No strap!5 stars!

    Hugs, Maria Sarah!

  • Guitar straps are helpful when you're standing, but i'm not so sure if it's nessacary when you're sitting down... i think that'd be a little much sometimes. YEAH! NO GUITAR STRAPS xD

  • i need a classical guitar strap, those things dont seem to be so trust worthy

  • The friggin guitar strap is giving me a hard time. I purchased a new one - in suede. And the suede has like little pieces... so I soaked it in water (don't ask)... so of course I can't exchange it get my money back - ... so I bought a cheap nylon one - which slides off my shoulder - haha... so silly. Really. The guitar strap is good if you want to stand up and play... I still prop my foot up. Peace, ~Sharon :D

  • I'm sure someone has already mentioned but if u have a heavy guitar or a bass for me, then the wearing the strap while sitting down means u guitar will stay in place better so your hand on the neck is free to move about rather than holding the guitar in the right position

  • Welll, I use a strap while I'm sitting sometimes. It just depends...like my position, and how I'm holding the guitar (i.e. if i'm feeling lazy and not holding it correctly :P)

  • i cant see the video my coomp is lagging what does it show?

  • Some things are better left to your imagination. :)

  • this is just my opinion...

I think it would be efficient to wear a guitar strap even sitting down. it doesn't necessarily need to be "worn", just like off your shoulders. I think so because the more you take the strap on and off...the softer the leather gets, and the softer the leather, the more chance the strap has to fall off the guitar while you're playing standing up, because the hole is so flexible. ... =)

  • Not if you have a Steve Vai strap. Like the one I have. I always "swing my axe" with it and never ripped it or anything. Steve Vai ripped the entire straplock out once, but thats only once and he was too hard on it.

  • Very good points! All that taking on and off while sitting is just increasing your chances of putting an eye out. Why take unneccesary chances? :)

  • Or ripping my hair out. Which I have done before.

  • lol no no, he's still going! keeps leaving me messages in my inbox! scurry!

    Julia xx

  • Never fear, my dear! I could never leave you!!!xxx:)

  • no one's left a comment in a while, must mean that that dude with the guitar strap fedish has been banned from the internet. did you know that guy was popin up in myspace too. geez.

  • I noticed the same thing, I haven't seen him around that much lately! Looks like my work may be done here! haha...:)

  • i agree, on no strap. i had a fight about it with someone on my page if u go look lol

  • what the fuck is up with that guy?

  • Fetish?

  • Fetish?

  • Even if you wear a strap while sitting he still sends you messages saying he wants to see more videos of you playing with your strap on. You can't win with that dude.

  • Yes, It is incredible, I've seen him start telling the people that DO get a strap, what to wear, or to start fingerpicking. Thanks

  • only if your standing. or if you want that one "pro strap guy" to shut the fuck up!

  • Hi morganbutterfly.....you got alot of spunk....I like spunk! Thanks

  • nope, no need for one, sitting...

  • FanvanMel: You are a wise man....thanks for your input.

  • i dont think you really need a guitar strap sitting down. i mean sometimes the guitar slips or whatever but i play with and without them and theres no real difference. i dont think they should be abolished tho. its not that big of a deal.

  • JSAvilez: Thank you. I'll take your answer as a no. I will say this.....ever heard the saying..."evil thrives where good men do nothing"?:)

  • Guitar straps, do you think they're necessary? I would like your opinion please. If I get enough support I might start a movement to abolish all guitar straps, at least while your siiting down.

    Thank you
